  1. I got stuck on campus an hour early, so I decided to run some more tests, I am getting around the same for the download, and this is the worse of the 2 upload tests that I was able to perform (batterys gunna die in like 3 minutes) :::.. Upload Stats ..::: Upload Connection is:: 1557 Kbps about 1.56 Mbps (tested with 5983 kB) Upload Speed is:: 190 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (Server 1) Test Time:: 2006/09/26 - 6:09am Bottom Line:: 27X faster than 56K 1MB Upload in 5.39 sec Tested from a 5983 kB file and took 31.47072 seconds to complete Upload Diagnosis:: 90% + Okay : running at 98.3 % of your hosts average (ccsu.edu) U-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-RHN91V0UO User Agent:: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.7) Gecko/20060909 Firefox/1.5.0.7 [!] the upload speed is godly , probably because no one uploads anything, just download, making the connection slower. 2. lol gotmilk thats what I meant, just didnt want to be redundant I ended up just getting a stuffy nose out of the whole ordeal, we were joking around on the bus on the way back to campus that all of the marching band music majors would be out sick on monday...
  3. well I'm sorry I'm poor and so is my school, lol. What do you expect for 3k a symester (costing me less for 4 years here living at home than 1 year somewhere else with room and board). Its the best speed I've ever gotten personally (was on dialup till a month ago and now on cheap dsl plan), and I dont have anything to compare it to as of yet, need to keep testing there to establish average. I wish I could test it without their pointless program to keep out crap (which it doesnt) and the unwanted visitors, but alas it cuts off my internet without. oh yeah, no need to be an A** and rain on my happy parade, I got rained on enough tonight at the football game, my band uniform was soaked through and it was freezing , hope I dont catch cold...(If you cant tell I'm not a very happy camper right now...)
  4. :::.. I should probably try some bittorents to see what kind of speeds I get. Off to class, l8r all
  5. Sorry guys for not updating my sig, somehow I got hooked into Maplestory and am on that constantly when I'm not doing school work. As of right now, I have 10766 pieces of junk, There would be more, but gmail groups responses to treads, so my space used goes up but not my message count. You are currently using 152 MB (6%) of your 2762 MB. I really need to go through and sort my messages, I have over 5000 that I havent put with their respective date lables, every day it piles up more and more, which makes me want to sort them less and less. XD Well, its about time for me to head to my Music Theory 1 class, L8r all!
  6. I'd sign, but it seems that water has already got her way, except for the order part...
  7. Thanks guys, I was too concerned to think of the obvious, I had tried regular properties and it wasn't there. I forgot that my graphics card has its own separate properties tab in the middle of the right-click desktop menu. As for the MapleStory thing, I just downloaded it last night, so I thought there may be a connection, but I was wrong, I'm still not used to their controls yet so I probably just hit the wrong button (I have a Fn key that enables alternate keys, probely just hit that with the wrong key, its right next to the main action button Ctrl)
  8. For some reason my screen has rotated 90 degrees so everything is on its side. I suspect this has to do with maplestory, because it happened after I started playing, and maplestory is the only thing that is right side up. Please help.(its very annoying).

  10. I just got a new wu, and now apparently f@h has gained the ability to travel back in time. It predicted I would finish the wu 10 minutes ago. I let it continue trying to travel back in time for about another 10 minutes, but then I got bored and restarted, now its returned to normal. Heres a screenshot if you dont believe me, I pasted my computers time under it to show the time it was taken, in comparisson to when it was supposed to finish.
  11. Well I reformatted the desktop, and lo and behold I didnt need their crap software installed on my system. Apparently the software innitially trains the modem to work (why doesnt it work when we get it...) so since it was already trained no software was needed. Training my dad not to use aol is a hassle though. He doesn't understand that hes already connected and doesnt need to sign on to aol. He is trying to use firefox to please me, but first he signs on to aol... The speeds are not as bad as I thought, my dad had told me he thought he got the 3/384 plan, but when I looked our info up on the AT&T website it said we were on the 1.5/384 plan. I'm getting speeds around 1350/340 (used correct cablenut settings to tweak) so its not that bad, the wires probably have something to do with it, or my distance from the hub or whatever its called (seeing as both max out at around 87%.) Now all I have to do is get my router (should be arriving within the hour, I should go check if UPS just left it on my doorstep like they did with the modem) and set up my network and all the security that goes with it.
