  1. I'm not complaining with my download. I'm happy with that!! Now, if I could just get more than '6 times faster than 56K' on my upload speed..... :::.. Upload Stats ..::: Connection is: 327 Kbps about 0.3 Mbps (tested with 97 KB) Upload Speed is: 40 KB/sec Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/ Bottom Line: 6 times faster than 56K you can upload 1MB in 25.6 second(s) Validation Link :: https://testmy.net/cgi-bin/get.cgi?Test_ID=IQ0VGGCKH

  3. Does this count? :::.. 4. As you can see from my speeds above, I'm more than happy with my Cox service here in S.Cal. My question is this.I'm currently running W98SE on an "Old" Dell P-II 350 w/one of the original motorola modems that cox provided when I 1st started my service 4 yrs ago. If I upgrade my equipment to a new P4 2 gig PC as opposed to my old P-II 350,will it have any effects on my speeds?
  5. I love my Cox connection is S. Cal. ::: Download Stats ::: Connection is: 5305 Kbps about 5.3 Mbps (tested with 1496 KB) Download Speed is: 648 KB/sec Auth Code: 2079576 (validate at http://www.testmy.net) Bottom Line: 95 times faster than 56K you can download 1MB in 1.58 second(s) Validation Link :: https://testmy.net/cgi-bin/auth_check.cgi?ta=&top=&align=&num=2079576&kbps=5305&gen=gen&a=2.85714285714286&b=1.71428571428571&c=1145.14285714286 Can't beat it.
  6. I've found that the only "adjustment" that's made any difference to my speeds, almost regardless of what I do, is by adjusting the RWIN. Nothing else I've done makes much of a difference With Cox cable in S.Cal.,I get the following; ::: Download Stats ::: Connection is: 4456 Kbps about 4.5 Mbps (tested with 1496 KB) Download Speed is: 544 KB/sec Auth Code: 2066841 (validate at http://www.testmy.net) Bottom Line: 80 times faster than 56K you can download 1MB in 1.88 second(s) Validation Link :: https://testmy.net/cgi-bin/auth_check.cgi?ta=&top=&align=&num=2066841&kbps=4456&gen=gen&a=17.7142857142857&b=1.14285714285714&c=1145.14285714286 I guess I can't complain
  7. Cox isn't providing any specials on Modems these days. The only discounts I've seen is when you purchase them at a Best Buy,C-City and only when you start a new account. Nothing for current customers. I did notice that they have a space for "PROMOTION CODES" when purchasing a modem directly from Cox. If anybody knows of any "Codes" that may be of some help, I'd be very thankful. I do have a $20 off coupon for the Toshiba PCX2200 Modem. Does anyone have any knowledge of that model? Is it as good as the Motorola 5100 mentioned above? I've heard those (Motorola) mentioned more often. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Brentskie
  8. I have one of "the old modems",one of the original cybersurf modems as during a recent conversation with tech support,I was told that I "should" have gotten notice that my old surfboard modem was going to phased out "in the near future" and that the newer modem would be required Would that be a DOCSIS-2 modem or maybe my modem isn't DOCSIS at all. Could that be it?
  9. I use Cox here in Southern Calif. and still have the old surfboard modem that I got 3 yrs ago when I first signed up. I understand that Cox may be requiring people to upgrade to the new DOCSIS modems in the near future but have heard that some modems actually SLOW their speeds down while others, if not increasing speeds, at least don't make things worse. Any suggestions on brands and models would be greatly appreciated. (If this should be posted in another area please let me know.) Thank you
  10. mine basically sucks; ::: Upload Stats ::: Connection is: 328 Kbps about 0.3 Mbps (tested with 97 KB) Upload Speed is: 40 KB/sec Auth Code: 254921 (validate a http://www.testmy.net) Bottom Line: 6 times faster than 56K you can upload 1MB in 25.6 second(s) Validation Link :: https://testmy.net/cgi-bin/auth_check.cgi?ta=&top=&num=254921&kbps=328&gen=gen&a=14.8571428571429&b=0&c=1145.14285714286 Could someone please help to clue me in as to how I might go about increasing my upload speeds?

    speed optimizers

In reading your piece above, I saw that you mentioned that in Tuscon,AZ. Cox allows users higher speeds than their "advertised speeds", or in your words "letting you have more bandwidth than advertised because they want you to tell all of your friends and since they don't have the customer base that they intend to have they have a little extra bandwidth to throw around, why not use it for marketing." Now does that mean though your caps are 3000 down and 256 up,Cox allows users 'higher' download speeds, maybe up to 4Mbps or somewhere in that area, or am I mistaken? I live in Calif. and in looking at the 4 primary speedtests that BBR supports, most cox users both here, and at "a lot" of the other cities they provide service for, seem to allow most users higher than the 3Mbps 'promised' speeds. This is based only from those Cox customers who post their speeds in those forums. There seem to be a lot more customers with speeds higher than 3Mb than lower.Again, this is only from those who post their speeds based on the 4 speedtests provided by BBR. Is it for that same reason; to provide a "little extra bandwidth" to keep their customers happy, and so that their client base grows? I know that SBC(PacBell)DSL is their main competition here, and while their speeds top out at 1500, their prices are lower as well. Maybe we're just lucky here in Calif. that Cox, more often than not, keeps their promise on providing 'up to' their advertised speeds Since you are a knowledgeable Cox person, I figure that you know more than most about this subject. I'd appreciate hearing your views regarding Cox's position on their 'promised' speeds, and what they actually provide, here in Calif., in AZ, and in the other areas they serve. Your thoughts and opinions on this subject would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much. Bertski
