You made a great choice, FF is the best browser out there. You've just joined the 91,117,246 others who have downloaded the fox so far. That's the official number from spreadfirefox.com 300 billion IE users, thats kinda pushin it isnt it, seeing as how theres only 6-7 billion people on earth.

I use McAffee Virus Scan along with windows firewall and have no probs. Norton is annoying and I uninstalled after my free trial ended.

I just got this a few days ago. Its good, but not as easy to use and fast as Firefox. The voice controlled browsing is fun to play with though.

I have read about using your gmail for on-line data storage before.
Do you mind posting a guide on setting that up, ZeroOne?
It's quite simple really, but first you have to install the gmail drive shell extension (it basically adds your gmail account as a 'drive' on your PC). You can get it here: http://www.viksoe.dk/code/gmail.htm
Once you get that, you will be able to right click on any file( 10MB or less) on your PC and send it to your gmail account. The files you send skip the inbox and automatically get archived.
For my music collection, I created a filter whereby all incoming files (in my case mp3s) get starred and are labeled 'music'. You can then label those files with the Artist or Album name as labels.
This is what I have under the 'Filters' tab of the gmail settings:
The following filters are applied to all incoming mail:
Matches: subject:GMAILFS--------> everything you send with your gmail drive has this as the sub.
Do this: Skip Inbox, Star it, Apply label "Music"

They limit attachment size to 10Mb. I'm using a gmail account for storage using the shell extension (ugh, but the version I have doesn't work anymore, guess Google changed something).
The above is what I'm doing...you need to download the latest version of gmail shell extension and it'll work fine.

How do you get a Gmail account? I've checked out Google's site, and it says they're only offering them on a limited basis.

No browser will ever be 100% safe, it will never happen because there will always be those who make it their mission to prove you wrong. Firefox's main strength is its popup blocker and active x limiting functions. IE's popup blocker is not that good, same goes for active x scripts. The true comparison will come once IE 7 faces off against FF 1.5.

I currently have one of my gmail accounts loaded up with my mp3 collection, so I can have access to it anywhere (I've lost hundreds of mp3s in the past due to crashes). I use the Gmail drive shell extension and can send stuff straight to my account. I have special filters/labels set up so my gmail account is basically like my own personal Itunes store...except its free
Does anyone here use their gmail for anything else other than mail?

I have the wired dlink router that verizon provides with fios, and my linksys wireless B router is plugged INTO the dlink. The above is my average speed, which was much higher when I had verizon dsl. When im hardwired, everything is perfect or better in terms of speed. Whats even stranger is that I have another wireless desktop downstairs (my routers are upstairs) that is getting great speeds from 3.5-4.5 Mbps! So Im thinking there might be something not configured right with my laptop.
My laptop specs:
Intel Pentium M 1.5 Ghz
Intel PROP/Wireless 2200 B/G (Centrino technology)
512 RAM
Please help, I currently have to run a 50 ft long ethernet cable from my router to my room because of this problem.

Try clearing your browser cache and the temp files.. if that doesnt work then try opening the page in a different browser.. some time little querks through browsers and servers in to panic mode.. and that sounds like this is happening to you..
Exactly, and if you're using Firefox, try using IE instead. If all else fails, GET GMAIL!!

I just got FiOS about 2 weeks ago (its awesome), but about 4-6 months before, Verizon was all up in my hood digging like mad...and then they were gone...then I got FiOS.

A lot of the alleged 'problems' people have with FF are due to their computers first, and improper install/upgrades second. The upgrading for firefox is amazingly simple now, you dont even half to uninstall the old version. FF is on pace to hit 100,000,000 downloads before the end of the year, so the 'IE-only' sites better realize that not everyone will be a slave to explorer. Also, there are plugins for FF that make it appear as IE 6.0 so you can use FF on the IE sites.
