I have tried cablenut for a while. When I first tried it I had 4mbps comcast plan. It took me forever to get the correct settings for my cablenut and once i did the speed increased a lil but I had such bad packet loss from it that my mmorpgs etc. were lagging horribly and i had to get rid of it. I now have the 8 mbps /768k plan and have tried cablenut once again with no luck. Speeds are way slower with cablenut then without. Is it something I'm doing wrong or do some of you peopel have the same problem im having? Maybe this is a stupid question but im not sure. I just dont get any benifit out of using the program. I wish it worked for me!!!!!!!

That error u see in my SS is the error i get when i try to change it to 32. Do u have AIM?

Im advertized at 6mbps, im getting 5.8-5.9 when directly connected but when going wireless even though the router is 6!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! inches from the wireless nic (i had to stress 6 inches) im only getting like 2mbps haha it tells me excellent connection in the windows wireless thing on my quick launch i was on the phone with linksys for 5 hours changed channels updated to latest firmware, nothing is helping me.

My connection is alot slower, the network isnt encrypted so if someone had a laptop where i am they could prolly find out my passwords and personal information etc. How do i tweak my speed for this connection? Do i need to update the firmware?

I was correct on my guess. Its conduit that sub contractors are running for verizon. Its right down the street from me now. Well basically 5 minutes ago I just saw 3 verizon vans on this block and SPOOLS AND SPOOLS the hugest spools of orange colored cables i ever saw in a shopping center parking lot. Imagine the little orange thing that holds an extention cord. The thing with the little handle on it to reel up the extention cord. Well thats exactally what this looked like only about 100000x bigger. Is this FIOS?

OK well basically I know how cable modem works but I'm a total noob when it comes to FIOS. Now the question I have basically is can someone explain it the way I can explain how cable modem works. Basically the cable wire comes from the pole outside and is screwed into the cable modem and then the network cable is the cable that comes from the modem and plugs into the NIC card in your PC. I'm sure most of you know this but when I'm reading about FIOS I'm clueless. Whats CAT6, ONT, and what is the battery pack for? I'm so confused you guys don't even know. Will I still be using the same connection to plug into my NIC the same network cable or will it have to be bigger or something? Please someone elaborate on this a minute and make sure to laugh at me because I'm such a noob!

Well I have comcast atm and I was looking at a wireless NIC since I have a wireless router and was wondering which would be suggested? I saw a linksys wireless NIC for like 40 bucks but it can only handle 11mbps I need more then that. Thanks

When is it coming out? Although I'm switching from comcast to fios when its available in my area I'm still interested in upgrading to 8mbps if its before fios in my area. Any knowledge?

My current settings are for the Extreme tab, because Sine i have 6mbps package it seemed the cable modem settings had a too low of a TCP recieve window so I used extreme and got these settings... TCP Recieve window 513920 MTU discovery YES black ohle detect NO selective ACKs YES max duplicate ACKs 2 MaxMTU 1500 (i know to be correct) Time ti Live (TTL) 64

And the guy hooked a device up to my line and told me I have a 44 rating. He told me that means there is a ton of noise on the line. Basically he mentioned that people will come out and do maintenance on the plate outside and they will check it outside and if there is no problem outside I'm guessing they will run a new line. He also mentioned that they will check the next few polls down to see if the problem is there before they run a new line. Does this sound reasonable?

I have a 6mbps connection and i have a tech coming out tomorrow from comcast to see why im only getting 3.8mbps downstream. FIOS as im sure u ALL know at $50 a month the same im paying for comcast 6mbps, FIOS is offering 15mbps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and 2mbps upstream!!! wow. Hitting comcast hard im switching as soon as its in my area. How is comcast going to respond? Anyone have any inside information on what their planning? They have to try something to compete. I used to laugh at verizon DSL because comcast blew it away, and now verizon + microsoft are making comcast look like babys in the bandwidth world. What is comcasts next action?

Well then why is everyone dying for verizon to change to DHCP? If the speed wont be different then who cares which it is?

Why is everyone wanting to get rid of the PPPoE ? I don't quite know what it is. I thought I read that PPPoE is a static IP while DHCP is dynamic. Everyone keeps praying for DCHP and im told that it will slow speed down because it will share the net with other users in the area and when high bandwidth is being used in your area it will slow you down. While im told PPPoE is a very strong connection directly to the provider and you will not lose speeds. What am I missing here?

OK well to give you some information I live in bucks county which is about 30 mins from center city Philadelphia. Today I called verizon because in a blink I would dump comcast 6mbps for FIOS 15mbps So anyhow they told me its not available in my area yet but the tech guessed it around 2 months. My question is. What do I have to do to prepare for FIOS? ex. get a new NIC card? Run any wires? Do I need a new MB? hehe any comments would be great! Thanks all.
