  1. Ghostmaster, thanks for the reply. This might sound like a dumb question, but what is RSL? As far as the problems that I am having; well, what can I say. I have had every problem under the sun. My case has been open with Hughes since Jan. 12, 2007. My rate code changes every few seconds, my upload won't get above 50kbps during the day(even worse at night), my download won't get above 750kbps, also during the day. Whatever happened, happened within an hour or so, because before I started having these problems, my speeds were always above the advertised speeds (1.5mbps down and 300kbps up). Even at night the speeds were great, and now nothing but trouble all of a sudden. What do u think the problem is?

  2. I have been having a lot of problems with my HughesNet service lately, so much so that the Tier 4 tech Support is considering sending an installer out to replace my dish with a .98m. I currently am on the Small Office plan with an HN7000s modem and a .74m oval DirecWay dish with a 2 watt buck. So, my question is what advantages will I gain with the .98m dish, considering I already have a 2 watt buck on my .74m? Also if anyone has a pic of what the .98m dishes look like, please post the pic or the link. Thanks!

  3. Thanks for the help Swimmer. This might sound like a dumb question, but is there any way to fix the problem if someone forgot to add the code to update the signal strength? Also, I posted this same question on the Vista news groups site, and a got a couple of replies. One person said that he is having the same problem and another person said that when he first installed Vista he was having this problem, but now it works fine. What are your thoughts on this? Thanks again for the help!

  4. Ever since I installed Vista on my computer, I have been having trouble with the wireless icon. The singnal strength that displays when you hover the mouse over the icon in the tray, always stays at 3 bars. The signal remains the same no matter where I go in my home. I have a Linksys WRT300N router and an internal wireless card on my HP DV9000T laptop. If anyone knows what is going on, please let me know. Thanks!

  5. Windows Vista will consist of 5 versions: Vista Home Basic, Vista Home Premium, Vista Business, Vista Enterprise, and Vista Ultimate. There is also a Vista Starter edition, but that will not be available in the US. Vista will be available in 64-bit for all versions except Home Basic which will only be available as 32-bit. You will of coarse need a 64-bit processor to run a 64-bit version of Vista. The release date will be at midnight on Jan. 30. If you pre-ordered it from the Microsoft website, they will ship it overnight to you tommorrow, Jan. 29. I have been using Vista RC2 (Release Candidate 2) for a while now and I have had little to no problems with it. As far as programs go, basically all of your programs will work with Vista. There are 2 Program Files folders on Vista 64-bit, one for 32-bit programs and one for any new 64-bit programs. I haven't had any problems with programs so far. Vista is fast, looks great and if you install it properly will run great. Remember, you will get the best performance out of Vista if you do a clean install. Hope this info helps. Sorry for the long post.

  6. Thanks for the replies, DLewis and Swimmer. I registered to attend a couple of days ago and only about 15 minutes after I registered, registration closed. I guess these events must be popular. Even after I registered, I wasn't sure if I was going to go or not, but I guess I will attend. If anyone else has any info on these launch events or on the software that they give away, PLEASE POST! Thanks!

  7. I recently learned of a Microsoft launch event in my area for Office 2007, and the Microsoft site says that if I register and attend I will receive a free copy of Office Professional 2007 at the event. So, my question is, does anyone know if this software is fully functional with a license to keep it for as long as I want, or is it just promotional software that will expire? If anyone has any info, please post. Thanks!

  8. I have two problems that I am having with HughesNet. First, let me tell you that I am on the Small Office plan, using an oval .74m Direcway Brand dish, and I use an HN7000s modem. My first problem is; when I type in a URL and click go, the browser (IE7) says waiting for whatever site I am going to for at least two minutes before it finally starts loading the page. For example, it will say "waiting for http://google.com/". It hangs up like this on a regular basis. My second problem started just this past weekend, my download speeds drop below 600K at night. I was used to this problem on the consumer plans, but when I switched to the business plans, I never had the problem. Normally the worst my speeds ever get is about 1400k and that is the absolute worst they ever get at the highest peak times. Now, my upload stays consistently at 270k or above, its just my download that started dropping all of a sudden this past weekend and it is still doing it. Sorry for the long post, but if anyone can help, please post. Thanks!

