    My Results

  1. im still in the process of contacting my isp provider, im still wondering if you guys can answer if using a cable splitter would slow down my connection.

    also i ran a download test from this website and these are my results:

    :::.. Download Stats ..:::

    Connection is:: 2280 Kbps about 2.28 Mbps (tested with 1496 kB)

    Download Speed is:: 278 kB/s

    Tested From:: https://testmy.net  (Server 1)

    Test Time:: 2006/05/31 - 12:53pm

    Bottom Line:: 40X faster than 56K 1MB Download in 3.68 sec

    Tested from a 1496 kB file and took 5.375 seconds to complete

    Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; InfoPath.1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; .NET CLR 2.0.50727)

    Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 66.88 % of your hosts average (rogers.com)

    Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-0P8ALI3CH

    and my results from rogers hispeed test are:

    dslreports.com speed test result on 2006-05-31 15:56:56 EST:

    3335 / 282

    Your download speed : 3335 kbps or 416.9 KB/sec.

    That is 8.4% worse than an average user on rogers.com

    Your upload speed : 282 kbps or 35.3 KB/sec.

    That is 48.4% worse than an average user on rogers.com

    >the rogers speed test shows my speed as a lot faster then the other speed test which one is more accurate is there a reason for the discrepency?

    also my speed seems to fluctuate, during some days and some times of days my speeds seems a lot better than other times is this due to maybe more users at certain times than others?

  2. i contacted my isp provider and told them my problem they did tests and noticed that my entire area was experiencing high ping times. and supposedly they solved it. but i'm still getting some pretty crappy speeds, they said it may be my router or because my cable is split from my jack to my tv and computer. can routers and splitters slow down a connection?

    here's a trace route do you think it's gotten any better?

  4. i have yet to move my devices around my cable jack is fixed and i have limited space not giving me many options.

    However i just recently exhanged my old modem in for a new one wouldn't that rule out any possiblities of a hardware problems?

    i've just replaced my ethernet wire with a new one that came with my new modem.. no change :|

    ack i guess calling my provider is the only option i have left huh?:

  5. Downstream Value

    Frequency 615000000 Hz

    Signal To Noise Ratio 33.6 dB

    Power Level -9.9 dBmV

    Upstream Value

    Channel ID 3

    Frequency 32496000 Hz

    Power 36.0 dBmV

    i've taken the emi thing into consideration and separated my modem/computer/tv/router as far apart as i can and it didn't seem to do much i will try a few different setups though again and see what i can get.

    after powering down and powering up my devices.

    I haven't seen speeds like this in a long.. time

    just a little bit more and i'll actually be getting what i paid for!

    i think it may be my cablenut tweaks cause i honestly don't know what im donig with that.

    I have a motorola rogers modem, and a linksys Wrk54g wireless (but it's wired to my computer)

    im currently using WinXP_2K_CABLE_DSL/MTU 1500/Cable & Dsl 1500

    for my cablenut settings.

    let me know if you need me to perform any tests.

  9. i'm back.. unfortunately with the same problem!

    my connection speeds are disgusting, i've been in these forums before so i've done most of the basic things suggested by the sticky posts.

    i've scanned for viruses/spam/spyware

    downloaded cable nut and tried every setting with little to no change, i even tried the setting calculator which seemed to make it even worse.

    downloaded hijack this to get rid of any startup programs i didn't need

    downloaded sp2 for xp

    downloaded avast

    i've tried different routers

    i got a new modem, i even changed the position of my modem, router, tv and computer to reduce electrical interference

    i uninstalled unecessary protocols in my lan settings

    someone please help me :(

    OS: Windows Xp Home Edition

    ISP provider: Rogers (according to my bill it would seem my plan would be the express plan which advertises speeds of 5mpbs download and 384kbps upload) <- which is asstarded cause i've never once touched anywhere near those kinda speeds.

    Tweaks: cablenut but truthfully im not sure what i'm doing i just use the MTU 1500/cablexp settings which i believe is correct and it hasn't really helped my speeds.

    i've got all windows updates

    and i routinely cycle my router not because i want to but because it automatically disconnects from the internet periodically

    Someone halp me! :(

    Your advice and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

  10. that's for the advice troger but none of those things listed seem to be my problem.

    Fallow are the tests with the modem connected to my brothers computer just as bad?

    In regards to the EMI would having my tv off still cause interference?

    i've replaced the cable and it doesn't seem like it's made a difference:

    Yeap, my modem is leased so i'll go get a new one and hopefully that'll solve this annoying problem.

  11. sorry not sure what a NIC driver is? by reboot do you mean rebooting my computer?

    i've rearranged my modem and router around so that their both 2-4ft from my tv and 2-3ft away from eachother. but i've ran tests and it doesn't seem to really affect my speeds. i've posted download and trace tests with my new getup for you to see and i've also posted some pictures of where my stuff are placed let me know if you can see a better way for me to set up my modem and router.

