  1. ok hehe yeah i know how to login to the router and change it to 1500...i'll do everything else and post the results here
  2. can't do that vanburen...it's too impractical to bring it all the way downstairs.
  3. i'm sorry to keep replying to my own thread heh...not trying to be egotistical here... here's a weird thing...when i use TCPOptimizer...it tells my MTU should be 1492: The largest possible non-fragmented packet is 1464 (1492 - 28 ICMP & IP headers). You can set your MTU to 1492 It tells my my latency is: Ping statistics for above hosts: Packets: Sent = 15, Received = 12, Lost = 3 (20% loss) Approximate round trip times (RTT) in milli-seconds: Minimum = 19ms, Maximum = 116ms, Average = 54ms So when I plug that into the RWIN calculator, it tells me 67500 is the best RWIN/BDP... Isn't that a slow RWIN? And why would it tell me to only do a 1492 MTU?
  4. very weird...starts off fast..and then gets incredibly slow
  5. this is my new broadbandreports test: http://ttester.broadbandreports.com/tweak/block:593a6d7?service=cable&speed=9999&os=winXP&via=normal
  6. ok... :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 3162 Kbps about 3.2 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB) Download Speed is:: 386 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server1) Test Time:: Wed Aug 3 04:16:46 EDT 2005 Bottom Line:: 56X faster than 56K 1MB download in 2.65 sec Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 49.32 % of your hosts average (optonline.net) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-ZOXPQJBM5 for some reason...bringing it to 1500 MTU doesn't work and makes it very very slow...but 1492 seems optimal. how could that be?
  7. Is there a way to find out what my DRTCP settings were before I did anything? Because neither the old settings nor the ones from what you gave me work now, and I undid cablenut...didn't do anything with the NIC. The 'old ones' are just what i wrote down the first time i ran DRTCP :(
  8. yeah...i've been restarting but not powercycling.... weirdest thing...it will start off fast but then get slow when i turn my computer on....but i'm playing around with it
  9. well using your settings of the time it went very fast...the only difference being MTU is 1494...it's now just as fast again. is tcp receive the same as RWIN?
  10. so it just seems to me...the cablenut tweaks work well when the MTU is 1494...but not when it's at 1500?
  11. ok...what i did was change the MTU back to 1494....and now it's very fast again: :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 3070 Kbps about 3.1 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB) Download Speed is:: 375 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server2) Test Time:: Wed Aug 3 02:58:14 EDT 2005 Bottom Line:: 55X faster than 56K 1MB download in 2.73 sec Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 47.86 % of your hosts average (optonline.net) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-9VR0JDNQ2 ????????? all i did was go back to the settings you had given me from the time it worked, except with these settings in DRTCP: tcp receive 64240 path mtu yes window scaling no blackhole detection default timestamping no max duplilcate ACKSs selective Acks Yes TTL 64
  12. HELP HELP HELP i don't know what happened...it's now REALLY slow...I tried changing my RWIN in DRTCP and then I ran Cablenut with the optonline settings and now it's :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 166 Kbps about 0.2 Mbps (tested with 579 kB) Download Speed is:: 20 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server1) Test Time:: Wed Aug 3 02:44:47 EDT 2005 Bottom Line:: 3X faster than 56K 1MB download in 51.2 sec Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 2.59 % of your hosts average (optonline.net) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-2TVO9IYLN :( what should i do??? i tried to get back to how it was before but it's still slow
  13. ok i will do that, thanks again
  14. so using the calculator from this FAQ: http://www.broadbandreports.com/faq/tweaks/5.%20RWIN, maybe my RWIN should be
  15. btw not sure if this will help, but i pinged ucla.edu (i'm on the east coast, so i picked a west coast college) and i got this Ping statistics for 169.232.56.135: Packets: Sent = 42, Received = 41, Lost = 1 (2% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 117ms, Maximum = 140ms, Average = 120ms
  16. optonline says 10,000 Kbps this is the url: http://ttester.broadbandreports.com/tweak/block:1d5afda?service=cable&speed=9999&os=winXP&via=normal i had to set the advertised speed to 9999...and i just chose 'normal' cuz i didn't know what to put for connection thanks so much for all your and everyone's help btw...i very much appreciate it
  17. btw...http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/linksys.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=386&p_created=1084210366&p_sid=46jNr2Mh&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9MTAmcF9wcm9kcz0xLDAmcF9jYXRzPSZwX3B2PTEuMTsyLnUwJnBfY3Y9JnBfc2VhcmNoX3R5cGU9YW5zd2Vycy5zZWFyY2hfbmwmcF9zY2ZfbGFuZz0xJnBfcGFnZT0xJnBfc2VhcmNoX3RleHQ9bXR1&p_li=&p_topview=1 is the linksys guide which said the MTU thing dunno why...it's running better than it ever has w the settings you just gave me
  18. yes...do you want me to do another test on that RWIN thing? you said something about my RWIN is too low? should i keep going to try to get it better, or is this pretty much it?
  19. OH MY GOD! :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 2965 Kbps about 3 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB) Download Speed is:: 362 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server1) Test Time:: Wed Aug 3 01:41:45 EDT 2005 Bottom Line:: 53X faster than 56K 1MB download in 2.83 sec Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 46.2 % of your hosts average (optonline.net) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-KI735NAD0 how did it get so fast???????????? I just went up over 100 kB/s!!! :haha: :D
  20. ok thanks, i will do that while i'm in the router config, should i change anything else besides PPTP: Block WAN Request: Enable Multicast Pass Through: Enable IPSec Pass Through: Enable PPTP Pass Through: Enable Remote Management: Disable Remote Upgrade: Disable
  21. yeah...i did use DRTCP to undo the MTU change i made and now it's back to 1494. Do you think I should try that cablenut program? That was the only thing I didn't do in the list of things to try? If I was being capped...would I still be able to do speeds much better than I'm doing now?
  22. myriagon: Normal settings ? I don't know what you changed it to or back to. You should set router so it's not on pppoe and set the MTU to 1500 then power cycle PC/MODEM/ROUTER. Then see how it works. normal settings meaning, before using that program that swimmer showed me.
  23. myriagon...saw your reply in the other thread...i was under the impression i should keep it here cuz they moved my post to optonline, when it was originally in make me faster.... anyway: DanM. Per chance did you used to have DSL on that system? I have never setup OOL but I'm sure it is cable and it seems like your MSS: should be set to 1460 and your MTU should be set to 1500. Check your router and make sure it is "NOT" set to pppoe and set the MTU to 1500. The reason I asked if you had DSL is if you did, make sure that the program that ran it on your PC is completly uninstalled because it may be setting your MSS to 1454. Also I noticed on another post that you ran a tweak test at broadbandreports and your RWIN should be set way higher than it is. I hope this all makes sense to you the way I'm wording it. Let us know what you find out........ EDIT: Also if you change the router settings, make sure you power cycle everything. no i never had dsl. i am not sure if i'm on PPoE...i couldn't find that when i connected to my router. PPTP Pass through is enabled, if that means anything? basic rates is set to 1-2 Mbps...dunno what that is. i could look something up in my router config if that would help...but there was nothing in the router's config thing that said anything about PPoE
  24. well i should explain that a little...i changed the router and my computer to 1500 and i couldn't go anywhere online (most places timed out), except connect to the router.
  25. i had to set it back to normal settings in order to get the internet working again? it was extremely slow like that...any ideas why?
