TriRan got a reaction from CA3LE in What Company says I will get
If 30Mbps is the boost your supposed to be getting then no you wouldn't see that on the test because the tests are setup to run a bit longer then that lasts to get a stable real world reading of your connection if you want to test and see it you can specifically choose a very small download size say 6-12MB and you might see it then

TriRan reacted to RTB in Accounting for route congestion
That would not solve the issue, and would essentially give you a single average number that is better left as a set of numbers for more information regarding routing.
There are two speed graphs that I think are most important for an internet connection: a graph of speed tests to an internal server (within the ISPs network) to determine the average and variance during the day/week/year/millennium of your connection to your ISP; and a graph of speed tests to a server outside the ISPs network, to find out how good your ISP is at handling that. Latency tests can also be very useful.
You are right in that a single server can be hampered by a single bad network, but it does point to a problem that is not supposed to exist, and will affect many more servers which you want to interact with.

TriRan got a reaction from CA3LE in RCN Download Speed
What your getting is the typical run around that isps give when you have any issues its simply easier to point the finger at anyone or anything else. Don't let up. Your the customer just keep insisting something isn't right with your service because after all your the one paying

TriRan reacted to CA3LE in So windows 8 is failing..........
I don't think you're whining at all. Simply voicing your opinion, That's a big fail on Microsoft's part. Sounds like too big of a change. If users had the option to use the classic look then they could make the transition easier for users.
I think it's pretty cool that the Windows 8 upgrade is only $39.99. Much more in line with what the price of an upgrade should be. They obviously learned that price point from Apple. Although OSX Mountain Lion upgrade 10.8.2 is only $19.99 ... IMO MS should price it at $19.99 ... Also cool that the upgrade price can be used from Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7. OSX upgrade requires that you're running 10.6.8 or greater so you have to incrementally upgrade which in the end costs more.
I personally run all Apple and Linux. I have virtual machines of pretty much every operating system but only use them for development purposes. OSX makes me much more efficient, I'm glad I left the PC world and got real computers. --- TMN has always run on linux. You really can't beat linux for website hosting.

TriRan reacted to CA3LE in Saguaro Cactus Cell Tower / Camouflage Cell Towers
I kinda forgot about this. But here's a follow up. I took pictures up close after they finished working on this.
It's funny... the needles are just paint splatters, lol. It looks real when you stand back though.
... Unrelated... but check out this cool pic I just found on my phone. I always hold bees and other bugs... they never sting me. Well, once I got stung... but it was because it crawled between my fingers and I accidentally squeezed it a little and it stung me right between my fingers. But I don't count that because it really didn't mean to... more of a reaction to the pressure.
... after a long day of fixing bugs, I go outside and hold them. Go figure.

TriRan got a reaction from mudmanc4 in few hardware questions
1. 2011 is the newest but it only supports the I7 series as of right now, however there is nothing wrong with 1155, they actually just released the new ivybridge CPU's for it so you wouldn't have any issues for a long time using that socket either
2. i doubt you'll see very much benefit on Gen3 PCI express slots for quite some time
3. no you wouldn't need two 7970's for a single 1080p 60hz monitor the only reason i'd ever get two is if your using resolutions like 5760x3240 with like 6+ monitors and trying to game on it,
4. yes as of now they are better then the 680s for video rendering, Nvidia is definately more focus'd on game performance however the 7970 should still knock your socks off with game performance aswell, i have a 5870 and i can still max any game out coming out today with no performance problems
5. i use a closed loop system, heres the thing with closed loop... you won't see much better then air cooling temps for idle because the radiators just aren't big enough however if you will be overclocking at all then this is the option to go because it does do significantly better at cooling higher wattage CPU's under load
6. nope never seen the case but a quick google search should suffice plus check the newegg comments on the case thats always pretty unbiased first hand experience.
7. you might be better off going with 12GB of ram or 16GB because you need to run triple channel memory if i'm not mistaken otherwise you will seriously be hindering the maximum performance your cpu can achieve
8. i use push pull i don't really notice much difference to be honest
9. that sounds like a good estimate if your going to be running two 7970's if only one you could survive on 750W np
i understand completely! i just got a new job, aswell the g/f and i are planning on moving in together soon too god life moves so fast >.<

TriRan got a reaction from McDuff426 in Debian Time defaults on power down
odd issue i've never experienced... i know this isn't a real solution and more of a bandaid but you could always create an init script to update the time/date on startup

TriRan got a reaction from CA3LE in New Router, New Problems
QoS being enabled on a router is a good way to overload the CPU on the router itself its usually a good idea to leave it disabled, in most home uses it won't serve a real purpose anyway

TriRan got a reaction from CA3LE in Just to say Hi!
thats a really good attitude to have... from my experience most ISP's are squirmy little creatures that try to blame anything or anyone else. just keep at it eventually they will put some real effort fourth

TriRan got a reaction from CA3LE in Comcast 30/6
you know this could be a hard drive issue, with the way this site seems to work i've even seen it pick up issues like that try running a benchmark on your HDD and see what sequential write speeds you can achieve typically a HDD can support speeds quite a bit higher then your internet connection but you never know o.O

TriRan got a reaction from CA3LE in Speed test, streaming great in the morning terrible at night.
Aside from making sure the signal levels your receiving are at the appropriate place the only other thing you can do is keep complaining to them it is most likely an issue with their peering and they most likely already know about it I would keep complaining it could be something as simple as a bad amplifier on your node it can't hurt to complain right?

TriRan got a reaction from CA3LE in NY-TX routing speeds deteriorating to testmy.net
if it is a routing issue its nothing testmy.net can fix nor is it a problem that testmy.net has it's the peers job to fix the issues whatever they may be infact it could be TWC that has the problem there is just no way to know... testmy.net does have multiple servers in multiple markets to test
Damon has a server on each coast aswell as one centrally located so you should be able to test from at least one
try one of those and let us know

TriRan got a reaction from Pgoodwin1 in Why does cable modem need a hard reset every month?
your modem and router need to be on the same subnet or....your router needs to have a bridged subnet of the modem (much more difficult) at which point you can access the modems configuration page and click the reset button to soft reset the modem
you can probably find the modem config at http://192.168.100.1

TriRan got a reaction from CA3LE in Why Do My Results Differ From Speedtest.net / Ookla Speed Tests?
i to do not see much difference when my connection is working correctly the problem occurs when my connection is sucking, speedtest.net will say everything is fine and this site will validate that my connection is indeed sucking
