The only useful info i got from em was that they were receiving a small number of calls that were like mine and if there was an outage it would take up to 2-3 hours for it to be fixed.
  2. Hey whats up guys, haven't been around here in a long time . Glad to see this place is still kicking. I recently moved into my new house and i upgraded to the RR turbo package 15/2. I was getting 13-14/2 pretty constant for the first couple of days. But now at certain times either early when i get home from work in the morning or late in the afternoon, my speed will drop to under 1mbit down.. but my upload stays at least 1.5mbits or higher. After about 10 min. of me restarting and checking the cables, the speed goes back up to normal. This is a test of after i had the problem... ::::::::::.. I was plugged into my router, but even after i hooked it up straight to the modem.. the problem persisted for about 5 min. before getting the speed back to normal. I was using a Comcast 15/2 tweak, but it didnt really do much to the speed. Im using my default values right now. Im of course virus/spyware free and all that good stuff. Anyone else experience this problem or have a cablenut tweak for the RR turbo package i could tryout. I'm gonna call brighthouse and see if perhaps work was being done in the area. Its just odd to have the speed spike that randomly and it be only the down speed. ~Thx EDIT: Heres a trace route to testmy.net 1 7 ms 5 ms 5 ms 10.210.96.1 2 8 ms 7 ms 8 ms 242.230.95.24.cfl.res.rr.com [24.95.230.242] 3 14 ms 9 ms 17 ms gig4-0-0.orldflaabv-rtr4.cfl.rr.com [24.95.228.1 93] 4 153 ms 159 ms 157 ms te-7-1.car2.Orlando1.Level3.net [4.79.118.41] 5 154 ms 253 ms 156 ms ae-2-9.bar2.Orlando1.Level3.net [4.69.133.70] 6 * 186 ms 197 ms ae-14-14.ebr1.Dallas1.Level3.net [4.69.137.154] 7 192 ms 199 ms 196 ms ae-61-61.csw1.Dallas1.Level3.net [4.69.136.122] 8 188 ms * 189 ms ae-14-69.car4.Dallas1.Level3.net [4.68.19.6] 9 188 ms * 189 ms THE-PLANET.car4.Dallas1.Level3.net [4.71.122.2] 10 153 ms 162 ms 190 ms te9-2.dsr02.dllstx3.theplanet.com [70.87.253.30] 11 175 ms 171 ms 177 ms 7a.fd.5746.static.theplanet.com [70.87.253.122] 12 165 ms 167 ms 162 ms po1.car06.dllstx6.theplanet.com [12.96.160.8] 13 161 ms 160 ms 163 ms a6.e2.364a.static.theplanet.com [74.54.226.166] Trace complete. 3. Sweet i wasnt sure if i can do that. I found the file in Win98_23.cab Hopefully in the future i wont have to visit these cab files.. but im sure i will lol
  4. Well, i let my brother go on the comp when i was sleeping and when i woke up all mayhem was going on. There was no internet connection, which i fixed by replugging in my coaxil to the wall several times, but the main problem is this. A required .DLL file, C:WINDOWSSYSTEMOLEAUT32.DLL, was not found. I get this whenever i try opening pretty much any program. My brother also said he tried to open the dll file with internet explorer. Not sure about XP but in win98 when you open a file that says "open with" it stays with that designated program. I tried looking for the DLL file under File types to see if i can change it but its not there. I really dont feel like reformatting which seems like my only option at the moment. I tried doing a search on it, but all that came up was having to put in a 98 cd and copying the file and my 98 cd is dmged so i cant do that. I dont think i ever saw this dll file, so i was wondering if its really part of the system or its from some sort of spyware that is making it need it. Anyone have any ideas that can help, would be much apprieciated ~HeLLFiRe EDIT: I kinda jumped the gun thinking this would be such a serious problem. But i always like coming here when i need computer help cause i know ill get quality answers. The way i fixed it was searching for the OLEAUT32.DLL. Deleting all 4 instances of it. Deleting the OL B folder from Common FilesSystem. I also deleted several other folders but i dont think they were related. Then i went to dll-files.com and downloaded oleaut32.dll from them and placed it in my C:windowssystem folder. *Note: i was not able to run Winzip so when downloaded a zipped dll file from that site, i was able to use Winrar. Hopefully if anyone else ever has this problem this will help them solve it.
  5. Down in Daytona, Florida its getting pretty hot -ClanBot-20- Weather for Daytona Beach, FL (32127): -ClanBot-20- Temperature: 87
  6. its actually pretty big case, not hte slim model with the sidways optical drives. Hopefully the fan will stay working for a while until i get a new computer, the cooling sytem they have in the optiplex is a joke. This is what it looks like without the big stupid green vent on the heatsink. The Fan is pushing air down towards the AGP slot, so if u have a video card all it does is push the air into it. The back of the vent is connected to the back panel where a rear fan should be but its not. It seems like a place where heat should escape but it doesnt. I wish my gpu was on the top of the card cause all that air would go on it and i can overclock better.
