  1. I was just wondering did everything (hardware wise) work properly after the format. I assume you loaded it with a retail version of XP. I am a Sony tech and I have a lot of people that call in after installing a clean copy of XP and there are all kinds of problems with drivers and everything. I just hope everything worked out I personally have 2 VGNFS790's and a VGNFS8900 they are great computers but I agree there is way too much stuff on the computer when you first get it. Norton is the first thing I go and uninstall ick!

I'm not sure if it was an accident or what but I pay $39.95 now instead of $45.00 before. I think I'm still paying too much though.
  3. right I do realize this because the card can only handle 11 MB speeds no more but I have the intel 2200 BG wireless card in my HP and it can handle the G speeds...but even at 802.11B it should be able to handle 1.4 MB with me only 2 feet from the router.
  4. I do use both at the same time but I have wireless disabled on the B router.
  5. I live in a pretty rural area my nearest neighbor is 1/4 of a mile away. I was just thinking that someone may have had something else that could interfer with my connection. I now have speeds that are excellent so I have NO idea what happened but I guess with a good router 1/4th of a mile may could have interference. I do have to say the people I live by are pretty tech savy so I will try to change the channel if things start up again but right now things are perfect.
  6. oops sorry about that I wasn't sure if should just be in help with test since it was freezing on loading webpages as well as the test and file downloads, but anywho whatever was causing the issue has now gone. I was seeing speeds of 145 kB/sec max now I am seeing speeds of 175 kB/sec (which seems almost impossible with the overhead for the PPPoE DSL line) but I guess it was some type of interference. Other than 2.4 GHz cordless phones and radar detectors does anyone else know of anything that could cause havoic for a wireless connection? Also here is my speed test that shows everything back to normal (well actually BETTER than normal
  7. I need help please guys, I have an hp dv1000 and so far it's a really good notebook except for one problem. When I go to do a speed test on this site or if I download a file it freezes and my speed on downloads can go from 160 KB/sec (my normal speed) to 24 KB/sec then go back up to 140 KB/sec and fluctuate between the two throughout the entire download. When I connect via ethernet I have none of these problems. I did a spyware/virus scan just incase and found nothing. I do have 2.4 cordless phones but in desperation I took the batteries out and unpluged the base and I still have the same issue. I have two routers both Linksys. One is an 802.11b and the other 802.11g both routers have the same thing and even in other areas I have the same issue (I took it to work to test it). So far I have uninstalled and reinstalled the wireless card, updated drivers, did a recovery, and finally ran van burdens cablenut settings for my 1500/256 DSL speed and so far nothing has worked. I'm at my witts end and I REALLY REALLY do NOT want to call HP's nonsupport line for help. Thanks a million in advance.

    How's this

woo mine is nice today I am about 300 Kbps above my cap (btw also in upload so maybe I have my upgrade!)
  9. I had a bit of technical problems. I got the video just fine but there is no audio! I found out that my creative sound blaster just died on me...that's my luck finally got my all in wonder to work only to loose my sound card I can still host the video if you like and I will be hosting them on the webspace I got from my ISP so I can only host them for a short time if you still want me to
  10. I'm the member willing to post the commercials! Thanks to Swimmer I can...lol got my all in wonder up and running and now I just need a place to host em...I may can use my server but it will be for a very short time because I have limited bandwith
  11. yes I'm glad we got it up and running I'm not totally stupid...lol I've built my own computers in the past but NEVER ran across a problem this bad before I am just glad I got it running today now I can record the superbowl and burn it to DVD ! I just want to thank Swimmer again for taking time to help me with this!
  12. ok that is what my manual says as well to install the card then the drivers. I will update to SP2 and let you know how it goes thanks for the help.
  13. sorry about that now I have a fresh windows SP1 install with no other software at all installed other than the updated ATI drivers and AGP driver and I installed the card before the drivers (perhaps this is the problem?) Yes in the manual it says to get the latest motherboard AGP chipset drivers which I have done.
  14. I have tried to do that before and after I reformatted. At one point I did get it to work but upon reboot I was unable to get it to work or recreate the same.
  15. Hi, I'm unable to correctly install the drivers for my new ATI all in wonder card. I have completely installed all parts of my old Nvida and have upgraded my chipset for my AGP slot and installed the lastest ATI drivers. I have also completely reformatted my computer and started over to no avail. I think I have narrowed it down to the capture drivers because when I install the display drivers everything is fine. I run into problems as soon as I try to install the capture drivers at which time I get "We apologize for the inconvenience but Windows did not start successfully" and when I do a last known good then everything is fine but of course the drivers are installed. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance
  16. yes more than likely you bought sdram (more common) I'm not sure about your HP but I just bought my brother an HP 4 months ago and his uses DDR ram so I'm sure that was your problem to begin with...and good luck trying to find the exact type...I had to call up HP non support and talked to sales (go figure) to find out what type of memory I had in my compaq notebook
  17. Also since you said you had speed boost the router is 802.11g correct? I am unsure at the real world levels for 802.11g but I do know that the highest I've ever saw on 802.11b was 6 MB...although it normally levels out around 5.6 MB so if you are using an 802.11b router and have a 10 MB connection the your speeds are going to be cut in half...also your speed depends on how far you are from your router...
  18. yes when you test with the 579 KB test it is just a burst speed which makes your speed look a lot faster than it really is...the 2992 KB file is much more accurate and shows your true speed...I've tried to tell people this in the past but they just ignore me...so just keep testing with the 579 KB and living in the dream world...now install sun java and test at broadbandreports.com and you will have an AMAZING upload speed as well...
  19. sure do...don't download so much...and if you do get the BE of DirecWay that's $99 a month and I think another $1000 in installation charges for another (bigger) dish...also you could get Starband which has no FAP...but if you stay on the consumer plan you are on you are pretty much screwed....it limits you to 169 MB every 4 hours....and refills at a rate of around 45 (I think) Kbps so that means if you keep downloading you will stay FAPPED longer...best thing to do is just walk away from your PC and watch tv or something
  20. I don't guess it could hurt...when I had DirecWay I had the DW6000 (back when it was actually useful) I only used a DW4000 once when I helped to setup a network for a friend...I also wonder if mabey they changed you to a different transponder as well when making all of the changes...I would try another version of software and try a system restore to about 2 weeks before the mix up.
  21. did they have you upgrade your software for your DW4000? If so then you may want to switch to the current version you were running prior to the "upgrade" I know in some later versions of the software websetup could be ran without a phoneline but that came at a cost...mainly speed.
  22. I'm now on DSL 1500/256 I did have DirecWay just a few months ago and so far I haven't heard of any tweaks for the DW6000 since the software is controlled by DirecWay at the NOC...sorry
  23. use the 2992 KB test I bet it will be much slower...even though I have saw some awesome speeds (for DirecWay) with the DW6000 (when I first installed I had 1500 kb then went to around 900 kb avg) when I do a 579 KB test I get very fast results (aka a burst) :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 1786 Kbps about 1.8 Mbps (tested with 579 KB) Download Speed is:: 218 KB/s Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/ Bottom Line:: 32 times faster than 56K you can download 1MB in 4.7 second(s) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/cgi-bin/get.cgi?Test_ID=923S8WK56 however when I try a speed test using the 2992 KB test I get my normal real world speeds :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 1421 Kbps about 1.4 Mbps (tested with 2992 KB) Download Speed is:: 173 KB/s Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/ Bottom Line:: 25 times faster than 56K you can download 1MB in 5.92 second(s) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/cgi-bin/get.cgi?Test_ID=FJZ9XI42L next time try the largest (2992 KB) test it will more accuratly show your true scores.
  24. It's real and already out in a few places...keller texas is one town that comes to mind (also check broadbandreports.com and go to the Verizon forum to see pics, speed test and areas with FIOS)...I wish Verizon would have stayed my Telco...we were GTE bought out by Verizon then bought out by CenturyTel...if Verizon was still my telco I would most likely not have DSL now but at least I would get FIOS in the future.
  25. eh it sucks but I'm lucky to have speeds like this after Direcway :::..
