  1. Im aware of that, I have been a member of these forums for 4-5 years. Nothing was ever "broken", therefore nothing needed to be fixed. Charter has always been a dependable provider (at least in my area), they were just really slow in comparison to other camble companies. I was just making an observation that duing the past year, that hasn't been the case so much anymore, they are much more competitive now in the markets they service
  2. I have had Charter for the last 4 years now and have never had any major problems except for the standard few disconnects and ocassional poor bandwidth during peak hours, but that is to be expected as with any cable provider. Charter has been way behind in terms of bandwidth and connection speed for the last 5 years now, but over the last year they have really been pushing to be more competitive in the broadband market, to bad the uploads still suck though. We have the 16/2 package and are consistently geting download speeds over 20, sometimes up to 25. The Upload is a solid 2.1 (I wish I had like 3-5) :::.. 5. so I wake up this morning, and noticed that my browsing is slowed down from where it normally is...... so I come here and test speeds... and this is what i get.... :::.. testmy.net test results ..::: Download Connection is:: 4233 Kbps about 4.23 Mbps (tested with 5983 kB) Download Speed is:: 517 kB/s Upload Connection is:: 666 Kbps about 0.7 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB) Upload Speed is:: 81 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net (Server 1) Test Time:: 2006/10/29 - 12:45pm D-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-GEHRDX7JN U-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-MD7XE3A06 User Agent:: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; FDM) [!] Advertised Speeds are 5/512 Upload has had a strange jump in speed of some sort...... but downloaded has suffered slightly..... I called Charter and they have no idea why it's doing that..... anyone have any ideas on what's going on?
  6. i believe if you downloadvan burens settings, their is one for a 6/ 768k connection....... try those settings for cable nut.... and on tcp optimizer jsut set your slider to like 1000 over... i would say put it on 7000....
  7. nice... i'm upgrading to the10/1 cable package my company offers.... either this weekend or next weekend.. whenever the tech gets around to it... LOL i'll be happy if i can get 900 on The Ul... that would be cool with me.
  8. yes you could prob get better ul....... have you tried tweaking yet... i can get 505k ul on my connection and it's advertized as 512k..... but its cable, so its probably a lot different than dsl.
  9. it does sound kind of unreliable...
  10. I downloaded it and tried it... but i am still finding that IE runs much faster on my system.... browsing times our cut in half with IE for me as opposed to firefox
  11. cool..... i have both firefox and ie..... dont know why... just do..... btw IE7 is out also now......
  12. just retested again.. came u with this.... :::.. 14. check it out just retested.... it's later at nite so i'm gettin full speeds now that pretty much seals the deal for me... i'm definatley getting their 10/1 Service.... it seems like charter is getting their $hit worked out in my area now.... speeds are consistantly runnig 4650-4900 on dl 479-507 on ul........ and it dosent bogdown all the way to 1000-1500/275-350 in the middle of the day anymore..... they must have either upgraded their network.. or they're loosing customers, but either way i'm cool with it....... if i'm getting this close to advertised speeds on this package i should get like 9500-9800/ 950-975 on the 10/1 pacage, and that would be really cool..... so it definatley looks like thats what i'm gonig to be doing..... P.S. check out the 40 ms ping on a server nearly 1000 miles away... pretty cool huh?....... Ya, i'm pretty happy with them..... im anxious to see what the 10/1 package will be like....
  15. coolie..... i would have etter UL than you tho... charter needs to get a better package... i think they should have a 15/2 or 20/2 package... that would be pretty cool. your capped at 768k right?
  16. nice info thanks cable has its issues to.... especially when there are lots of users on the network..... i have experience this a few times myself.... my advertized speeds are 5/512 and i normall run about 4800/490 but when theres lots of people on the network i have seens speeds as low as 1100/350 so it gets as bad..... or worse than dsl sometimes...... with my cable connection i normally have ping times of 33-133 ms in games...... with my old dsl connection i had 166 ping constantly..... dsl seems to be much mroe consistant in the speeds..... so if you could get a fast dsl connection (3Mb or higher) i wold choose that over cable..... it has better ping times.... and speed consistancy.....
  17. ya... thats what i was thinking.... i still think i'm going to upgrade for the faster download.. it would come in handy when dling games or large files.
  18. and look at the awesome ping..... only 27ms for a server 450miles from me....! it's awesome for gaming..... I love cable i dont think i need anymore than 5/512 for gaming really..... although 10/1 would be nice for dl'ing /ul'ing large iles, which I do sometimes.... but i dont think i really need something faster than this for everday gaming do I?
  19. so check this out.... normally i get around 4600-4700 dl and 480 ul...... but recently my isp stability and speed is increasing..... check out this speed test i'm pretty happy with Charters reliabilty and speed... so far in nearly a year of their service ive had to call tech suport.... lets see how many times?...... O ya, Thats right... None! in fact i'm so happy, i'm going to be calling and upgrading to their 10/1 tier
