  1. Is this a proper ip setup assigned from DHCP

I have been having problems with My ip changing from a 12.xxx. ip to a 173.xxx. ip address after a power outage or whenever mediacom has an Internet outage. The setup I end up with is as follows:

    IP            173.16.61.xxx

    S Mask    255.255.254.0

    Gateway  173.16.60.1

DNS          I use Open Dns as Mediacom's dns servers suck

I have bypassed router, changed nic, modem,  etc. Have the same results. My speeds go

down and I am unable to use many of my services, one of which is my internet phone.

The only way I can make things work is to go back and enter my previous ip info

manually as if it were "static".  At this point I can get to the Walledgarden site to reset my "sticky ip" and set everything back to "auto".  Customer support was a wasted call as usual.

Anyone have any ideas what is going on here?

  2. Total Video Converter

    www.effectmatrix.com

Total Video Converter is a powerful and versatile video conversion software which supports playing, converting all kinds of video and audio formats files to be played in iPod, PSP, Zune, cellphone, PMP, PDA etc.  Integrated, Media Burning tool burns the converted files to AUDIO CD, video DVD/SVCD/VCD

I use this and it works great.Go to the web site above for more info.

  3. I have always been a fan of Goggle and like their approach to their software development.   When I received a cartoon in my "Gmail box" I  thought it was another one of their pranks we all know. I installed and all looked good and was planning on having fun exploring a new browser.

The first forum I ever joined was here because of the Speed test and long term stats that are kept here on www.testmy.net . This is the first place I come whenever I make changes. When I could not get a test to run here blew my day.. I figured I had to be missing something. I later logged in to my Steamcast server and found that I could not view the tail-logs on line. I started looking around in the groups and blogs  looking at comments and questions about Google Chrome. I don't write code but this has to be an easy fix. I wish some of those that are praising the speed and features would drop by here and test their speeds. . Hope there is a fix soon.

  4.     I have had a live stream on the net for some years now. I use it to test different encoders and other ways to improve the audio. I only keep a limited number of slots open due to legal stuff and bandwith issues. I hate to ban or block someone that is on to listen, but when I find abuse I have no problem turnig off tha lights.

Below are three users I have been having problems with. those familiar with Shoutcast, steamcast, etc should understand. II support most user agents "Media Players" but in the pas few days have been getting some that look more like a Mac address and a normal player. Normally I would just ban the player in question and forget the issue. well this one is different cause it UA is different each time a client logs on. I only picked 3 from today to show. The interesting trace is #2. I would really like to know what they are trying

anyway here is what I got.....

These are the log entry ip's and below are the traces....

  5. its not the modem its my cable signal.  when the cable guy came thru a while back he tested the signal on the line and it was like -4 or somethin like that.  they were able to get it up to like +5 for signal strength but its still really weak.  i deal with it.  its better then dial up.

After speaking to a tech friend at my mchsi head-end I was informed that the company specs for power level is from -7 dBmV to +7 dBmV.

He said he got best results anywhere from "0 to -5 dBmV" . A +5 and above may slow your speeds down. He had a couple of suggestions.

    1. Run a diag on your modem while you are online and note your status... Depending on your modem it should show you info similar to what I have below.

    2. If your signal is above +1dBmV try putting a 2way splitter just before the cable modem and check your speeds again.

    Forward Path:

      Signal Acquired at 111.000 MHz

      SNR: 35.9 dB

      Recieved Signal Strength -4.5 dBmV

      Bit Error Rate  0.001%

      Modulation  64 QAM

    Return Path:

        Connection

        Freq  31.5 MHz

        Power Level 48.8 dBmV

        Channel ID  5

        Modulation  QPSK

I had a speed issue for quite some time and it turned out the node was overloaded and a lot of noise on the line.

You may want to go to www.dslreports.com and check out the line quality test. There should be users from your area in the Mediacom forum found there.

    Good Luck

  6. My guess is that you are being pushed through a proxy.. Do you have to setup any ISP information into IE for your internet to work??  ISPConfig is a ISP management software that among other things can function as a proxy.

Proxy was the first thing I checked.I checked on my other PC and it does not show. Only here on my notebook. Below is what shows whenever I go to the admin of my stream. Also checked stream software and they have no clue.

    <08/03/2007@23:31:03> [dest] <192.168.0.xx> [200] (OK) "Request: GET /admin.cgi" {UA: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.1;  Embedded Web Browser from: http://bsalsa.com/;}'>http://bsalsa.com/;}

I went to the site http://bsalsa.com and it shows as a product one must install or purchase. I don't know what to even ask about from there. I know I never (knowingly) downloaded their package and installed. the software.

