I see that IP that you see at whatismyip.com. For some reason when I test though, it shoulds like a 128.11 number or something, only two octets.
-
Which router do you have? I have a Netgear WGR614v6 and when I would connect my modem through that, my speeds went from 20mb/s down to about 13mb/s. I updated its firmware and all is well now.
-
Yeah I would think you could get more out of a 15mb/s line than 8mb/s.
Run this test and post the link here for us to look at, maybe you have some wrong settings or something. Also check the sticky in the forum and answer as many questions as you can in your next post.
-
When I take the speed test without my router plugged in I get the correct host of RCN.com to compare to. When I use my router, since the IP address is different, it compares it to something else and not RCN. Is there any way to get this number tied to RCN somehow?
-
15mb/s should give you at least 1.7MB/s when you download.
If you download this file, what speed are you getting when it's 50% done?
-
So what is the speed like on wifi? My PDA gets around 800kb/s.
-
what type of connection do you have? I have a 1Mbit upload and the results I get are right in line with that.

(though I'm running a little slow right now, but that's because there is an upload going on with one of my other computers).
Give me some more info about your connection adn who your provider is... and watch out with the mirror results. Those servers are donated and if the persons server is down or having problems your results will be off.
I'm in the middle of transfering the site off the two current servers onto one monster server, so after that transfer is done (they just got my server online and I'll be spending the weekend getting everything squared away) you may want to retest. So look for a highly visable notice on the front page talking about this.

My ISP is RCN, it's cable, and my caps are 20000/2000. I'll watch for the announcement about the new server.

I guess I'll post one from Server 1 and one from the NYC server mirror just for the hell of it.

Did you try it in Firefox?
-
Yeah it's consistent, but it's consistently wrong Every other test I do says 1900 minimum for the upload, and I've sent things to people at those speeds so I know the other tests aren't incorrect. It's not that big of a deal, I just wondered if I was alone.
-
It seems the best I can pull on this site is 800kb/s when in reality I'm around 2000kb/s. The download test is fine.

So do I now, without an upload speed browsing sucks. I had no choice but to sit with the 22kb/s though.

Here is a ping with my new connection. This is while uploading a video too so they may be lower if I wasn't doing anything.

Thanks It's amazing what an upload speed does to your web browsing experience, everything is like lightning now.

First day with two way from RCN. I was only going half speed download wise until I realized I was probably still running 10mb/s in my NIC settings, so I changed that to 100 Full and bingo, over 20mb/s.

I won't post the upload from testmy.net because it is WAY low, but here are other tests.

So tomorrow I should be around 20mb/s, but this is the highest result I've gotten so far. I'm supposed to be getting 3mb/s but I know a tech and he got me a little more because he empathized with my one way situation.

If I actually do a ping I get these results on my craptastic one way.

Yeah, I know some techs that work for RCN and even they said they can't believe it took this long for me to get upgraded. I was so close to dropping them because I couldn't deal with the 2KB/s upload anymore.
I guess I'll change my TCP Receive Window now since I'm bored.
-
It's more like dial up 1.5. I download fast but it uses the 56K modem to send data, so I upload at dial up speed while I download at cable speeds. Thursday will change all that though.

Sucks, but that's dial up latency for you on crappy BB service. I'll re-do this on Thursday when I get my kickass connection.

I wonder if anyone remembers me? Probably not. I have RCN for an ISP and have been stuck on what they call "one way" for over 6 years. Essentially that means that while I download at 8500+kb/s, I upload at 22kb/s because one way still uses a 56K modem in order to send data.
Well last week they called me to let me know that I finally have access to two way which means I will be trucking along at 20mb/s down and 2mb/s up. It's going to be a HUGE change. Not only that, but one way still uses the phone line for obvious reasons so I've been having to connect and disconnect whenever I want to start and stop surfing.
This right now is like being on dial up 1.5 because of how crappy it's been. I'll be sure to post some speed tests in the other forum once I get set up, they'll be here Thursday.

9mb/s down, shit up. I have RCN one way and pay about $50 a month.
Is the upload test inaccurate for anyone else?

Just for fun I tested to make sure I was actually getting 2mb/s uploads by uploading a movie to Youtube. Sure enough I am.
