  1. Who ran out to buy the PSP?  On the spur of the moment (I was paid the Thursday it came out), I bought it.  I have to say, it's sexy, sleek, and cool =D.  Course, when you have friends around you who think it's a waste of 308 bucks (with one game), it makes you think otherwise and return it.  However, I see many uses that I can use the PSP for other than games.  Opinions welcomed on handheld

    - yes, you can put videos on it.  Doesn't look bad

  2. Playstation Portable is due out this Thursday.  Are you getting it?  What's everyone's opinion as far as having a portable ps2 in your hand (I think it's based on ps2)?

    I think it's gonna give nintendo a run for its money, but for $249, it's a tad high and might take a while for the avg joe to put up that much money for a handheld.  Hell, for $249 bucks, i can outfit my car with a sub and new speakers.  If i see I see it in action, i MIGHT be tempted to get one, due to the fact it can play videos and whatnot, but we'll see what tricks it can do.

  3. Change the port from 6881 to any random 4-digit number in BT.  Some isp's have blocked certain ports because of the congestion BT causes on the internet.

    www.lvllord.de has a SP2 concurrent connection changer on his site.  Download EvID4226Patch.exe when his site is back up and change the concurrent connection to 50-100.  That'll help a bunch.  By default, windows is limited to 10 concurrent connection to slow the spread of worms and stuff.  However, it also limits the amt of connections you can make before it stops, hence crappy speeds on BT (can't connect to more than 10 people... and you're surfing the net).

  4. I remember my parent complaining when gas would go from .99 to 1.05... she said it was expensive... how times change.

    $1.97-1.99 in West Kentucky.  I heard $1.66 if you're a member of Sam's Club

  5. It's best to have it off because the anti-virus is a on-demand scan, meaning that whatever you open, download, read, write will be scanned for viruses.  Granted, this takes some time to process.  I always turn my anti virus off, especially during games because I have yet to download a virus because of a map download  :haha:.  Same thing for this website.  I want my readings to be accurate when downloading the 3mb test and not have the anti-virus slow the process because it wants to "protect" you

  6. Yep, what organ said.  You'll know everything is high quality because you built it  ;).  Large companies bulk buy "generic" parts to create a bigger profit margin.

    My specs:

    Motherboard: MSI K8T800 NEO-FSR

    Processor: AMD 64 2800+ @ 1800-1937

    Memory: 1024mb Corsair Valuselect

    Harddrives: 80GB Western Digital 8mb cache & 120GB Western Digital 8mb cache

    Video: BFG 6800GT OC 395/1090

    Sound: Creative Soundblaster 24bit

    Optical: Aopen 24x CD-Burner and Samsung 16x DVD+/- Burner

    Misc: 3 red LED (2 rear, one top), 1 Tri-LED (side), 2 Blue LED (front grill), Zalman Copper 102mm Heatsink, 17in Viewsonic monitor, Logitech 5.1 z640  speakers, free newegg.com inkpen.

    Guess how much all that was?  867 bucks over the course of 3-4 months.  I used scraps from the old comp till I replaced the components (sound blaster gamer 5.1, aopen cd burner)

    Now, tell me what your compaq, dell, or hp has inside it  :haha:

  7. be sure all connections (IDE cable, wires to motherboard) are correctly oriented,  The HDD is a big one especially if you have a cable that has no blockers.  Make sure everything is correctly inserted.  I'd go through and rebuild from scratch (taking everything out) and then putting it back together to make sure it's done correctly.  But yeah, the wires are a biggie that connect to the motherboard.

  8. know what's funny, about.com listed the top 27 bittorrent websites in an article  :D.  I won't say where to find it other than it was on the front page about 2 weeks ago.  The article listed some sites I never heard of previously, but so far they've been good.  I don't care for downloading movies, as I get a better experience going to them w/ friends in a 6.1 speaker setup (maybe more... better than at home).

    If you worry about downloading stuff, move to canada, they don't have laws against copyright stuff... yet  ;)

  9. that is the oposite.....

    hummm, is it the same file.  That might now be related to the firewall, that guy on IRC might have just had a few people drop off their downloads.

    nope, i tested it within 20 seconds of each other, and i've done this twice in two nights. Not only that, but I've also closed the firewall while the download is running and the speeds drop, whereas when I enable it, the speeds increase.  Same file from same person as well.  He's on an EDU (as with most bots in the channel)

  10. I recently installed Sygate firewall when I read Vanburen's sticky (no real reason, i just followed it).  Anyways, I've noticed something interesting when I have my firewall up.  For one, my speeds improve on testmy.net (4.1Mbps vs 4.0Mbps w/o firewall  :D).  Not only that, but so do my irc downloads.  However, I noticed that when i take down my firewall, the speeds drop down 50-100k of the peak, sometimes more.  I've tested this question two nights so far, and it's held up pretty solid.  Here are some images:

    Not complaining at all, just want an answer that'll clear up the confusion  :evil1:

  11. Could sue him for fraud =P.  Though it could possibly fail.

    Ah crap, the feds are at my door, they found pirated windows, adobe photoshop, premiere, norton 2004, and all loads of stuff.  Oh my.  Please, donate to my legal funds via paypal so I can fight off these feds!

  12. +1 to tweaking.

    I was showing off my 4Mbps download in an irc channel (which I'm op of =)) and a person asked what service I had.  I said Comcast and that I had a 4000/384 cap.  When I gave him giganew's speed test as well as testmy.net's test, he only hit 1.5Mbps on both (and the giganews one is very accurate).  So i had him use microsoft's antispyware to get rid of junk, then install cablenut.  After i gave him the 3000/128 ccs file (I didn't know his speed), he restarted and test against.  I believe he got 3400 or so (maybe more).  Now going from 1.5Mbps to 3.4Mbps is a huge difference (about what I hit when i used cablenut).  So tweaking is *RECOMMENDED* even if you're computer is ok.  It's almost like the equalizer of a stereo.  I've had someone tell me that if your speakers are good, you shouldn't have to adjust settings... HA.  Messing with the equalizer gives you an overall better sound if done correctly =P.

  13. :::.. Download Stats ..:::

    Connection is:: 4005 Kbps about 4 Mbps (tested with 2992 KB)

    Download Speed is:: 489 KB/s

    Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/

    Test Time:: Thu Feb 24 2005 23:06:13 GMT-0600 (Central Standard Time)

    Bottom Line:: 72X faster than 56K 1MB download in 2.09 sec

    Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 30.33 % faster than the average for host (comcast.net)

    Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/id-P0JFC4R38

    I've gone to 4200mbps =P.  4mbps isn't bad when you consider my sister's playing WoW and I'm downloading patches off FFXI =D.

  14. I can say from personal experience that tweaking DOES help.  Before/after comcast upgraded, i was only hitting about 1.5-2mbps.  When i used drtcp, that helped my connection speed up.  Then i used cablenut and noticed a good result in performance.  Almost no system will automatically tweak to your connection's setting for optimal results.  Hell, reduce the rwin and you'll get slower speeds.

    Another tweak story would be my computer =P.  Using "stock" is a lot slower than customizing the entire system for EXACTLY what you have in your system.  Everything's stock, which can be viewed as the default settings that will work with ALL situations/computers, not a select few.