  12. Look at the picture I attached. See the little blue "window" button next to the folders button ( above the adress bar) click that and choose a different option from the list (its open in my pic), the default that your talking about might be in there, or you might see a way you like better than the default
  13. isnt the phone line the dsl line? we have everything going through a surge protector, including the phoneline (theres and in/out jack) I have a phone line going in and the data cable(dsl line?) that we got with the modem going to the modem, and from the modem to the computer is the ethernet cable. New lines would probably make the whole thing better, but the problem is convincing my dad to pay more money...
  14. they round to the nearest % because their script or whatever it is is lazy, now I'm at 26 mb. I'll finish this eventually, but in the meantime I'm going to fill up at least 6 adresses to their max, I downloaded a bunch of fansubs of anime (legal cause they're not licensed in US yet) , and my computers almost full, so I'm going to upload them to the gmail servers, sending them to myself, and if I want to watch them ever again I can just download them off of gmail. each adress gets 2.7 gigs, I have 95 invtes on my main account and 15 on each one that I make, so my accounts are endless... Besides the download time its just like having extra storage edit: grr, i just checked gmails attachment policy, and 10 mb is the max for each email, I guess i need to split the files up, the episodes I'm trying to send are 350 mb each, luckily my 7-zip file manager can do that (plus it compresses a lot better than regular zip files)
  15. Lol, like I said I was venting, when I typed that I was angry at the world. Now I'm just not fully awake so my reply may not make much sense, I'm just typing things in the order I think of them without concern about structure. (lol, I typed this paragraph last) Well, we got it installed. We have to use the CD because the modem wouldn't turn on "right" until we used the CD, they probably program the modem like that or something. Good news is that we don't have to use the AOL, I'm trying to wean my dad off of it at the moment, instead having him use Firefox with the AOL webpage as his homepage. Now I need to tweak the computer because it was tweaked for dial-up, so we're only getting about a 1/4 of the speed we're supposed to get. But first, I need to reformat that computer because my dad plays on partypoker.net and doesn't realize that its infecting the computer with spyware, and all of the extra AOL crap like their security center is slowing it down. I don't feel like cleaning it manually, and theres not really any important files on there anyways, they're all here on my notebook (plus I had just done a reformat back in June, so I still know where my backup Cd's are.) SBC ended up making me even more upset yesterday anyways, I went to the computer when I woke up and tried to install, I got past the step that was hanging up, but then it was saying that it couldn't connect. Only after installing it almost fully, it said that you cant install until you like was turned on (Why didnt they say this at the beginning of hte CD?) and that I should dial the service number to see when it would be on. I called, and apparently when they say they are turning a service on, they turn it on when theres no more time to use it, 8 pm... we're paying for it to be turned on that day, the least they could have done was turn it on earlier, my dad seldom uses that computer after 8 (he goes to bed early, he has to be in work at 5 am), and I don't have my router yet. All the wiring is my house is Do-it-Yourself, I had to get my dad involved because I cant tell one wire from another down there, its a web of line splitters. If the house gets passed down to me I'm getting a professional in to re-wire the place, well actually even if we were going to sell it we would have to re-wire the place, theres no way this stuffs up to code. As to the software installation I didn't have a choice in the matter of him getting involved, he just stood there and looked over my shoulder and made stupid comments, just like he does with everything else... lol, thats funny, they've made me sign for cheaper things, and they've come to the back door (well, actually, its not a back door its a side door thats enclosed.) I just don't appreciate my items being left in plain sight of the neighbors who would gladly steal something so they can sell it for drug money. My boyfriend suggested afterwords that if they pulled something like that again that we have someone (like him) take the item then call UPS and complain about not getting item they don't have a signature so they cant prove that we got it... (don't worry we wouldn't do it, we just like to think up loopholes and how to exploit them in our spare time.)
  16. grrr.. now I'm mad. I didnt go online yesterday, so when I went to my gmail account all of yesterdays emails are marked the 18'th, with no times. I went into the emails to check times to see if I could sort them but it only lists the time that it was sent in the senders timezome. I'm too not awake right now to sort them all out like I should, So I may just call of the the emails I got for that day "invalid" if I try to do any types of graphs, so I can just not include them... I'm also up to 25 mb, but i dont feel like updating the sign yet...