    *cable jack is located to the left of my tv it runs behind the tv to reach my modem which sits of the floor between my tv and computer the modem then runs over by my computer tower and connects to my router which sits on the other side of my computer under my desk.

    i've finally got a chance to connect my modem directly to my brothers computer and here are the trace results: the connection was made with a 30ft wire just letting you guys know cause i'm not sure whether or not cable lengths affect speeds.

    this is a trace i did with a different enet cable, my browser speeds seemed slower.

    i got my modem diag page and my signals are:

    DOWNSTREAM

    Frequency: 615000000 Hz Locked

    Signal to Noise Ratio: 36 dB

    Power Level -5 dB

    UPSTREAM

    Channel ID: 3

    Frequency: 32496000 Hz Ranged

    Power Level: 35 dBmV

    my cable modem worked fine at my old house, i never had issues with it back then, however i did start to do more torrent downloads lately i've heard that could effect my speeds could that be the case?

    i'll hook up my brothers computer to the modem directly as soon as i get the chance. I also use static ips so I can port forward our torrent downloads. Does port forwarding or static ips affect speeds as opposed to obtaining my network values automatically?

    there's my trace results, and sorry but i'm not sure which cablenut settings to apply. Don't really know much about this stuff.

  15. I'm back yet again with another problem, the help I got last time for lag problems seemed to have fixed my problems but my internet is still sucking.. here's a recent test

    :::.. Download Stats ..:::

    Connection is:: 1027 Kbps about 1 Mbps (tested with 1496 kB)

    Download Speed is:: 125 kB/s

    Tested From:: https://testmy.net (server2)

    Test Time:: Wed Jan 18 17:15:38 EST 2006

    Bottom Line:: 18X faster than 56K 1MB download in 8.19 sec

    Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 34.74 % of your hosts average (rogers.com)

    Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-M3JR9GF8D

    I just subscribed to a regular rogers subscription so I'm not sure what my advertised speeds are but I'm pretty sure it's not this slow. On top of getting nasty speeds it also fluctuates violently from 1X faster than 56k around 88 Kbps to around 2200 Kbps as one of my best values but it usually stays around the lower ends.

    :::.. Upload Stats ..:::

    Connection is:: 272 Kbps about 0.3 Mbps (tested with 97 kB)

    but hooray...... my upload speeds seem to always be up to par.

    I'm not sure what to get that trace test thing so if you guys give me the link I'll post what I get.

    From the advice I got last time, I installed the xp sp2 and the fix, downloaded cablenut and am currently using VanBurens cable/winxp_2k/1500 mtu settings, i've downloaded and used ccleaner, i've downloaded and scanned my system with avast, i've used hijack this to close all nonsystem programs, i've tested my connection with DMZ turned on and off and there is little to no difference in speeds, i've got the lasted firmware for my router (using a wireless wrk54g linksys, but my computer is wired to the router).

    Help This Hobo! :(

  16. i found some firmware for my router i'm not quite sure yet if it's newer than the one i currently have. but the damn files in bin format, and i believe you virtually mount bins and then burn to use right? or just use it right off the virtual drive? but i can't seem to get it to work, burning doesn't work and i can't play it from my virtual drive using alcohol or daemon... anyone know how?

  17. oh doh.. ok i found the dmz option and it's disabled.. it's supposed to be disabled right? if it's supposed to be enabled what ip do i put in under DMZ Host IP Address? my computers?

    hm.. i'm not so sure about the router resetting but i'll push the button, cause i usually just unplug it.

  18. i posted in my first post, my router is a Linksys WRK54G wireless-g 2.4GHZ broadband router. I've reseted my router many times because sometimes i find that my internet seems to lock up and stop working every once in a while that forces me to reset the router to start it going again.

    i've posted links to some screens of the main tab of my router settings:

    http://www.geocities.com/crimson006/r.GIF

    my applications/gaming tab:

    http://www.geocities.com/crimson006/r2.GIF

    and my security tab:

    if you guys wanna see any of the other tabs let me know

  19. speed tests and gaming seem to be better when my modem is directly connected to my computer. I just did a speed test with my brothers computer though, he's hooked up through the routers wireless adapter... and voila..

    sigh... there's another test with my cable connected to my router... seems there's issues with my router.. : ive tried the cablenut tweaking and it had little to no effect. i'm not sure how to check my modem signal strengths but the cable throughtout my house works fine and all the leds a lighting correctly. i've checked my router settings and i can't find anything that resembles a DMZ option. i have an option called block wan requests.. and i turned that off is that DMZ?

    yes. i have a wireless router but my brothers computer is using the wireless usb device, mine is still using a direct connection to the router through an ethernet cable.
