  1. I just upgraded to this combo modem/router from sympatico couple days ago. The first problem im having is that there is no way to chnge the MTU, it's set at 1500 which is not what I want, 1492 is ideal for my setup. Heres the shitty part of the deal, Sympatico only supports the set-up and instalation, meaning they only care about getting you a connection. I called the company who makes the modem/router for support and they wanted to CHARGE me dollars for their help. BullShit, I should have kept my old set-up. If anybody knows how to change the MTU please let me know. Thanx
  2. Heres 2 download test speed, im still getting about the same speed??? Your connection is: 3218 Kbps (about 3.2 Mbps) You downloaded at: 393 KB/sec Your TRuSPEED
  3. I have a Linksys BERSF41, I looked in the settings under forwarding, all the protocols are set at both, its either TCP or UDP, or both. If Linksys had proper people working for them, instead of people in India who cant speak a word of english, this problem probably would have been fixed by now...
  4. Thanx for the quick reply swimmer. I do use a Linksys router and called Linksys for support, they had told me to try a setting in the triggering settings and enter port 25 to block, which didn't work. Im not sure what else I can do, just trying to make my pc as secure as possible. Thanx
  5. I did a port scan and the results showed that this port was opened, If I remembered correctly from before that this port had been closed. Is there a way to close this port or atleast have it not to respond to whatever is makeing it respond (if that makes sence)...Thanx...
  6. does anybody know how to calculate this setting. Thanx..... Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 65535 RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits Unscaled Receive Window = 65535 Note: Under Windows 9x, if you have RWIN set to any other value, and the Analyzer reports 65535 you might need to install the MS Vtcp386 fix For optimum performance, consider changing RWIN to a multiple of MSS. Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS: 511104 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 255552 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4) 127776 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2) 63888 (MSS x 44)
  7. Anti virus, spybot and temp files are checked and cleaned 1-2 times daily or when needed. I have played with my rwin and can show some of the settings if u want to see them. I have also played the the network and some other settings.

  10. My ISP is Sympatico, they tell me that I am on a 4mbps line...I have had everything checked and even had the phone jack replaced to a newer version. Im just kinda frustrated that im not getting the full 4bits. Im using a router and wondering if this may have something to do with my speed being a little slower. Thanx.....
  11. Im happy with the spped thats 4sure. But need faster, just like tuning my stang, it never ends.......It just happened that I put most of my knowledge in Ford and not IBM.......
  12. Hey Lorne, Well iv'e done just about everything possible to increase my speed, guess ill be happy at 3.5-3.7mbps. Im using a router and just wondering if there are any tweaks or settings that can be changed to increase the speed. Thanx......
  13. Hey Lorne, I looked in the MSTCP folder and noticed that the receive window was set at 255552, I changed it to 64240 as u reccomended. I did not see the MTU option in there? Where would I go to change the MTU and what would u reccomend changing it to. Thanx again......
  14. Hey Lorne, I did a TCP analyzer report, Do u mind checking it out and let me know if the settings are correct. MTU = 1492 MTU is optimized for PPoE DSL broadband. If not, consider raising MTU to 1500 for optimal throughput. MSS = 1452 MSS is optimized for PPPoE DSL broadband. If not, consider raising MTU to 1500 for maximum throughput. 17. Hey Lorne, well ive done everything from changing the rwin, mtu and lots more. I found these at a tweaking site. I may have accidently changed some settings in the networking properties, this I think may have something to do with my current speed. I just dont know what the default settings are. Thanx....