  7. i also pay 50$ and im on 7/512, getting average of 7/400-500 from port orange, Florida Your connection is: 7135 Kbps or 7.14 Mbps You Downloaded at: 871 kB/s You are running: 124 times faster than 56K and can Download 1 megabyte in 1.18 second(s) Member Ident: Username:FaT_PHiL CompID:6254713993501 Test Time:: 2006/04/17 - 12:57pm Test Browser and OS info: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.7.12) Gecko/20050915 Firefox/1.0.7 Test ID: 8HL3SGIOA (if this is a screenshot go to testmy.net to see if this is fake) Diagnosis ^info^: Awesome! 20% + : 55.75 % faster than the average for host (rr.com) This was tested from a 5983 kB file and took 6.87 seconds to complete Your connection is: 490 Kbps or 0.49 Mbps You Uploaded at: 60 kB/s You are running: 9 times faster than 56K and can Upload 1 megabyte in 17.07 second(s) Member Ident: Username:FaT_PHiL CompID:6254713993501 Test Time:: 2006/04/17 - 12:59pm Test Browser and OS info: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.7.12) Gecko/20050915 Firefox/1.0.7 Test ID: KJCWD3QF0 (if this is a screenshot go to testmy.net to see if this is fake) Diagnosis ^info^: Awesome! 20% + : 42.86 % faster than the average for host (rr.com) This was tested from a 748 kB file and took 12.4992 seconds to complete
  8. Its a Dell Optiplex GX150, The problem has been resolved though. Thx for the replies guys. I unplugged the fan power connector to the mobo and cleaned the dust out, and when i powered back on it worked. I then attatched a house fan to my rear to blow out any hot air or anything built up in the heatsink and its running fine now thank god. thx again guys
  9. everything seems to be working fine, my monitor sometimes bugs out if it gets unplugged from the video card while the computer is on. I opened the case and it has this duct system where the heatsink is on top of the cpu.. but inside of a green duct. Then on one side in the case it has a fan, i assume intake pushing air over the heatsink through the vent and our a rear back panel. The fan still doesnt turn on or push air, so im thinking that has to be the problem, because my heatsink was on fire lol.. very hot. I really need a new comp i think im just gonna beg my parents for one unless a new fan can fix this.
  10. im 18, will be 19 in july.
  11. Well i left my pc off overnight and on startup it still didnt detect the fan. The computer i have is a dell. It has this duct system that has a green vent over the heatsink and fan i think. I dont have a rear fan just the hsf under the green duct. Nothing is overclocked either. Last time this happened after i left it off overnight to cool down the system fan turned back on. I noticed that the computer was also restarting no on loads, sometimes just on pure idle or loading windows. If it restarts again im gonna see if i can take apart the duct and see whats up with the fan. EDIT: .. i just relized i been saying random restarts. Its actually random shutdowns lol.
  12. Ok i dont know how long i have until i randomly restart again. First my mouse went out so i restarted. Then when i rebooted the monitor wouldnt turn on. Then after i got it working again, after the windows loading screen, nothing would come up. I figured it would be a driver problem, so i used a spare monitor and rebooted into safe mode and did a driver update from the folder i have. Then i plugged the other monitor in and it all seemed to work fine... I was playing counter strike and then boom restarted. Then on the reboot following even before windows loaded, another. Several else followed. I dont know what could be attributing to it. I would first think of overheating and it has an auto shut down feature. The back rear plate does feel quite warm and i do run this beast 24/7. Also, on startup i get an error, that my system fan isnt on and i have to hit f1 to continue. After windows loads it seems to go on and off. This has happneed before but the issue resolved itself last time. If it restarts again im going to turn it off and leave it to cool down overnight. I really have bad luck with comps i hope nothign is damaged... although this can finally be my excuse to get a new comp.. Any ideas on what could be causing it. I dont think its video related as its restarted even before windows loads. I also heard a pop but i had my headset on so i dont know if it was from inside my case.. (hopefully not). =/
  13. ya i get called for trouble shooting 24/7, always answering simple questions.. And it always seems that whenever i have a problem, nobody else can help me. I guess im a geek although i dont look like one. I used to skateboard, i play guitar, workout and i like playing basketball and football. Im like a hybrid-geek lol. or cool geek as PeePs said. Whats funny is, back in high school., the so called stereotypical geek would never really know alot about computers. They would just be socially challenged, wear glass's and possibly look awkward. Not to mention habits of reading, really bad communication skills, and doing other things that although arent bad, just not socially acceptable in highschool. World cant run without geeks ^^ u people need us!
  14. Ya i have also seen the commercials. I dont believe they are the first ones to do this. I think i have seen a few other companys like this targetting a consumer with bad or no credit. My family purchased a dell from a rent to own place about 4 years ago. The terms werent that bad as we payed about 1100$ in total but they were very lenient on payments and provided a free upgrade after a few months. The only way scams like this and major retail companys overcharging for generic parts can stop is if the public is more educated. I would really like to see more online computer sites make commercials. Cause all the time i look at ads in the sunday paper and i see desktops but ur just paying for a lcd screen and peripherals .. the comp is usually garbage if its under 500$. Hopefully nobody actually follows through after learning the 13 week prepay before shipping clause .. cause thats insane. There whole commercial states .. if you have bad credit or no credit and want a good computer fast .. buy from them. In 13 weeks saving 25$ every 2 weeks would give u 325$. Add another 75$ and you can buy something decent from bestbuy or another place.
  15. Happy Easter to all, Is anyone going to color easter eggs.. im about to in 30 min! .. never too old to color a few with your family
