  1. I doubt very seriously that Comcast is rolling out another upgrade. They are not even done with the current upgrade and there is no reason to give us more bandwidth yet. I know there are some areas that have faster broadband than Comcast but those areas are very few and far between. Right now Comcast is the big dog around the country and until DSL rolls out faster speeds all over the country Comcast will coast comfortably. Now I know there are a few markets where Fios and some others have faster packages but like I said it is just a few spots. I can't wait for the faster packages so I will keep an ear to the ground. I still have friends at the local HE and NOC so I'll post when I hear any good news.
  2. I haven't had any probs at all I'm sorry to hear you are but ever since they upgraded my area I've been getting solid numbers. :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 6287 Kbps about 6.3 Mbps (tested with 12160 kB) Download Speed is:: 767 kB/s Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/ Test Time:: Tue Mar 29 2005 17:38:52 GMT-0600 (Central Standard Time) Bottom Line:: 112X faster than 56K 1MB download in 1.34 sec Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 92.79 % faster than the average for host (comcast.net) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-1U40WDZ3Y
  3. 6000/768 I'm in Nashville TN and here's mine :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 6287 Kbps about 6.3 Mbps (tested with 12160 kB) Download Speed is:: 767 kB/s Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/ Test Time:: Tue Mar 29 2005 17:38:52 GMT-0600 (Central Standard Time) Bottom Line:: 112X faster than 56K 1MB download in 1.34 sec Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 92.79 % faster than the average for host (comcast.net) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-1U40WDZ3Y
  4. 6000/768 I couldn't imagine not utilizing Comcasts full bandwidth offers. When they up it again I'll probably utilize it as well.
  5. When I worked at Comcast and it's been 3 years since then I had uncapped access and I had speeds of 10 to 15 megs a second down and around 2/3 to all of that figure up. So you can see that cable is not utilizing even 1/3 or their bandwidth right now. I think it will be sometime before we see fiber up to our door but when we do the only limits then will be the big pipes and you know they are up to 100 megs a sec and even faster. That means you could dl a cd in 7 secs or less.... WOW When that happens then you will see the beginning of the end of TV the way it is right now. It will still come thru a cable signal but it will most likely be delivered to some sort of a computer for viewing rather than our conventinoal TV sets as they are now. So they could compete right now if they wanted to so if FIOS does come to your area I would expect Comcast to try to compete sooner or later. Just my guess but I'm sure this is 10 yrs down the road.
  6. It's not to bad but it looks like your on the silver tier because your speed is arounf 4 megs a sec and the silver tier is 4000/384. If you know for sure you are on the gold tier then do an upload test and lets see what it is. Something else could be holding your speeds down.
  7. It looks like something is holding your speed down a little. My speed was that way when I was running thru my linksys router. After running straight from my modem (sb4100) here ae my results. :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 6232 Kbps about 6.2 Mbps (tested with 12160 kB) Download Speed is:: 761 kB/s Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/ Test Time:: Tue Mar 29 2005 17:05:57 GMT-0600 (Central Standard Time) Bottom Line:: 111X faster than 56K 1MB download in 1.35 sec Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 91.11 % faster than the average for host (comcast.net) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-7E0GH14P6 _______________________________________________________________________ and here is my upload test :::.. Upload Stats ..::: Connection is:: 695 Kbps about 0.7 Mbps (tested with 579 kB) Upload Speed is:: 85 kB/s Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/ Test Time:: Tue Mar 29 2005 17:10:16 GMT-0600 (Central Standard Time) Bottom Line:: 12X faster than 56K 1MB upload in 12.05 sec Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 103.81 % faster than the average for host (comcast.net) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-V653CJPM7 So I would say something some where is not set right
  8. Well here's another old fart I'm 50, but I feel like I'm 90 oops I mean 19 LOL. I'm new here and I love the age diversety. Some of us older folks can give some of our experience and hopefully help some younger folks. Then on the other end I hope some of the younger folks can give us older folks a fresh prospective and help us to remember we were young once too.. I just wanna learn and help all I can and keep up on the latest tech stuff. So lets help each other
  9. Well I'm definitely crazy so I should fit right in. Thanx for all of the welcome posts. I love your guys description of the owner of the board. I thought all of those Nazi Eskimos were rounded up in the late 80's and put in Folsom prison and they all have the blues. I wonder how he got away
  10. Hi folks I just wanted to stop in and say howdy. I just joined today and am looking forward to reading a lot and posting. I took my first speed test and the best one was this one. :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 5897 Kbps about 5.9 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB) Download Speed is:: 720 kB/s Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/ Test Time:: Sun Mar 13 2005 19:31:15 GMT-0600 (Central Standard Time) Bottom Line:: 105X faster than 56K 1MB download in 1.42 sec Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 86.97 % faster than the average for host (comcast.net) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-IE29Z870P So I'm very happy with the test although I do know speed tests are not always exact. I did a upload test and it showed 705 up which is also very close to my advertised speed of 6000/768. I'm in Nashville and I use to work for Comcast until I became disabled a couple of years ago. (don't hold that against me everybody needs a job! LOL) Well nice to meet you folks and I'll be busy reading all of these posts
