I hate thoes damn aol commericals, they make it seem that they're the only ones offering spam/virus blocker and that you have to get them. its so funny  and when you try to cancel the service they offer you 6 months free as a bribe, I know someone who got over a year of free service

WTF, I'm back with the same problem, just like yesterday as soon as it hits 6pm, I lose connection after 5min it comes back on with a bandwidth of 2Mbps. I tried everything that you said, but I stil have the problem. When I connect directly to the cable modem, my bandwidth is fine, so it has to be my router.

That's weird, I tested my bandwidth this morning with the router and its back to normal, but I still reset the router back to default just incase. Do you think its getting over heated or something? Thanks for the help peepnklown , BTW is this normal (Terayon TJ715 Diagnostics Page):

Today my bandwidth was really low. I found out when I'm directly connected to the modem my bandwidth is from 4.3 to 4.8 Mbps but when I'm connected through the router my bandwidth is from 1.8 to 2.2 Mbps. I have two computers and one xbox on the router. I don't know what is causing this problem. Can anyone help?

I dont think its the DNS Servers, every 30 min I see the cable light blink and I lose connection

no dont use ports 6881 - 6999 there are black listed be most trackers and some isp. Use anyrhing else beside those for exaple, 52525

it could be your firewall or router. Connect you computer directly to the dsl/cable modem and turn off you firewall (u wont get haxd....) and see if you still have the same problem

You don't have to install any software for your router nor your cable modem on your second computer. I don't think you even need to install them on the first computer, except for usb drivers.

I have a Linksys BEFSR41 Version 2 with 1.46.02, Aug 03 2004 firmware, I'm just wondering what is the most stable (not many issues) firmware for this model.

you can do that, go to your router page and change it, i think they call it static dns, good luck

this thing, but if I choose this option, wouldn't I have to make my IP static too? Comcast allows static IP??

yes I know your problem, Comcast is having Nation wide DNS server issues. Just change you DNS sever and everything will be fine.

Q: How do I change what DNS server my computer uses? (#8164)

A: Note: Instructions below are for Windows 2000, XP and 2003 users only. For a complete set of instructions for multiple operating systems, including screenshots, please visit the ORSC website. Additionally, if you are behind a router, you may have to change DNS settings using the router configuration utility. Please consult your user manual.

To change DNS servers:

o Right click on the My Network Places icon on the desktop and select Properties. (If the icon is not available, go to Start menu | My Computer | My Network Places | View Network Connections.)

o Locate the network connection that is associated with your Internet connection. This may be labeled something like "Local Area Connection." If you have more than one connection to choose from, be sure you determine the right one before proceeding.

o Right click on the appropriate connection and select Properties.

o In the list that appears under the General tab, double click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).

o In the window that appears, you want to select the option to Use the following DNS server addresses...

At this point you will want to enter at least one of your personal preferred DNS servers. There are a number of public servers suggested by members of the Comcast forum; simply do a search for 'DNS' and you should get adequate results. o Press Ok out of all windows until you are back to the Network Connections window. You can now open your web browser and browse to a website to see if it connects faster.

As you all know comcast is having some dns server issues, I changed my dns server to 4.2.2.1 and now everything works great. But I have one question, is there a way to plug to dns server into the router and so all the computers on the lan uses it? Or do I just have to go to each computer and change it through XP in Internet Protocal TCP/IP Properties?

yeah depends on the torrent, when there are alot of seeders/leechors I usually get around 300-400kb/s

Does it matter what kind of 2-way splitter you have on the line that goes to cable modem? Like some say 900MHz or 1000MHz or 2.3GHz. Would having a higher one give a higher signal and maybe increasing the bandwidth?
