  1. Ok, so many posts to look through so I guess i'm taking the lazy way out here (sorry)...I want out of this crap service from Xplornet satellite....anyone got an easy way out of a two year contract,  short of hiring a lawyer!  Their service bites...resorting to dial up alot lately, and i'm fed up.

  3. I was transfering some files from my large hard drive to my smaller one getting ready to formatt.  While I was transfering a 300mb folder, half way throught I ahd an error saying one of the files folders couldn't be tranfered for some reason (I forget the reason), I had problems getting the task to respond after that, and make a long story short, I had to reboot my computer.  Upon start up again, I no longer have a D drive showing anywhere (thats my small hard drive). I can't seem to find it either, I click to send something to it (had a shortcut to the small HD in my send to on right click option) and it says the HD cannot be found or has been removed.  Any ideas what couldve happened or how to get it back.or find it?

  4. New Brunswick in Canada.  Tdc broadband was going to set up in my community in Nova Scotia but I think they caught wind that nobody is going to be willing to pay $730 for hook up up front and $49.99/month. They were suppose to be up and running about a month ago, but they are not and they answer no emails regarding if they are going to continue with their plans.  Nova Scotia gov't is committed to everyone having high speed access by 2009, and they are co-funding pilot projects and seeking out private companies to set up high speed services in rural areas. One county is presently being done and the gov't will monitor their service and prices to see if they will get them to go into other areas later this year.

  5. I have no idea if this will help you out as I know nothing about wireless, but a few weeks ago a new company was saying they were going to expand into my area with wireless internet (which they have not), and I was emailing the rep asking if gaming would be good or not.  In one of his replies to me he said it should work ok but there is some latency in their system and he used an example that Linksy routers seem to shut down with some customers.  I guess the point im trying to make or ask, maybe is it the router on that type of connection casuing the problem?

  6. LoL. if someone voted porn i'd appluad them for honesty  :haha:

You can appluad me for trying then. :haha: I was going topick porn but only could pick 2, so I evaluated my choices of surfing, email and porn and I surf alot, and email porn to a buddy, so I guess I can kill 3 choices in two votes!  lmao

  7. yup, 3 years is too long.  that would bite if a better type of internet came into your area for alot less money a few months after you signed that contract!, it happens, thats how I got this satellite internet for nothing.

  8. what id like to kno, is how much befored they throttle the bandwidth ... a lvl 2 tech is supposed to phone me in ... umm 39 minutes ago ... so ill ask him *if* they ever phone

I asked that question to the lady on the phone, she said she can't really tell me! I don't know if it was a case that she didn't actually know(which the way she sounded led me to believe that), or she is not at liberty to tell a customer.

  9. At the time, I felt it was the worse part of my lfe as a teenager  basically due to not wanting the pressures of doing stuff I thought wasting my time and boring, not knowing what I wanted to do in life, and just wanting to hang out. Now that im out of school for 20 years, in a job that I took just to get out of school and I will add that I find boring and no challenge, I look back on my school years and "now" realize they were a good time in my life, I just didn't realize it. Although I do look back at the good times of hanging out with friends and I am grateful for that part of it. To all you teenagers in here, really sit down and try to look ahead by 10 years and look at the types of work around you, make a thought out choice for a profession, don't settle like alot of us do! Make a career choice that you will find interesting, hopefully enjoyable and hopefully make good money doing it.

  10. Having a good day today!   512/128 Xplornet satellite package

Im being a good boy now!   :haha::2funny:

  15. I'd like to shed some light here for some of the new less informed users on Xplornet  if I may..to all you that really know your stuff, please let me shine for a few minutes  and seem like I know what im talking about. (LOL)  j/k  I am also new ot Xpornet coming from dail up. In a new fasinating world of streaming videos, faster dloads and whatever else I was deprived of in dial up world I took advantage of watching clips from you tube, dloading files that took so long on dial up I cancelled, etc. I was geting good speed tests in the morning and found my service got sucky as the day went on like it seems alot of you are also experiencing,  so I called Xplornet. I was instructed to do speed tests three times daily over the weekend and call them on Monday with the results, and he did tell me with the 512/128 pkg I should expect to get avg speeds of 300-350 down, 80 or so Up.  I did the tests all weekend and low and behold, good in the morning, slowing down as usual. So I called them back today because I was getting frustrated with my connection again. I must say I spoke to a very friendly lady and very helpfull in trying to explain how the service works. She did say that a few of my speed tests didn't look quite right, but for the most part the rest were around whats expected. She did say she would ask some techs about the few that didn't look right, so hopefully she will  :?:.  She then went on to explain that she saw I was FAP'd quite a few times for excessive usage. I told her what I was doing on the internet and asked if each action I was performing includes itself into the FAP.  Streaming videos yes, dloading files yes, which is mainly what I am doing, I figured dloading was in it but didn't realize watching videos would be.Now mind you I didn't think I was doing it that much, but I guess when your not looking at the file sizes, they can add up quickly. So therefore FAP! She couldn't tell me the size when I asked her what the limit is, I don't know if it changes throughout the day or what, in her defence, maybe that's not her area to know that. She suggested I run updates , dloads or anything else that uses alot of bandwith during hours that peek time isn't an issue. If you are FAP'd on Xplornet, she said they cut your service by 25% for one hour, after that hour is up if they see basically you aren't being a hog, you get the 25% back, if you continue to dload or whatever got you FAP'd, after that hour, another 25% cut back on your service and so on until you can basically be at a crawl. Seems I was FAP'd today and I didn't eventhink I was using it much and the wife said she wasn't doing much, so that ones a little wierd, but nevertheless, it happened! I'm glad she told me the time limits and such so I know now and I'll have to try to adjust what I do..  As for what I think of my Xplornet now, I think for $65/month plus $400 for the hardware, I should have a little more freedom than what they give without having to pay the high costs of the top plans.  Would I recommend this satellite to anyone..probabaly not! :icon_pale: Will I keep it or go back to dail up..not sure yet.
