    I was surprised by the results, but my area has been having issues the past 2 days with inconsistent speeds.  I'll try again once everything is straighened out.

  2. TW and Comcast are sitting in a tree together.  Seems like both of them, especially TW, think 512kbps or 768kbps is enough for home use.  But at least this thread shows a hint of proof that Comcast is thinking about the future (download wise).  Adelphia upgraded my area to Docsis 2.0 over a year ago (maybe even longer), and now... I'm stuck at 8/512.  Ugh... at this point I'd rather pay $30/month for 3/384 DSL but I can't get it.

    Good luck to those of you who get the faster speeds.

  3. S7R1D3R: take a look at the Speed Chart on testmy.net ("Speed Chart" under Misc Tools at the very top).  That chart goes up to OC256, which is almost 14Gbit/s...but right now I believe the fastest widely-used OC line is OC-768 (SBC/ATT is supposed to be upgrading their backbone to this over the summer and I think Microsoft has 1 or more).  OC-768 is 40Gbit/s.  Some companys are testing OC1536, which is 79.6Gbit/s..but the real kicker will be OC3072, which will be around 159.2Gbit/s :)  I the info for the this at: http://www.biologydaily.com/biology/Broadband_Internet_access (scroll all the way to the bottom and look under "External Links").

  4. I did do the cablenut tweak which is what got me over my cap for download speeds but my upload has been like that since the day they installed it.  And yes i have tried the adelphia speed test.  Download speed is usually closer to 4000Kbps-4200Kbps but i can live with that.  Upload is almost always the same no matter what i use to test my conection.  I wish adelphia would come and install the adelphia extreme where i live.  16Mbps down and 2Mbps up, for $60.  Thats what i pay now for the service i have.  I have to pay a little than normal more because its a business account i use for work.

    Most Adelphia HSI customers on these forums would like the Extreme 16/2 service (me included) but the truth is it's just not bring deployed in many places.  Last summer there were adding 1-2 cities per month but I haven't seen their Extreme page updated in at least 2 months...which could be because of the CC/TW deal.

  5. Your not gonna that far over cap and my belief is the you have the Premiere package (6000/768). If you can post an upload speed to verify.

    TheHalf

    Before I upgraded to Premier, I was consistently getting 4.6-4.8mbit down on 4/384.  Upload was also over cap - usually around 440kbps.

  6. :::.. Download Stats ..:::

    Connection is:: 6385 Kbps about 6.39 Mbps (tested with 20972 kB)

    Download Speed is:: 779 kB/s

    Test Time:: 2006/05/28 - 1:59pm

    Bottom Line:: 111X faster than 56K 1MB Download in 1.31 sec

    Tested from a 20972 kB file and took 26.906 seconds to complete

    Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1)

    Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 76.04 % faster than the average for host (adelphia.net)

    Come on Adelphia!  Will we ever see 8mbit like Comcast and Time Warner?

  7. I can totally understand why you're mad because in truth, you're getting at best 70% of your advertised download speed....but hey, your connection is a lot faster than what's currently available in most other countries in the world.  Be happy!

  8. 16/1 from Comcast, 10/1 (possibly) from Charter, Verizon FiOS, OOL Boost....

    WTF, come on Adelphia!  Many people wonder why Adelphia customers are anxious about this takeover with Comcast/Time Warner.  It's because some of us want fast(er) speeds too (amoung other things)  :?

  9. That's good to hear - and your new test is very close to your 6mbit cap, so you have to be happy.  Sucks you had to go through much, and lose files to achieve your desired results but at least now your system is clean and you can always rebuild on files.

  10. You should call, especially if your service has been bad for more than a day or so.  CC needs to know one of their areas are having problems, even if you think them sending out a tech is a waste of time.  No call = no help usually.

  11. It could be the rest of the ppl in your neighborhood haven't gotten back online due to your ISP...so, you're possibly on the line by yourself, hence the fast speeds.  I've had a couple friends who got crazy speeds immediately following an outtage, network upgrades, etc, but it didn't last that long.

  12. He're speeds from my campus's CSCI department:

    Not too shabby for a lab with 30 PCs.  Upload is usually higher, but I won't complain.  :D

  13. Hell where I go to school at here in Maryland (CCBC)  they are  over 16,000 students registered and attending classes in just 1 of 3  main campuses  and 2 more extention campuses across Baltimore County.  They are around 6,000 computers on just the one campus I work on because I happen to work in the ITS ( Information Technical Services)  and if I'm on campus at 7 am  and the only person online throughout the campus at 7am,  I could easily spike 20Mbps  downstream  with about 3-5Mbps upstream through  Comcast Dark Fiberoptics.  But with most of the computers are being used at the same time ; I can only get between 300-950Kbps downstream but the upstream  is around  1.3-1.6Mbps. So really  Fiberoptics  helps  especially for colleges    but the lame high schools needs better  connections.

    My college has around the same number of registered students exept the campus has many labs (I know of 6 in CompSci and 4 in InfoTech) with 50-60 students each.  There are also labs in the Biology building, Library, etc  Havent tested the speeds outside of CompSci and InfoTech because they're both in the same building, which is where I usually spend most of my time.  The wireless isn't as fast (duh), but I think it can get close to 6mbit/1mbit if you have a good signal.

    I totally agree with you, ajb62787, on the high school subject.  They need fiber instead of 1, 2, or 3 T1 lines.  My HS had (I believe) 2 T1 lines for 4000+ students and during brunch and lunch speed was comprable to dial-up.  There were rumors floating around my senior year that the school district was thingking about upgrading to T3.  All I can say is, I hope they did that.

    These tests were ran from one of CSUSB's Info Technology labs.  CompSci labs' speeds are, worst case scenario, ~3X faster (both ways) than these (full lab with 50 students).
