  1. You could always use the Seattle mirror on this site to make yourself feel better about being a DWAY customer!! :::.. 2. Have you checked your XPOL values, forced ranging, etc... Since my initial problems with the 7000 right after I got it, I have no complaints, even in the evening. It took about 3-4 weeks before it got sorted out. My upload speeds are very consistent. Very rarely lower than the 180K range. I do have a higher level of failed transmissions with the 7000. I cleared my statistics this AM, then ran this test. :::.. 3. The whole WildBlue thing is getting old. Dway has its problems, and I give credit to WildBlue for shutting down new installations when they were out of capacity (allegedly), but the fact is that a hell of a lot of us don't have the option. WildBlue doesn't offer service where I live. I checked before I upgraded to the 7000 and they still don't. I had issues with the 7000 at first with evening speeds, but that is now gone. The moves are positive for us who are either happy at some level or have no choice (I am both). More capacity on e-mail and a decent portal are one step. Hopefully those steps will continue in the right direction. As for a committment to customer service, lets hope the following is a sign of good things to come: The original drop dead date for your old mail was 4-22-06. Wow. Three weeks away. Not enough time for most people. However, they got a slew of calls, and now it is pushed to August. Certainly more than reasonable to move your mail. Signs of things to come? Let's hope so.
  4. I was surprised to see no comments or posts about all the changes with the move from the Direcway brand to HughesNet. I have been playing with the stuff for a couple hours, doing all the e-mail changes, etc. Comments? So far, I think it is a move in the right direction. At least there is a decent portal instead of the crap they used to have. Webmail has A LOT of "file not found" errors where you have to refresh over and over. Other than that, I am fairly pleased. Don't even mind moving mail. I didn't use it much, and now I can have an excuse to get rid of some spam.

  14. While you are correct that those are the settings, the cached data is not on the modem, it is on a proxy server at the NOC or somewhere. It simply splits the traffic onto the other TCP port at the gateway, which is the modem. To the best of my knowledge, the only thing that is cached on the modem is DNS lookups. (which would, in fact, give the appearance of increased browsing speed too, because of the latency involved with the system)
  15. The DW7000 isn't actually acting as the proxy server. The proxy setting simply tells the browser to send HTTP traffic on port 87 once it gets to the gateway. This simply allows the computer to access cached information to give the impression of more speed. This is a common thing to use. My work uses one. HTTP traffic travels on port 80 if you don't have it enabled, and you get the pages directly, and if you have it enabled, the traffic comes on the specified port (in this case 87) from the caching proxy server, wherever that is. On our network at work, the proxy is on port 8080. Comes in VERY handy, particularly for downloads. If, for example, I download Firefox, the file is cached on the proxy server, then when the next person downloads it, the file simply comes from the proxy server on our network and saves the T. I actually believe if you run a speed test with and without the proxy enabled, you will see the same speed both times on Direcway. (within a reasonable amount)