  7.   Host Stats Fixed Since the new server upgrade I see that I am no longer getting quary errors in the stats. This is GREAT! Hope this is true with all Mediacom users. Sure makes me a happy camper again. :occasion14:

  8. Question about embedded web browser

I noticed sometime ago when checking my stream logs oline that I am using an "embedded web browser" I see the same thing here on my test results.

User Agent:: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.1;  Embedded Web Browser from: http://bsalsa.com/; .NET CLR 1.0.3705; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; Media Center PC 4.0) [!]

Does anyone know anything about this? How it is installed or what programs use it, etc. I reinstalled ie7 and get same results Have seen it on a few other test results here.

  9. The graphs were very helpful to me as I was able to prove to my isp that there was a problem in my area. I had over a 1000 test in my database at the time. I made a copy of my stats and the problem was resolved with my isp and I am now quite happy. Have found a lot of mchsi users that no longer come here.

I first inquired about this back in Jan in another post.

  11. You may try going to http://www.testmy.net/tools/database/host_stats.php and check there. I have had to start using another service as TMN no longer supports mediacom as a host. I have sent messages and asked in many post but have not gotten any response. Yes there was a crash in Dec 06 but this is almost July 07. Seems there has been a loss of intrest in maintaining the speedtest section of TMN. Not much use to me when I can;t benchmark my test with my host. :cussing:

  12. The future of Internet radio is in immediate danger. If you are a Webcaster, Musician, or just like to listen to internet radio this law will have a dramatic impact on YOU.  Royalty rates for webcasters have been drastically increased by a recent ruling and are due to go into effect on July 15 (retroactive to Jan 1, 2006!). If the increased rates remain unchanged, the majority of webcasters large and small will go bankrupt and silent on this date. Internet radio needs your help! The Internet Radio Equality Act has recently been introduced in both the House (H.R. 2060) and Senate (S. 1353) to save the Internet radio industry. Let your voice be heard. Please call or email your senators and your representative to ask them to co-sponsor the Internet Radio Equality Act by clicking below.

You cannot post such a large image with a link in it. It violates our rules, I am not sure about the rest of this post. I will leave it intact but next time I wouldnt make it seem like such an ad- Shug7272

  13. Well things are improving... and should even get better when they finish the new head-end down the road.Only fair to give tha guys a Big.....on their help!  Been a long time coming. I would have never been able to prove my case to Mediacom had it not been for the database and host stats that no longer work for Mchsi on testmy-net! At least I made a copy before it messed up.

    Here are my latest speeds..

  14. I have been on the 5000/256 package since it was avaliable. They did find the problem here and I have been working with the techs from the head-end. Seems the nodes were completely overloaded. Also they finally switched from the "temp" T1 ;lines to fiber!jThey are now building a new building for a NEW head-end for Mediacom. I now have decent speeds!

  15. Oh and I left out this for those actually going to the game.

    .

    NFL: Party Poopers

(CBS4) MIAMI Die-hard football fans attending the Super Bowl game at Dolphin Stadium are getting a rude awakening after finding out that no tailgating of any type will be allowed on game day within one mile of the stadium

    :tickedoff:

  16. Whats gonna happen if ya got a new 56" digital TV...will a "401 Error" pop up and say your not allowed to view this program because NFL royalties have not been paid for this set? Have you ever checked out the privacy policy from your cable company regarding ya "digital cable tuner" that sits on top of the TV? It has an ip address just like your pc and tracks all theviewing habits. Talk about tracking cookies! It would be interesting to see how their rating were if everyone bypassed their cable box that watched the SuXXX XXXL  :thefinger:

  17. This no joke

IndyStar.com: "The NFL is telling Fall Creek Baptist Church in Indianapolis that the church's plans to use a wall projector to show the game at a party for church members and guests would violate copyright laws.

NFL officials spotted a promotion of Fall Creek's 'Super Bowl Bash' on the church Web site last week and sent pastor John D. Newland a letter -- via FedEx overnight -- demanding the party be canceled.

Initially, the league objected to the church's plan to charge partygoers a fee to attend and that the church used the license-protected words 'Super Bowl' in its promotions.

Newland told the NFL his church would not charge partygoers -- the fee had been intended only to pay for snacks -- and that it would drop the use of the forbidden words.

But the NFL wouldn't bite. It objected to the church's plans to use a projector to show the game on what effectively was a 12-foot-wide screen. It said the law limits the church to one TV no bigger than 55 inches"
