  1. Hi guys,

                  I posted here a couple of years ago and got some helpful responses. I got a new internet connection, so I thought of posting here again. The PC is new. I just installed windows, haven't tweaked anything. Just wanted to see if I can increase my download speeds. Please note that I am from India, and broadband speeds are not real fast

    OS: Windows XP Pro - SP2 Fresh installed just a couple of hours ago

    ISP: 7star in Mumbai. Advertised speed is 256 kbps

    No tweaks installed

    DSL Reports Test: http://www.dslreports.com/tweakr/block:3b8d8e6?service=cable&speed=256&os=winXP&via=winXPpppoe

    testmy.net results:

    :::.. testmy.net test results ..:::

    Download Connection is:: 313 Kbps about 0.31 Mbps (tested with 386 kB)

    Download Speed is:: 38 kB/s

    Upload Connection is:: 294 Kbps about 0.3 Mbps (tested with 579 kB)

    Upload Speed is:: 36 kB/s

    User Agent:: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.1; InfoPath.1) [!]

    Plz tell me if I am missing any info. I am getting 28-31 KBps download speeds. As I said before, just want to see if I can increase my download speeds through some tweaks

  2. here is the tcp/ip test after using the optimizer....

    TCP options string = 020405b40103030201010402

    MTU = 1500

    MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

    MSS = 1460

    Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which equals MSS.

    Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 256960

    RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 2 bits (scale factor of 4)

    Unscaled Receive Window = 64240

    RWIN is a multiple of MSS

    Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:

    513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)

    128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)

    64240 (MSS x 44)

    bandwidth * delay product (Note this is not a speed test):

    Your RcvWindow limits you to: 10278.4 kbps (1284.8 KBytes/s) @ 200ms

    Your RcvWindow limits you to: 4111.36 kbps (513.92 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

    MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

    Time to live left = 53 hops

    TTL value is ok.

    Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

    Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

    IP type of service field (RFC1349) = 00000000 (0)

  3. Thanks for all your help Van

    btw, i just tried TCP/IP optimiser, set it at cable modem optimal settings

    here is the speed test

    when i start any downloads, the speeds sometimes are like 20 kbps but then they come down to the usual 3.5-5.5 kbps

  6. Its not dial up. As i said, i live india :D, faster speeds are not affordable by the common man  :(.

    Here is what you asked for

    TCP options string = 020405b401010402

    MTU = 1500

    MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

    MSS = 1460

    Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which equals MSS.

    Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 1460

    RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits

    Unscaled Receive Window = 1460

    RWIN is a multiple of MSS

    Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:

    513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)

    256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)

    128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)

    64240 (MSS x 44)

    bandwidth * delay product (Note this is not a speed test):

    Your RcvWindow limits you to: 58.4 kbps (7.3 KBytes/s) @ 200ms

    Your RcvWindow limits you to: 23.36 kbps (2.92 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

    Consider increasing your RWIN value to optimize TCP/IP for broadband.

    MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

    Time to live left = 117 hops

    TTL value is ok.

    Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

    Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

    IP type of service field (RFC1349) = 00000000 (0)

    Just hoping you guys can increase my download speeds

  7. Thanks Van,

    The download test that i posted before, would have been at my default settings itself as i had just clean installed xp (without trying any tweaks).

    I recently changed my ISP. Prevously i had the same advertised speeds of 40 kbps on a different ISP. i got 3 kbps dl speeds then too. But i had succesfully tweaked it to 8 kbps. The thing is i dont know what worked then ,as i had used loads of defferent tweaks and tweaking softwares.

    Pls just try and increase my download speeds

  8. Hi, I am from India

    Can you help me make my internet faster ? Here are the details...

    - Just formatted my hard disc and installed xp pro and updated to sp2

    -got the p2p fix u suggested in the sticky post

    -i have a 40 kbps connection. i get my internet through a cable wire that goes in my LAN card (Digi-5700 TX)

    -my download speeds fluctuate between 2.5 kbps to 5 kbps (they remain same throughout the day, even at late night)

    Here is my download test result..

  9. i am running Win XP PRO SP1. Sorry i cant get SP2 (tried all i cud to get it) .I would download it if i had a better download  speed :).

    My pc is virus, adware, spyware, malware free.

    One more question. I have Zone Alarm Pro. Should i get sygate personal firewall instead ? will it affect my download speeds ?

  10. i live in india, and fast connections are really costly here.

    i previously had a 40 kbps connection, which gave me download speeds of 3 - 3.5 kbps. i tried a tweaking software called Cyber tweak, and i consistently got 8 kbps downlaod speed .

    Now i have bought a 40 kbps connection again, from a different

  11. Van i need urgent help dude

    something screwed up. before i tried this site i used to get  8 kbps dl speeds. remember the tweaks u gave me ? using that my dl speeds went down to 3 kbps. now  i  did some stuff and got back my 8 kbps speeds, but now something is screwed up. i am getting 3 kbps only. I tried lots of stuff. even tried the tweak i used earlier , even went back to normal default windows settings , but still i am getting 3. pls pls pls At least help me get my orginal 8 kbps

    :cry:  :cry:  :cry:  :cry:

  12. Hey ,

            sorry  van i had to go out for a few days. something weird happened. i went back to my old settings and i was getting 8 Kbps again. i did the test with this and here are the results for it

    http://www.dslreports.com/quality/nil/1658935

    then i went back to the settings  u gave and instead of 3 Kbps which i was getting , i am getting 8 Kbps  with this one too

    here is the test with the settings u gave me

    http://www.dslreports.com/quality/nil/1658963

    Now what should i do ? can u improve my speeds ?