  9. Thank you all for your responses, they were much apreciated. I guess I will pre-order Vista from Microsoft and hope it come with both the 32 and 64-bit versions. If anyone else has any other thoughts or any other links to sites that might provide answers, please post. Thanks.

  10. Does anyone know if Vista Ultimate will contain both the 32 and 64-bit disks in one package? The reason I ask is because that is the way they did it in the Customer Preview Program and because none of the major retailers selling pre-orders for vista, including the microsoft website, specify which version they are selling (32-bit or 64-bit). I have contacted Microsoft several times and they give me a different answer every time I call, so now I don't know what to believe. If anyone has heard something, please let me know. Your responses will be much appreciated.

  11. Ryan314,

If you recall, I said in an earlier post that I was getting the exact same error message. Well, I contacted my computer manufacturer and they found the problem. It is a problem with the start up programs. Go to START then RUN and then type in MSCONFIG. Go to the start up tab and only check off the programs that are absolutely essential to running your computer; anti virus, spyware, network connection, ect.. This fixed the problem for me. Hope this helps.

  12. Ryan314,

I got the same exact error as you did. This error popped up earlier today out of nowhere and then it shut down my computer. My computer is an HP DV9000T and is only 2 weeks old. If you or anyone else finds out what the problem is or how to fix it, please post the solution. Thankyou

  13. Tommie,

the speeds I stated, the average speeds and the slowest speed, are what I get 24/7 365 days a year. As far as the price, the Small Office Plan is normally $99.99 a month. I, however, only pay $79.99 a month; this is what Hughes did to fix my problem (not being able to get over 1mb on the Pro Plus Plan). Hughes finally admitted that they marketed speeds before they could deliver them.

  14. Hi Sparticus013,

The speeds I typically get on the Small Office Plan are between 1300k-1600k down and between 225k-310k up. I have had the Small Office plan for a little over a month now and the slowest my download speeds have ever been is 1172k down and 199k up. If you are considering upgrading to this plan, DO IT, it is definitely worth it. Hope this helps.

  15. I have a quick question and then I will post my speed. What does the rate code on the advanced system control center page mean? Mine is 512k 4/5 (TC). Here are my speeds:

    ::::::::::.. testmy.net test results ..::::::::::

  16. I am running the small office plan on a .74m dish with a 2 watt BUC. I am getting the advertised speeds. So, my question is: what is the difference, performance wise, between the .74m dish and the .98m dish? Also, would my service be any better if I upgraded to the .98m dish? I would really appreciate your responses. Thank you.

  17. Okay Tommie, did what you said, cleaned out my temp files and did both upload and download tests with 2992 kB:

I have a small office plan, but I only have a .74m dish and I am only paying $60 a month. Got all this done after having a little chat with the VP of customer service for hughes. By the way, the only reason they want you to buy a bigger dish to upgrade to the small office or business plans is to make money.

  19. I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I love my upload speeds:

  20. This might sound like a dumb question, but oh well here it is: Is there any way to "uncap" hughesnet? I currently have an open case with the Hughesnet Executive Customer Care Center in Germantown, Maryland; the case is about the fact that I can never get over 1mbps on the pro plus plan. What I mean by "uncap" is, is there a way for hughes to let my account have as much bandwidth as the satellite will put out? If anyone has ever heard of this or something similar, please let me know. Your responses will be much appreciated. Thankyou.

  21. Like many of you with the HN7000s modem and the Pro Plus Plan, my speeds have never gotten to the advertised 1500Kbps download speed. Also, like many of you, I was very mad at the fact that Hughes cannot deliver what they advertise. So, after thinking about it for a while, I decided to do something about it. I did some investigating and found out that my installer, whom I know very well, has a brother that works at the NOC in Germantown, Maryland. I got my installer to contact his brother and his brother got him the direct number to the Vice President of Customer Services desk. My installer then gave the number to me and I called him and after fighting with his secretary for about 10 minutes, she finally transfered me to him. Mr. McClain (the VP) was very nice and he said he would do something to fix this problem and he would call me back on Monday to tell me what could be done. He said more than likely he would just have to put me on a business plan in the mean time until they can deliver the speeds, but I guess we will see what is done. Sorry this post is so long, but I just wanted to tell everyone that just maybe Hughes might start getting their act together and stop their false advertising. This is probably just wishful thinking, but you never know.
