  3. 1.  Sometimes download tests on Testmy.net have hanged.  If by hanging up you mean it will start the percentage bar, and then pause at say 18% for a second or two and then continue on.  And yes the readings were lower if the test did pause.

    2.  I do have XP.  And I have read that post, I wasn't able to find anything that would affect my performance though.  (CCleaner helps fix those problems)

    3.  Here is a paste of my settings.

  4. Tier 2 woman said "Crap, your connection is horrible".  I said "Thanks, I know".  Anywho they're going to send someone else out on Tuesday. Said they would probably replace the cable lines in the house.  House is only 6 years old, but they said sometimes the contractors use the cheapest of the cheap.  So we'll see how that goes.  She said the problem is packet loss before it even gets to the modem.  So with that conclusion, I guess I can quit trying to fix it through tweaks

Obviously better from the other day.  I've had a couple of tests get to 8.0 and then I have some tests that don't get out of the 5's.  Why am I seeing the inconsistency?

Here's my speakeasy results from the Atlanta server (I'm in Nashville).

  9. Ok.  Comcast man just left.  He checked the box outside, there was an old splitter on there which he replaced with a new one, and the entire box was soaking wet.  The cables that he replaced had rust in them.  He told me to wait about an hour before testing it (he was going to call comcast and have them do some things first) then try it.  I'll post the results in an hour.  I hope this fixes it!

  10. Oh well I've got one more question too.  We just moved in June to the new house we're in now.  I have never had Comcast come out to this house before, I set the internet up myself.  I know there is a box outside on the side of the house that controls the frequencies of the different cable lines coming into the house, and I think the cable modem is supposed to be on the highest frequencies.  So what do the different frequencies mean?  And how big of a difference will it make for my cable modem to be on the higher frequency?
