From what I can find out Comcast is running a proprietary software (Power Boost) that will increase download bandwidth temporarily. How long this will stay?? Likely not long.
Looks like the exaggerated speeds are semi legit for now...
Gonna be fun while it lasts

Its kinda up and down here..right now its in the 50 ish range...below the cap but still good.Earlier it was blazing fast... Comcast "may" be using some sort of traffic shaping in the path that is giving me these deviating readings. I did have a couple of UDP ports open (Echolink) but have since been terminated but that was about all of consequence that is/was connected except the browser and E Mail most of the other is filtered out in the router and firewall..
I will check it again later on tonight after the peak has peaked and see how it looks then!

Mine show only Firefox and Thunderbird running under task mgr.. but there are 64 other processes running otherwise with 0%CPU load

Thanks,
That is much the scheduled PM here for all 6 PC's connected which I can guarantee works.(just got through working with 4 at work virus infested )
I have since learned of a few new additions to the node I am on...possibility of a bandwidth hog somewhere close
Until recently I returned speeds at or near the caps..whatever went south went that way quick!
Thanks again!

Anybody seeing problems with the speed test? I can test at one time and get an insane speed of better than 10K down and the next will be 31 ish.
Modem config files remained the same. Strange thing is it does seem to get a 10K plus download speed with uploads in the 300 range at Speakeasy.
No real problem as it still seems to work ok with the 1100 download speeds reported..just curious.

They must really be running behind schedule.. I had been getting the better speeds for a few weeks when I got mine.

I had a Terayon for over a year, gone dead, adelphia gave me a surf boad for replacement, i do prefer the terayon achieved higher speeds.
Did the Terayon acheive a higher speed than the Motorola??

f*** they should give you a brand new one for all the trouble you've been going through putting your modem in the freezer isnt really gonna help, but cool it down. and it seems that maybe doing this caused the problem?, or did this happen b4 ?, anyways anything electrical by water = disaster. do it if you want lol but dont do it to your next one. plz. LOLZ
Nope..problem was there well before I cooled it down. Being that its a leased unit I didnt open it up to verify exactly what was heating and causing a problem with freeze mist or such.

I haven't pressured them much about the replacement...yet. Since they are closed by the time I get off work and can get there I have let it ride so to speak.
I'll have to send wifey at that "special" time of the month..she'll likely get an extra or two
When I notice a slowdown I find the diagnostics page cant be loaded(server error) then if I reset it that returns and so does the speeds.
Strange little box

Update:
This modem (original with all its problems) has been running semi-flawless for over a month now
The folks at Comcast say there is absolutely nothing wrong with this modem and they will not replace it until they detect a failure.

I have not had any troubles yet..with the exception of showing my speeds a lot slower here than they test at other servers.. I 'll likely stick with this providing it does not present any problems till the expirartion then I'll find something else. The only product that I'm using is the virus scan. I didnt need the firewall or any of the others so far hardware firewall has handled that ok
So far so good
-
Yeah..That is the key to any Anti Virus Spyware Program updating often!!
I'm running XP Pro on all 5 of my machines I have online either LAN or WAN. All but two have AVG with no problems there either. The other 2 have the Comcast Branded McAfee Virus Scan program

Why would you complain? If you're on the 6000/384 plan thats a perfectly good upload speed.

If and when Verizon FiOS comes to your area, it won't be sneaking up on you. Verizon does a very good job of lighting up the newspapers with full page ads, TV commercials, and even go as far as hiring those mattress delivery trucks to carry their banner up and down the strteets. Thel'll park those banner trucks at street coners in the mnorning during rush hour. You'll see Verizon trucks and trucks marked 'Verizon Contractor' eveywhere for months.
I have seen a rash of Verizon trucks around here lately but I dont see no way(in a very hot place) that we would be getting anything like FIOS as we are a rural area that just managed to get DSL available for most.. But on the other hand I dont know whats up here especially since Sprint is our local phone carrier...
