I heard there was a possibility of me overclocking my system. Would this help?

For some reason, my computer is terribly slow. Upon comparing with my roommate, we decided that it couldn't be my hardware, since my computer is newer than his. Also, since we're both on the same college network, it isn't just the network's fault. For some reason, his computer hardly seems to ever have to load much, can torrent much faster than mine, and can watch Youtube videos without giving the videos a 10 minute buffer. Something is seriously wrong with my computer. Help please.
