  1. Well the MS Firewall is included in MS Windows XP, it just isn't turned on by default. With SP2 after you reboot, it forces you to make a decision as to if you want it to turn on or not...It recognized NIS 2004, and said it doesn't need to turn on...

To verify you have it right-click on mycomputer -> manage -> expand services and applications(if not already) -> click on Services -> and scroll all the way to the bottom to find "Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing(ICS)." For more information on enabling this feature prior to SP2 go to: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/learnmore/icf.mspx

As for finding my history etc...I'm not so sure, I've got my system rather locked down...though it doesn't really need to be...I don't have anything to hide...

  2. I had sp2 on my computer for like an hour and couldnt stand it... It is causing more problems then it is worth... try right clicking on an file out side of C: Every time I did it Explorer would crash...

Seems to pull up fine for me(tried on all 3 of my partitions/2 harddrives)...did you scan for spyware on your computer before installing the sp2?

  3. I'm not entirely familiar with networking, and can only go by my experience...so take this with a grain of salt...

Have you tried a modem with a regular RC45 connection? I used to use my USB adapter for my modem in to my Windows XP box so I could connect my only Ethernet port(at the time) to a router so I could connect it to my other computers. After a few weeks it seems to freeze my computer...once I switch back it goes fine...I know my RAM is bad, and returns various incorrect 1's, and 0's at times...and I think with all of the extra load through USB it caused it to freeze...so perhaps try it with a modem with a regular RC45?

  4. btw...I just downloaded/installed Windows XP SP2 without a hitch...in fact my computer booted up quicker, and my Windows feel more snappy...though that could be all in my head :)

for the manual download(for IT professionals for use on multiple computers, but can be used on one computer) go to http://jcxp.co.uk/ and click through the links...the download is from Microsoft...and this version is 266MB(though with these new speeds, only took 8 minutes for me)...

If you want to wait about a week...MS will release a compressed version(66MB supposedly)...though I noticed after I downloaded it, it said it was extracting...so I don't know how they'll compress it any more...

  5. Before I got this email I was supposed to be getting 3mbps down and 275 up..I was actually getting 3.9 down and 378 up....

Got an email from Cox stating I am now supposed to get 4mbps down, and 512 up...

holy smokes....Not only am I getting 4mbps down...nor 5mbps...I'm NEARLY getting 6mbps...hot diggity diggity diggity dog...

Considering according to Cox.net here in Phoenix states I should get 3Mbps down and 256kbps up:

    I'm content :D

Though at my work I think I'm capping the server...I haven't found two places that offer around the same speed...it's 15+Mbit(University of Phoenix) down on this site...though if I go to optonline it maxes out at around 7Mbit
