  1. O.K, when you get the chance, try the wireless test again. If you suddenly are getting around 30mb/s, then I would think that Verizon may have corrected a problem on their end. Harvey
  2. Could you recap where the situation stands now? Specifically: 1. Are you using the Belkin pre-n router? 2. Are you getting 30/5 service when wired to the Belkin pre-n router? 3. What speeds are you getting wirelessly from the Belkin pre-n router and Belkin pre-n pc card? Harvey
  3. I assume that when they walked you thru the checkout you were using their router on a wired computer. It still seems possible that this is a problem on their end for either the 15/2 or 30/5 service. Please keep us posted on this and if there is a resolution. Thanks, Harvey
  4. One more thing. Try hooking back up to the wired Verizon supplied Dlink router and try the speed tests with your wired computer. If you get the correct speeds, then Verizon is supplying you with the correct service. If not, you may want to call Verizon to see if there is a problem on their end. Harvey
  5. Well, I guess I'm out of ideas for now. You might try posting in the Belkin Forum at dslreports.com. - there's a lot of people with experience with the Belkin pre-n stuff. Harvey
  6. From what I have read, the Pre-N routers have diminished speeds (apparently due to near-field effects) for wireless clients which are less then 10 feet away. Am I correct in assuming that you get good speeds for wired clients and that all your wireless clients are within 10 feet of the router? If so, is there any way for you to temporarily relocate the router so as to increase the distance and then retry the speed tests? Harvey
  7. Any chance that your laptop is located far enough away from the router so as to get reduced speeds (ie., <15 mb/s)? BTW, what pc card controller does your laptop use? I'm thinking of getting the pre-n setup, but there is an issue with the Belkin pre-n pc card and O2Micro pc card controllers. Harvey [EDIT} Other possibilities: 1. Zone Alarm 5.x and above are known to cause speed issues - if you use it, try uninstalling. 2. I use Avast as my AV software - there is an issue with the Standard Shield and IE. If you use Avast, try disabling it while you speed test. 3. Other AV products may cause an issue. Harvey
  8. Run the tests several times. I also sometimes get lower numbers like yours. Also try the the Charter site - it seems to be the only one that identifies the link as a 100mb/s instead of 10 mb/s link. If you can, send yourself a large file and monitor the upload and download speed with a utility such as NetPerSec. Also, try the speed test at the OOL site: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/ool, NetPerSec shows a download speed of around 15 -16 mb/s. Harvey
  9. I have never gotton good results from testmy. net, Speakeasy or the dslreports speed tests. However, I do get good results from the more "approved" high speed sites. Try the following sites: http://jlab4.jlab.org:7123/ (this site also lists other similar type sites on its page) http://speedtest.tx.charter.com/ The above sites consistently give me around 14.8-15.2/1.9-2.02 speeds (I also used cablenut to tweak my settings). I can also verify these speeds by monitoring the traffic with NetPerSec. These results are with the Dlink wired router replaced with a Belkin 7230-4 wireless g router. I get the same results from my wired desktop and my wireless laptop (using the Belkin 7010 wireless g card. Harvey
