  1. Ok I'll start this off by saying I'm not sure if this will help everyone. Chances are it won't if your connection doesn't use your ethernet card or if your card doesn't support the option. Recently I formatted and then updated my drivers. I noticed my speed had TANKED badly on these tests. I was getting like 30-40% worse than "average for my host". I tried everything to fix it. Virus scans, adware/spyware scans, numerous optimization programs. And some of the steps I followed made a difference. But I never got above the average for my host. For awhile I gave up. And then I decided to screw around on my own. The fruits of that below: 1) Right click My Computer, select Properties 2) Goto the Hardware Tab, Click the Device Manager button (first from the top) 3) Go down to "Network Adapters" 4) Right click the Ethernet adapter you are using to connect with, then go to Properties 5) Goto the Advanced tab 6) There should be options here, leave most of them alone. Go down to "Optimize For" or "Optimize" (click the text) 7) If CPU is selected, change it to "Throughput" Restart your computer and power cycle the modem At any rate, that fixed my speed issues on Windows XP.

My download speed has been cut more than in half and the only recent changes I've made to my computer setup are a new video card and a new mousepad and I don't think it's the mousepad. I'm sure my system is stable, the CPU stands up to 12 hours of Prime95 and the video card stands up to 5 loops of 3Dmark06 professional. Asus PCprobe says my mobo temp is 40C which seems low enough. I felt the motherboard and the onboard ethernet and neither seemed even slightly warm. This doesn't make any sense. Literally pulling my hair out on this one. My setup is listed below edit: I'm also getting BSODs sometimes talking about IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and the 0xd error. I tried Microsoft's support site but found nothing helpfup, as usual.
