  1. Also a single 8800GTX will run just about any games at highest settings on a 24" wide screen monitor, so SLI is pointless, unless you wanna get 2 8800GTX and impress all the ladies at lan parties

it wont run all the games at 1920x1080 with 16x antialiasing and 16x antiscopic filtering with max frames per second.. SLi is never pointless  :grin2:

  2. Diablo321: That is interesting. Are you talking about cable or DSL? In my area if you want high-speed cable the only provider is roadrunner (time warner, formerly adelphia).

Cable. Apparently, the only reason he got Earthlink was because they had a deal going on where it was 29.99/month for the first six months. Oh, and another thing thats strange. His hostname shows up as mindspring.com, which is weird because it appears hes on the same network as me...

  3. One problem with Raptors is that they dont have as much disk capacity as many people need. The raptor in my machine only has 74gigs of space, although they do have a 150gig version now.. Another good thing about RAID 0 is that it creates one partition across two separate drives, effectively doubling the capacity.

  4. only difference is that I haven't found a good antivirus program but I'll have one very soon.  :)

Cable, use avast antivirus. It is runs great on vista, and everytime i go look for a program crack(lol), i end up getting a popup warning saying it had detected a virus. It works great! I had AVG on XP before i upgraded, but it seems to have compatability issues, so i switched. If ur interested..

  5. Oh! What programs do you have running? If you are using something like limewire or any p2p software, they usually create popups. Therefore, testing with an antispyware won't do anything. I know I used to use a P2P program called Blubster, and every once in a while I would get popups. It didn't take me long to figure out that it was the cause of the problem, as every time i would go to download a song, i would get a popup. Anyways... list some of the programs you have running.

  7. When your connection is "capped", your internet provider limits your speed to control the amount of bandwidth you use at any given time. Usually, this is done by the firmware inside the modem. When he says "uncapped", he means to remove the cap and let you download at an unlimited speed. Afterwards, your speed will only be limited by the amount of bandwidth your internet provider has available.

If you don't know the term capped, then I highly doubt you have the ability to reprogram the firmware of the modem. Also, being able to uncap a cable/dsl modem is so complicated, that I have heard of very few people that have actually gotten it to work.

  8. Earthlink doesn't use their own servers. I think they must make a deal with the local ISP and rent the servers from them. For instance, my friend buys his internet from Earthlink. However, I live in the same area, and my provider is roadrunner. I'm not sure what his bill looks like, but our speed caps are exactly the same. Not to mention, when one has downtime, the other has it as well.

  9. You need to change the boot priority in the BIOS. Are you saying it just won't load the setup screen when you restart, or it simply doesnt read the disc altogether while in Windows? In any case, you need to tell the BIOS to look for an OS on the optical drive, BEFORE it reads the hard disk. In other words, put the devices in this order. Your floppy drive goes first (if you have one), your optical drive second, and your hard drive third, in the boot priority configuration. If you do not know how to do this, I can possibly walk you through it if you tell me what motherboard is in your system.

Edit: I didn't really understand your question at first, so let me ask you this. Are you trying to install windows while its loaded, or trying to do it when you reboot?

  10. Hmm.. I've never had a problem with AVG. I rarely come across viruses, and when I do, AVG would pick em up everytime. I use avast now, since avg appears to have some issues with vista. If nothing seems to work falco, backing up all your files and reformatting your drive will without a doubt get rid of that little beast thats causing you these problems... :knuppel2:
