Yikes! About the same chance of me winning the lotto as getting that..
:haha:
-
Hmmm, 8x faster, got my attention too..
I hope the price isn't equally incremental with the speed..
-
You guys do know there is one slower group you could be picking on if you get bored, the dial-group.
Tommie,
These guys with land lines still don't get it. When we're up at our summer camp site in the Sierras, it's 20 miles to the nearest power line. Cell phones don't even work unless I take the ATV up on top of a 9000' elevation mountain. With two 75 watt solar panels Satellite is our only link to civilization, only DW or Sirius radio baby!
Maybe one of those High Speed Cable sissies could plug their modem into a tree and do a speed test.. :haha:
-
Out here in Nevada our Verizon phone company is a third world operation. They are still using old copper pole hung wire here so no DSL yet. Cable has been here 15 years but just recently upgraded so I could finally get 3000/256.
Up until satellite internet I paid $80 a month to have dialup. For me satellite was cheaper than dialup.
The reason, I had to rent a pair of wires over to an exchange with local AOL service. Try that for 10 year$..
-
Yep, it just comes down to money. If WB can make it there might be a satellite expansion. Terribly expen$ive business...
-
Nice to see you guys still getting fairly good stats for satellite. I noticed NOC hasn't figured a way to throttle the download on 4000 units yet.
Sure would be nice to maintain the speeds we had in the 7000 beta testing at 600 up and 2000 down all day long.. We know it can be done and in excess of cable speeds but sadly the transponders get touchy with that much exchange. I see the Wild Blue folks have finally dropped into reality..

I haven't turned the DW modem on for about 3 months. I noticed it just updated the software and rebooted and the upload isn't all that bad. My signal is only 76 now, was 82..

Cable has been pretty good for me. I do a lot of bank and CC transactions so I need a backup and DW fits the bill. One good thing about DW is that if everything in the street goes down, with a generator and satellite I'm still in contact with the outside world.
-
I been slammed at work. I did notice tonight that https sites now work great with DW. Wonder what NOS did to help that?
-
I haven't been on DW for a long while, use it for backup if cable goes south. 7700 on consumer plan.

No problem Tommie.. IMO, it's just the nature of the beast when it involves long distance satellite connections. People are earnestly looking for a better connection. In fact, so earnestly they will believe any magical solution that comes along.
Next it will Minister Farrakhan dropping in.

DirecWay's speed test sucks...
I'll agree to that. But we can't post anything NEGATIVE here, even if it is the truth, without being called a BULLEY..

I believe the REVEREND wanted people to believe he was helping them. Sounds like he convinced you.
The good part of REVERENDS work, if not all was borrowed from other boards, written by people that went to a lot of hard work gathering that information. I can't blame the guy for trying..
-
He claims that one of the REVEREND's followers gave it to him asking for a donation. I'm guessing that Rev was running out of money on the big Costa Rica estate. Opening up a church is a cash cow.
-
BTW, this summer when I was talking to The Rev, he recommended that I switch to Wildblue... He said he "wasn't allowed" to tell me much about it
I've always wondered why everything REVEREND knew was always in secret. I hope he doesn't find out my good friend knew about his new web site.. :haha: If you ask me he's just trying to raise money...
-
Slower I was hoping for a more honest or straight forward response. If he was working on something that may be able to be advances then it may be worth taking a look at. If you are just talking S#!t, that is another thing.

I heard that DW was building components on a small island in the Caribbean with cheap labor over on Reverends old forum. Did anybody else see this?
They also said that Reverend could jump start an ATM and plug it into an old Volkswagon hubcap and get on the internet in under 1 minute! That last one sounds a little far out to me....
I also heard that he had a new church website somewhere???/
-
How do you trip a vacuum relay? Might actually help me out if you would. And what did that do for you actually, please explain!
All I know is what I read on the internet. The Reverend was working in Costa Rica on some kind of a doomsday clock to tweak settings on electrical relays. From what I understand that's how he made such good progress with the DW6000. He runs his relays in a dielectric medium that is much more efficient than what DW uses. DW's relays are manufactured with slave labor in a poor country to save money, so they just can't hold signal..
Unlike Hitler, the Reverend is still alive, and I agree, he will be back....
-
Just to give a congrats to the Rev's work. Kind of like Hitler, he might of gotten run off, but he did build one heck of a Volkswagen!
Also I wanted to pull this a little closer to the top so it could help a few more folks out here. Plus I was tired of having to dig so far to get the info for other folks!
An update on the Rev settings. DW tells me that I tripped a vacuum relay in the 6000 using the Reverends settings. Soooo, I

There's always hope M16.. Charter upgraded lines last summer and I'm on Charter now at 256 up and 3mb down. I'll stay off DW and give you people more bandwidth.
-
Charter has been having monumental problems with their e-mail server lately. From what I can find out the problems won't go away soon. I've transferred all my important mail to other mail providers.
-
Probably too many folks using the Reverends settings and knocking all of us offline. I heard he has a new secret program to neutralize the action of the first program and put the DW user back on top.. I'll have to do a goggle when my connection comes back up..
DW 4000 capped?