  17. Warning: This is a vent/rant for the most part. My DSL connection isn't even turned on yet and I'm already frustrated... Let me start from the beginning, which has nothing to do with the actual connection... Yesterday after the UPS trucks stopped running I asked my dad "Hey, did you get the equipment for the dsl, I'd like to at least have it all set up so I can just connect tomarrow?" He replies no, and sometime after dinner he called SBC/SNET and asked where our package was. They replied that it was on our front porch. First of all, why is UPS leaving our 50 dollar package right on the porch, without even having us sign for it? They should know better especially in my city. Secondly, we have a rather large sign on the front door that says "MAKE ALL DELIVERIES TO THE BACK PORCH." This isn't the first time we've had trouble with their illiterate delivery people... So we go to start hooking up the connection. I go downstairs to the basement where the line comes in so I can just use 1 filter instead of five. This is harder than I thought because our phone line is split in many places and held together by vast amounts of duct-tape. After about 15 minutes of trying to make my dad understand plain english (for some reason he didn't understand "no filter on line to computer") , we finally were able to hook up the filter in the right place. I was able to hook up the modem to the computer just fine once we got over plugging it in, the power strip was almost full, so I had to move things around. I ask my dad who is standing around doing nothing if a white cord runs to the lamp on top of the TV. He replies that no, the cord is black. I climb out from under the desk, look for myself, then contemplate slapping him because apparently he cant tell the difference between black and white. Then I unplugged the white cord of the useless lamp and plugged in the modem. And nows the best part, the software installation. I had gone through the step by step instructions on their little installer and now it was doing the software. SBC insists on IE, which I hate, so it made sure it was there and moved on. Then it came to required components or something like that and froze. I restarted and tried again, and the installer stuck at about 95%. I cancel and start again, and it sticks at the same place. My dad asks if the task manager would help, which I replied to with no, and he proceeded to ask me the same thing another six times. At that point I mumbled a few choice words and walked out of the room. The cherry on top is that the SBC is through AOL. The rep on the phone and the website itself claim that the deal that we're getting from SBC is the best, but when I went to their site, they had the same exact plan for 2 dollars less. Not only that, but its AOL. I have a bad feeling that once I get my router in I'm going to have to install their ad-ware crap, which will make my pristine notebook all slow and cruddy. Why else would the SBC installation disk be specially made for AOL... So, I'm not even connected yet and I already hate it, I've had two experiences with DSL and they've both been nightmares (and they've both been through SBC) I'll admit that once its running the speeds are great compared to dial up, but setting up a connection shouldn't be this much of a hassle. A large part of me is hoping that we cant get it to work so we can back out of the contract, they cant keep us in a contract for a service that doesn't work... With my luck I'll go downstairs in the morning and it will work perfectly, or something will explode. I'm routing for the explosion.
  18. Lol, stupid people...That site has some good articles though, this ones my fave http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/08/17/firefox_crop_circle/
  19. lol, it was just some preview video for a game or something, I was just using you as an example so nobody else does it with something bad , or atleast so people pick less obvious names (like I should talk, I use daiquirii everywhere)
  20. A little update.Figured I'd post for 3 reasons... 1) I am 1/100'th of the way there, and the amount of mail I get each day is increasing. I've abandoned the spam only approach, instead I am signing up for every free newsletter I can find via google. You name it I'm subscribed to it, or will soon be. I have enough subcriptions to different tech newsletters that I could be one of news anchors. 8/12/06 (94) 8/13/06 (92) 8/14/06 (150) 8/15/06 (248) 8/16/06 (459) 8/17/06 (498)-so far 2) If you're going to sign me up for some site, dont go using my email for your own account. If its a downloads site or something I can easily see your history, and figure out whos downloading what, especially if you use a name similar to the one you use here *cough* gotmilk/gotmilk4 *cough*. Lol, it would be sort of funny if I ended up being able to blackmail someone through this, but its not like I would... just a simple warning. 3) Gmail cant do math, since when is 15 1% of 2755. last time I checked, it was .54446 %. Maybe they round up...
  21. One more thing I have a question about, if I were to use the MAC Address Control, would I need to use any other type of security to keep the neighbors out, like passwords or anything? I only want two wireless computers to have access...
  22. gmail doesnt have a feature like that, I'm just clicking on like every link in every email I get so they know my email is valid. I am not subscribed to any sleezy stuff yet, once I get that going I'm sure to get a lot.
  23. ya, I know that, the model I was looking at had 4 ethernet ports in the back, 1 for the desktop, and three others for the printer and stuff. If I were to plug the printer into the router, could I access it from my laptop? I'm probably going to end up getting it from Toshiba's website, after rebates it will be 20 dollars, and then 5.00 in shipping and taxes, but I still need to look around. DSLs not going to be turned on till the 18'th, so if I ordered by tuesday it would probably be here in time..
  24. I am thinking about getting the above mentioned router for my new DSL connection. I just have a quick question before getting it, does anyone know what I may get for a range on it? I would like to have at least fifty feet, and it would need to reach another floor of my house. I intend to have two wireless notebooks and a desktop computer using it. Also, if any of you have any suggestions for a product that would be better for around 20-30 dollars or less it would be appreciated. Thanks.
