  1. With AMD's ATI Radeon HD 4800-series graphics cards successfully cutting into the US$200-300 mainstream market forcing Nvidia to cut the price of its previous generation GeForce 9800 GTX down to US$199, sources at graphics card makers see AMD's discrete graphics card market share as having a chance to increase to 40% in the third quarter this year from around 30% at the beginning of 2008.

Since Nvidia's GeForce 9800 GTX does not provide advantages in power consumption or performance over the same priced Radeon HD 4850, graphics card makers are more optimistic over AMD's upcoming performance.

  2. Digitimes reported that Intel will soon be taking some quad-core Core 2 Extreme QX6850 and 6800 processors out of the market. Orders will be accepted until July.

Besides, production of quad-core Q9550 and Q9650 will be cancelled in Q1'2009. As for quad-core Yorkfield processors, Intel will keep them until, at least, the end of 2009.

Intel also changed plans regarding dual-core Atom 330 processors. Previously, the company planned to launch their mass production in July. But, according to the source, the deficit of single-core Atom 230 CPUs forced the company to postpone it to September.

EDIT: Adding more information for price cuts of intel processors pre-nehalem.

The word on the streets of Taipei is that Intel is planning what could very well be the pre-Nehalem price cuts on existing and upcoming Core 2-based products.  The current plan is to reduce prices in the third quarter and add a few more CPUs just to firm-up the low and mid-range.  This could very well be a sign that we can expect a very strong launch from Nehalem, but we

  3. Computers clean, guaranteed, I have a custom built system with windows xp professional reinstalled multiple times, this has been on the hard drive for at least 2 months, working flawless, I restart my modem almost daily. So I don't think that this could cause an issue, don't know though. I clean my system daily, AVG, CCleaner, SpyBot - Search and Destroy, Defragment at least every 2 weeks. I'm not sure but I believe that the system is clean to the best of my knowledge.

  4. Nearly three weeks after security vendor Symantec Corp. released a free tool to clean up PCs crippled by the Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) update, Microsoft Corp. issued a fix that should reestablish lost Internet and wireless connections.

Earlier this week, Microsoft posted a hot fix for a problem users first reported in mid-May. Users of Symantec's consumer security software said that after updating their PCs to XP SP3, a bug emptied Windows' Device Driver and deleted network connections.

Although Symantec initially blamed Microsoft for the snafu, it later accepted some responsibility. In late May, Symantec acknowledged that Microsoft's updating process and a security feature in its own Norton-branded software combined to swamp the Windows registry with hundreds, sometimes thousands, of bogus and corrupted keys. That security feature, dubbed "SymProtect" by Symantec, was designed to protect the company's security software from attack by guarding against unauthorized changes to the registry.

Although Microsoft had previously declined to comment on the episode, the support document that accompanied the hot fix fingered Symantec's software. "This problem occurs when the Fixccs.exe process is called during the Windows XP SP3 installation," said Microsoft. "This process creates some intermediate registry subkeys, and it later deletes these subkeys. In some cases, some antivirus applications may not let the Fixccs.exe process delete these intermediate registry subkeys."

The hot fix replaces the Fixccs.exe file with an updated version, but it can only be applied if the user has booted into Windows' Safe Mode, according to the support document.

Symantec has contended that other security software with registry-change monitoring defenses also caused similar problems for users updating to Windows XP SP3, but there have been few reports logged to Microsoft's support forums. Microsoft, however, intimated that Symantec might not be alone when it used the generic, and plural, "some antivirus applications" in its explanatory document.

Users can download the hot fix from the Microsoft site.

Microsoft has not yet begun serving up Windows XP SP3 via Windows Update's Automatic Updates feature, and conceivably could prevent machines that have specific security programs installed from receiving the update. It's already done exactly that by blocking other systems, notably those running AMD processors, from getting XP SP3 to sidestep an endless reboot bug.

  5. I don't use anything this happened in new york when I had Roadrunner 5/256; 10/512 & 15/1

And happened again down here with Charter Communications with their 5/512

I've yet to get close to 5/512 speeds, guess there's alot of Charter account in my area

Even in off hours I'm unable to archive my advertised speed.

  6. I've never really had the ability to test the results from using cablenut, reason being is that whenever I download large files I always get speed drop, as when I try without cablenut tweaks I get a consistent download rate, could someone please explain why when downloading 100mb files, or even testing on testmy.net I get short speed burst with major download rate drop. I'm talking from my max currently 590KB/s to the low 190KB/s then continuing through the download. This is the one downside to every time I try using cablenut.

  7. I've just recently 5 minutes ago decided to give HijackThis a try, but I'm completely lost on how to or even start to notice if I'm infected or if I'm running a clean system. I'll include my scan file, please help me understand what this scans for and how to remove any infections, thanks all. :wink2:

  8. Welcome to testmy.net dendrophilia. First try the basics this topic will go over those, and simplify them for you. http://www.testmy.net/t-2097. Now that we have the basics covered, where in the house is the wireless router located, and then where is your computer located? Older routers could interfere with cordless phones on a 2.4Ghz freq. So It's important to not put a router next to anything cordless I.E. a cordless phone. Next accessing your routers setup pages. By doing this you can change most of the settings that the router need to configure itself. Example: Wireless signal strength, if you are far away from you router try setting it at the max setting. Next after you've configured your router, try setting up a secure line between you and your router. Doing this ensures that you and only you are connected to the router. Usually requires you to make a 'security key'. Everything that I've discussed, should be within your manual for the router itself. Just go from the basics to the advanced, if you need help, that's what were here for. Welcome to the forum again. ;)!

Got rid of the other one for you  :)
