  1. I am looking into purchasing a Logitech Harmony 670 remote and I was wondering if anyone else has had any experience with it. Does it work well with Tivo and is it easy to access your recorded programs? I have all of my components plugged up to my audio receiver, does it work well with that kind of setup? I would very much appreciate your responses.

    Thanks!!!

  2. Tommie,

By clearing the cache, I go to tools, internet options, delte, delete all, I check the box that says also delete files and settings stored by addons, and then I click yes. As for rain, I wish it had been raining, but as it is, we are in the middle of a drought. As for restarting the modem, usually I do that every 4 to 6 days, last time being yesterday.

  3. I have a problem with Hughesnet that I have never seen before. The problem started about a week and a half ago. The problem that I am having is that webpages will randomly not display when I try to go to them. Internet explorer says cannot display the webpage. The only way I can view a page that is not displaying is to clear my cache and then refresh the page and it loads normally. This happens on both secure and nonsecure sites randomly at any given time of the day. I am on AMC9 with the small office plan. Has anyone else had this issue or know what is going on? Your responses will be much appreciated.

    Thanks!

  4. Well Tommie, I fulfilled my contract in February of this year, but unfortunately I have to stick with Hughes because its either that or dial up. Sprint and Verizon don't cover my area; Cingular does but I am not in their Edge network coverage area so the most I can get out of their network is 140k down. On dial-up I can usually get between 5-10k down and the only other option is Wildblue. I have tried everything in the forum that you posted and I will post a speed test. Now keep in mind that I am testing the speed at 12:05 a.m. It gets worse during the day.

  5. Well, I called Hughes today and told them what kind of problems I was having and they looked at my speed tests and said everything looked normal. I told them that there tests were not accurate and it looked like they just overloaded their gateways again. Then they told me something that I just had to laugh at, they said they never overload any of there equipment and that as long as I could connect to the internet I was in good shape because speeds are not guaranteed. Well I guess thats what kind of service you get for paying $100 a month. Maybe I will win the lottery and buy my own satellite. Thanks for nothing Hughes!!!

  6. Thanks for the post genovesea. Personally, I am starting to think that Hughes just overloaded the transponders on AMC9. According to the installers, Hughes assigns a new default satellite every month to the installers and that is where they put the new customers for that month. This is provided the individual customer can be pointed to that satellite. But, I may be wrong; I will call the NOC tomorrow and chew them out, maybe they can tell me something. If anyone else has any thoughts on what the problem may be, please post.

  7. Tommie, I have restarted my modem, force ranged it, and cleared my cache. I did not touch the cables to my fingers because it is grounded 3 times, so there is very little chance of stattic electricity. Ghostmaster, I am on AMC9 990MHz. I think that is the transponder, if it is not let me know. Please reply back with yuor thoughts as to what is going on.

    Thanks,

  8. Over the past couple of days, I have noticed a huge speed decrease during the daytime hours. I ran a speed test on the Hughesnet site and it said I was getting 1201 kbps down and 276 up. I then ran another test on testmy.net and it said my speeds were 184 kbps down and 270 up. How can the two tests be so different? When I go to download a file off of the internet, I can only download at about 35 KB/sec which reflects the speed I was getting off of testmy.net. I called Hughes and they said the tests on their site looked fine, so there was nothing that they could do. But, the test are apparently not accurate on their site, so, what should I do? Has anyone else been having problems lately? I am on AMC9 with a Small Office plan. Your responses will be appreciated.

    Thanks,

  9. Swimmer, I'm glad you like Dell, personally you could'nt pay me to use a Dell. I also just got a new laptop, HP Pavilion DV9500t. I got 17" Ultra Brightview widescreen, dual 160GB HDDs (320GB total) 4 gigs of RAM, HD DVD Player with standard DVD recorder, Vista Ultimate 64-bit, Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 processor (2.2 GHz),  Intel Pro Wireless 4965 AGN with Bluetooth wireless card, built in dual microphoones, built in webcam, built in fingerprint scanner, 512Mb NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS video card. I love that PC!

  10. Under the system control center and under reception info, you can find the current modcod. My question is, is there any way you can change the current modcod? I noticed the other day that it was at 8-psk 9/10 and my internet was flying, now its at 8-psk 5/6 and the internet is going slow.

    Thanks for your time,

    rjventre

  11. Another good alternative to a USB jump drive is if you have a laptop with a memory card reader built in. I use a SanDisk Extreme IV 2GB SD card and I just leave it in my laptop's card reader all of the time. The card sticks out less than an eighth of an inch, so its barely noticeable. It also does wonders for my performance, I already have 2 gigs of RAM, but I definitely notice the difference when I put the card in my PC.

  12. I have noticed within the past week or so my signal strength has increased from 84 to 87. My signal strength would never get higher than 84 prior to this. I have also noticed my transmission failures have gone up from about 200 failed:300,000 successful to about 3,500 failed:200,000 successful. Does anyone know why my signal strength would have gone up all of a sudden and my transmission failures increase?

    Thanks,

  13. I am considering purchasing Microsoft Streets & Trips 2007 with the GPS Locater, and I have a question. Is the GPS receiver wireless as Microsoft claims and if so, what type of batteries does it use? I ask because I have read a couple of reviews on the product that says it is not wireless. I called Microsoft and they said it was like a wireless mouse, with the receiver plugging into the usb port and the GPS wirelessly connected to it. If anyone knows if it is wireless, please let me know.

    Thanks,

  14. Last night (April 2, 2007) I noticed my browsing was very slow. So, I ran a HughesNet speed test and it said my speed was 1273kbps down and 278 up, but my browsing was still very slow. So, I ran a test on testmy.net and it gave me a download speed of 131kbps down and 275kbps up. That speed test reflected what my browsing was like. Today I am still having the same problem. Does anyone have any clue why the two tests could be so different and why my browsing got very slow all of a sudden. I have a .98m dish with a 2 watt buck that is about two months old, an HN700s modem, I'm on AMC9 and I am on the Small Office Plan. I have had HughesNet for about 18 months now but I just recently upgraded to a bigger dish. If anyone has any clue as to what is going, please let me know. Thanks!

As far as my signal strength, I am not worried because Tuesday I will get a new dish and have a repoit to another satellite done. I think I have actually set a record with hughes. They are paying for the Small Office plan indefinitely and they are paying for a .98m dish and to have someone come out and install it. I think they just got tired of me calling them so they finally just gave in. Anyway, thanks for the help granpa.

  18. On February 27, I have an installer coming to my house to put in a .98m dish and to re-point me to a new satellite. He recommended going to either AMC9 or SatMex6. So, my question is, Is anyone on either of these satellites? I am wondering how the speeds are during peak hours on these birds. Also if anyone knows of any other good birds, please let me know. Your responses will be much appreciated. Thanks!
