  2. Good luck. I have been looking for a test mirror with enough bandwidth to accurately test my connection. I am on a full DS3 with about 3Mb utilization, but I can't find any speed tests fast enough to test with.
  3. I need to get ca3le to update my local speed test to allow more then 60Mb, because we use it as a test from our central office to our end users, which always score over 60Mbit (GigE WAN to 100Mb switched network at the far end) Do local tests count? ROFL
  4. Well, you have to keep in mind that I am a network engineer for a large service provider, and the GigE to my house is because I am the provider for that as well.

  6. Speeds look pretty formidable... Are you on cable? What level service? As far as being a router, if you are using WinXP as the host system, simply goto the lan connection properties for the internet connection and turn on ICS (Internet Connection Sharing). This will do NAT translation for the other computers in the network. I personally suggest a cable router, since they tend to be more "Set and Forget" then the ICS. You should be able to pick up a Linksys or Dlink for around 50-70 bucks that does a great job (although at high speeds >1.5Mbit, the NAT is noticeably slower then not NATting) for the price, and the linksys ones have some firewall and virus protection. You can get fancy with them for a little more money and get like a linksys router setup for Vonage and do all your network IP translations as well as drop an analog phone port out connected to the Vonage network.
  7. In all my years, I have had the best luck with USR Sportster or Courier Externals, as well as (no kidding) Zoom External modems. Supra makes a pretty nice external also. All of them are slow to me since I have had T1 or better for the last 10 years.
  8. http://www.t1-t3-dsl-line.com/speedtest.php This place has enough speed to more accurately test my line. The results there are always in the 35-40Mbit range
  9. This DS3 is at my office, but I am GigE from my office to my house. Upload results were: :::.. Upload Stats ..::: Connection is:: 1811 Kbps about 1.8 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB) Upload Speed is:: 221 kB/s Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/ Test Time:: Fri Apr 15 11:13:13 CDT 2005 Bottom Line:: 32X faster than 56K 1MB upload in 4.63 sec Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 73.11 % of your hosts average (48.30) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-RHIYV4PGA But I think that my pipe isnt the limiting factor. Try going to www.smarttelco.com and clicking the smartspeed thing on the left. That will run the testmy mirrored from my servers.
  10. I can't seem to find a speedtest with enough bandwidth to test properly. 11Mbit is from the shaneAU mirror of testmy.net. I can't really go out and buy a second DS3 until I use some of this one.. It will be post-summer before I fill up this one.. Once we start pushing IP Video and SIP traffic, I will have a need for another one.
  11. Yeah, 45Mbit full duplex, it is a steal at $2,690.00. I'll post another speed test in the fall when I turn up my second DS3.
  12. Also to be noted, it was the fastest testmy mirror I could find. I have actually downloaded from some mirrors at about 35Mbit/s
  13. I pay 2690 from MCI/UUNet. Im in southern Alabama, but the DS3 comes across an OC3 Interconnect to the Bellsouth Pensacola CO.
  14. Finally got my DS3 with BGP turned up.. Here is the results... :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 11080 Kbps about 11.1 Mbps (tested with 20972 kB) Download Speed is:: 1353 kB/s Tested From:: http://matrixau.net Test Time:: Bottom Line:: 198X faster than 56K 1MB download in 0.76 sec Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 68.78 % of your hosts average (48.30) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-TZRNOKFIQ
  15. Ca3Le, Is there anyway the max speed can be 1) changed, 2) customized to provide an error message of my choosing. I have a custom test which you helped me work on which is to assist my customers in troubleshooting problems within the WAN, which always results in a message stating their connection is over the 60M limit. Also, I will soon have a 2nd load balanced DS3 installed, so it may be possible for customers to actually achieve such a connection speed. I'll hit you on MSN next time I see ya, since there was something else I needed fixed too. ChzDhippt
