  1. Hi to all in the forum: These are the most recent results I've gotten after using "j79zlr's" cablenut tips & tweaks, :::.. testmy.net test results ..::: Download Connection is:: 14340 Kbps about 14.34 Mbps (tested with 12288 kB) Download Speed is:: 1750 kB/s Upload Connection is:: 453 Kbps about 0.5 Mbps (tested with 1496 kB) Upload Speed is:: 55 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net (Main) Test Time:: 2009/12/13 - 11:04pm D-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-UNRHAZCMV U-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-IXSTV8Q4A User Agent:: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.5) Gecko/20091102 Firefox/3.5.5 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729) [!] I am very happy with the DL speed , but if anyone can point in the direction to improving the UL, I would be much obliged! I used to get mid 700's on UL but can't come close with any custom settings. And when I use the Cablenut suggested settings for Cable, I lose my top DL speeds.
  2. Yeah mudmanc4, I think you're right. I shouldn't be complaining when both DL & UL is higher than average for RCN. I think I'll just shutup and be happy with what I've got. But that doesn't mean I'm going to stop "tweaking". I'll squeeze every last kbps out of this critter if it's the last thing I do! Thanks for the help.

  5. Sorry mudmanc4, I can't connect to http://ndt.anl.gov/, security settings in my browser is blocking it.
  6. Here's an update for all the RCN users out there. After using RCN's new beta speed test (http://pa.speedtest.rcn.net/newtest/) the results are much different from those here at testmy.net. According to RCN, my speeds are "Max Download Speed: 6.97Mbps (or 55760 kbps)" and "Max Upload Speed: 1.38Mbps (or 11040 kbps)". Now, can someone please explain the discrepancy in these two location speed tests? They were only taken 5 min. apart.
  7. Hi group! Can't believe it's been 3 years since I've last posted in here. As I seem to remember my last post, I was complaining that my speeds from RCN were not up to specs and had given up on any success to achieve the advertised results. Well, after numerous attempts with other sources. I went back to Cablenut after finding out that there were new updates available. After getting the correct info from RCN about caps and a few attempts with j79zlr's tweak tool, I have achieved the following results... :::.. testmy.net test results ..::: Download Connection is:: 14140 Kbps about 14.14 Mbps (tested with 12288 kB) Download Speed is:: 1726 kB/s Upload Connection is:: 393 Kbps about 0.4 Mbps (tested with 1496 kB) Upload Speed is:: 48 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net (Main) Test Time:: 2009/09/26 - 3:51pm D-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-056HDAP4L U-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-4HYGE6IMA User Agent:: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.3) Gecko/20090824 Firefox/3.5.3 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729) [!] As you can imagine, I am happy with DL speeds in this range since my last post. It isn't an awesome speed, but, it is acceptable. However, the UL speed is still ridiculously slow. I am still trying to figure out why it is so poor. If anyone has any other suggestions to my issue please respond. All I can tell you is that RCN's UL ratelimit cap claims to be 800000. I have tried everything I know to increase my upload speed without success. Any input is welcomed.

    My RCN Speed

If anyone is still following this post and are interested in a test done at Speedtest.net, here's the link to the results... This test was done to a server in Chesterbrook, PA approximately 50 miles from my location. I think I'm just going to be satisfied with the settings for now!

Ok, just out of curiousity, I used Speed Guide Optimizer to find my accurate latency, then made a new custom ccs file, applied it and got these results... My RCN Speed

Well, after numerous attempts to tweak my custom cablenut ccs file, I guess I'm just going to have to be satisfied with the latest results... :::.. testmy.net test results ..::: Download Connection is:: 7789 Kbps about 7.79 Mbps (tested with 12160 kB) Download Speed is:: 951 kB/s Upload Connection is:: 484 Kbps about 0.5 Mbps (tested with 1013 kB) Upload Speed is:: 59 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net (Server 1) Test Time:: 2007/03/23 - 9:41pm D-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-7YLNUS8HJ U-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-W1HLROGFX User Agent:: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.3) Gecko/20070309 Firefox/2.0.0.3 [!] Although this actually is slower on the D/L side than previous tweaks, I've reached a happy medium, and I'll just have to go with it. I know RCN can be faster up & down, but I can't tweak anymore, it's driving me CrAzY! Unless Eagle would like to share his secret to those profound numbers, that is? How 'bout posting your Cablenut file for us RCN users and let us see what you did to achieve those AWESOME stats!? BTW, RCN is located in NE USA, between the states of Massachusetts and Virginia, although I am in NE PA.~ The Minstrel
  11. I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion to increase my D/L speed. I used the Cablenut recent upgrade OOL 10000/1000.ccs file but manually tweaked the GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize & TcpWindow Size to 10278480. This gave me a happy medium between D/L-U/L and the highest U/L I have ever achieved so far for RCN 100Mbps Cable Broadband. But, I would really like to see a better D/L than 5361. Any suggestions without losing the current U/L speed would be MUCH appreciated! 12. Hi again everyone... After three days of experimental tweaking with various programs, (using all Cablenut ccs files I could find, tried the SG TCP Net Optimizer, TuneUp Utilities Internet programs, Broadband Wizard, etc) I just wanted to share my highest stats with you other RCN users. But b4 that, congrats to JunkieXL; those are some AWESOME numbers, similar to what I was getting when the Mach10 was first implemented. Sure wish I could get it tweaked that high again! So Van, if you or any others have any suggestions (RCN users especially welcomed) to give me a boost, I would sure appreciate it! ......This is my final post on this topic.... I'm through tweaking! My RCN Speed

Well, after lurking around here for a few weeks, I finally decided I had to join the ranks! But this problem should really be directed to Van. I've tried just about every tweak advertised in here, Net Optimizer, CableNut, manual tweaks, all to no avail. This latest one posted here... ::..
