  1. It will happen cost will go down, speeds will go up, everyone wants to beat everyone, my ISP likes to claim they have the fastest Connection around, so maybe they will upgrade again u never know, i believe things will work out for the better. :)

I agree... sooner or later they will offer other packages / plans.  I would suspect that once SBC comes out with their Project Lightspeed Verizon may need to add a couple of more levels... it's all good for us!!  :D

  2. It really amazes me how these guys survive with their lack of customer service...  I really feel for people who have gone through the upgrade process... because... if you get the speeds... enjoy them.  Because sooner or later they are going to have a system glitch and it will take you weeks to get back to your normal speeds.

  3. All it usually takes is one lighting strike to fry someone's equipment and then they swear by UPS systems.  For me, I had a friend that got his home system and office laptop fried about six months ago.  I asked him if he had a UPS or, at the very least, a good surge protector... NOPE... and what is funny about that... he is a Systems Engineer for our company.

I use them on all my computers at home... plus... and I know this is crazy... but I also use it for my Big Screen and home entertainment equipment.  Hey... that stuff isn't cheap.

    Cheers,

  4. KC...

Yeah, I was sweating the sprinkler system myself... but got lucky.  I have a run that goes right along where they had marked to bury the fiber.  Luckily... I was at home when the crew came out to bury it... I had them move about 10 inches further out and everything ended up OK.

Sorry to hear about your install... that would have driven me nuts.

    Cheers,

    Ronnie

  5. For those of us who have been lucky enough to have FIOS installed...  please share your experience.

Mine, was great.  I had already run Cat 6 cable from my PC area to where the ONT was going to be placed.  The installers were great and really excited that I had probably cut two hours out of their install.  I ended up staying outside and talking to them the whole install and they pretty well let me do everything inside... even configure the router and setup.  They just stood over my shoulder and told me what to do.

They had another crew come by towards the end and we had five techs in my room while I was doing speed test.  The funny part of the deal was one of the techs was explaining how I needed to enable security on my wireless... I told him as soon as they left he wouldn't even be able to see my connection... so we had a challenge going.  He said if he could see it he would come back to the house... he drove by and was out there about five minutes... honked and drove off.  Great guys!!!

  6. No... actually Project Lightspeed will be fiber to the node.  Then their plans are to offer ADSL2 from the node to your home at speeds equal to or higher than Verizon is offering with FIOS.  They already have trials going on in Missouri, and I believe, California.

Verizon has really caused SBC to speed up their trials and delivery.  We shall see... stay turned.  :)

  7. I am really glad I am finally away from these guys...  as mentioned ealier... I just cancelled my service and went back to Verizon.  The last straw was yesterday... they came out to disconnect my service... which I had already done... so my daughter calls me and says Comcast is here to pick up their modem.  So I am laughing and she puts the technician on the phone... I told him I would be very glad to sell him MY modem... but I have never rented a modem from them.

No problem he said... and left.  How screwed up is that...  :? :? :?

  8. hupp3l...

It is starting to sound like you have a bad router... if it is a verizon supplied I would get on the phone with them.  I will send you my cablenut settings when I get home this evening.

  9. Fenix...

Welcome to the site....  The only way I got my FIOS was having them check my address.  My phone number today, and I have FIOS, shows me not being available.  They are a little slow getting the numbers updated in their database, however, the addresses seem to come up faster.  Try it that way...  Sorry you are having those issues.

    Regards,

    Ronnie

  10. hupp3l...

OK... here is my suggestion.  Do a google search for the program WinsockXPFix and run that... I am told that doing the repair option when  you right click on your network adapter does the same thing.

    Remove the cablenut software.... reboot

    Get TCPOptimizer...

Your TCP Receive Window 307284 and then on the right yes, no, yes options and in the TCP 1323 option box.. . put a check in the windows scaling box... be sure to set your Max MTU to 1492.

That is what I am running... and get ~15550 down and ~1.78 up.  I have gotten as high as 15870 down and 1.8 up.  Once you get this range then you can start tweaking up from there.

This is how I am set up and it works for me... BTW..  I am running the DI-624 with the latest firmware.  Good luck!!!

I sincerely know how frustrating this can be.

    Regards,

    Ronnie

  11. I have had Comcast for over (3) years and just recently... like (2) weeks ago had Verizon FIOS become available.  Comcast is by far the worst company I have ever dealt with on customer service... and I don't blame the CSR's... but their management in general.

For the most part... my service was very consistent and I usually got better than advertised speeds.  But I went through both upgrades and they were complete nightmares.  That is where the real frustration comes into play... I have spent the past twenty years in the data communications field and I really have a problem when these guys won't budge from their script.  It was always something on my end... or our speeds are not guaranteed.  Well... when I go from ~6300 down on a consistent basis to ~4800... then there IS a problem and it's not on my end.  Really glad that is all behind me now.

I wish you the best of luck with these guys...

  12. You know... it is funny what we take for granted... with FIOS... I enjoy working from home because there isn't a whole lot of difference in speeds.  And I work for SBC.

But I do understand what you mean... I have been traveling more in my current position and having to RAS in from the hotels is a nightmare... fortunately, a couple of the hotels I stay at have pretty decent wireless access.

  13. GernBlanston, a Verizon tech, mentioned it in one of the DHCP threads Verizon FIOS forum on dslreports.com.  It was a passing comment so there is very little basis but we can keep our fingers crossed.

Yes, I have seen many of Gerns post on dslreports... didn't realize he was a Verizon Tech.  Yeah... dropping PPOE would be great... but I am not holding my breath.

    Cheers,

    Ronnie
