1. I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium If it helps I'm in North Dakota and currently subscribing to Midcontinent Communications. Did a few more tests here today and am still receiving roughly the same stats. Another tracert I just did. The long hop seem to have abated. Tracing route to testmy.net [] over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 10 ms 8 ms 19 ms 2 28 ms 8 ms 12 ms host-13-24-220-24-static.midco.net [ ] 3 14 ms 10 ms 11 ms ubr1-beu.midco.net [] 4 29 ms 18 ms 18 ms host-1
2. Server in my city. Server in Dallas Server in Chicago Yet here I don't even come close. https://testmy.net/quickstats/xtingwish Accessing usenet through Astraweb I can achieve a sustained download speed of 5.9MB/s. Being as I'm actually downloading at fantastic speeds I know the problem isn't at my end. I'm thinking the hop that times out might have something to do with the diminished te
3. I'll look into that resopalrabotnick. Thank you guys for helping me figure this out, I really appreciate it.

5. My ISP doesn't host the news servers I connect to, I subscribe to www.usenetserver.com.
6. I haven't done any tweaking, I did download that XP SP2 Patch though. Going to run the TCPOptimizer from www.speedguide.net right now.
7. My download with Microsoft.com starts off at 2400+ kB/s and steadily declines to around 800kB/s and stays steady. Here is my log for the Tracert and Ping program... 8. I'm using Newsleecher to grab off of the newsgroups. I understand the terminology, I'm getting 20-25 Megabits per second, roughly 2200-3100 kiloBYTES per second.
9. I've tested at quite a few places but they all give me the same average speed of 6-9Mbps. Midco has two different packages, MidcoNet (Capped at 8Mbps) and MidcoNet Max (Uncapped Download), and I'd be willing to bet most Midco customers go for the standard MidcoNet package. Thanks for the welcome.
10. http://www.xtingwish.net/uploads/files/downloadspeed.JPG Why is it that I can get actual download speeds of 20-25Mbps but the speed test says I only get around 6-9Mbps? Could my ISP be limiting bandwidth on some ports but not others? :::..
