  1. I was looking on newegg at motherboards just for interest and ended up in motherboards section.

    In the slot wheere it says agp slots i noticed it  had 8x and 8x pro agp.

    Whats the difference? Say, does it relate to cards?

    Ex. would you need a mb with 8x pro just to run a video card thats pro (9800 pro, 9600 pro etc....)?

  2. with the state the school system is in i guess we should be glad there's students out there that know what a map of the us looks like in the first class, much less ones that are able to make the leap of imagination to recognize a similar shape.

  4. A month ago or so i installed cablenut and dr.tcp and ran the tweak test at dslreports and filled in dr.tcp. I also used cablenut settings for dsl 1.5 down/368 up. Before i tweaked i got 150KB/s (1200Kb/s) and after the tweaks i got at around 156KB/s (1264Kb/s). But it had its bad sides like bursts and slow downs. So i reset everything default on dr.ctp and removed cablenut settings and was happy with speed.

    But recently i've been getting worse and worse speeds. Nowdays i run at around 130 KB/s (1000 Kb/s) and some pages load slow. Im wondering if there is any way i can improve it. Is there any way to make shure EVERY change dr.ctp and cablenut did are gone? I mean i did everything i could to remove them. I would also like to know where i can find the cablenut settings since myne were deleted.

    Here is a testmy.net speedtest:

    :::.. Download Stats ..:::

    Connection is:: 1279 Kbps about 1.3 Mbps (tested with 2992 KB)

    Download Speed is:: 156 KB/s

    Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/

    Bottom Line:: 23 times faster than 56K you can download 1MB in 6.56 second(s)

    Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/cgi-bin/get.cgi?Test_ID=TFBT353EF

    Althrough it might say im getting nice speeds on this speedtest, when i hit a download from the internet i start over 200-300 KB/s (huge burst) and slowly crawl down to 130s. I also download from mirrors that i used to get good speeds off of. I've tryed many different downloads, but i get the same effect.

    Im running sbc yahoo dsl and im sopposed to get from 384 kbps to 1500 max kbps down and 368 kbps up. But i've had my ISP for months now and i have never seen it so slow.....Any suggestions/help appriciated?

    Please feel free to ask me questions if needed. I just want to get my speed back and have pages loading as fast as before. Thanks

  5. Your speeds might not reach the exact point that your ISP tells you.

    My ISP (Sbc yahoo dsl) gave me a plan varing from 384 kbps to 1500 kbps down, and i usually get 1300 mbps. But thats fine with me! Speeds can vary because of many reasons, so unless your running REALLY slow,i think you should be fine  ;)

  6. I used dr.ctp and vanburen's cablenut tweak for my main desktop. It proves itself good.  :rolleyes:

    The weird part is that that download test was done on a mac that has a lan wire connection to the router running firefox.

    :whaa:

    I still think its awesome thought  ;)

    --- Oh yeah ------- *EDIT*

    And My main pc is off!

  7. jackop.........can i give u some advice ? ok great ;-) heheheh

    well if you give me some time, till tonight you say i can give you some specs on few combo's i've built before.....i build a lot computers all the time, so i could give you few pointers.....you were talking that you want pcix ? if you mean pci express then you dont really need that - your video can either be old PCI, AGP (a standard) or you could go PCI express....so if you go for example pci express, you cant go agp, its a tradeoff kinda, but pci express is still a new technology and pretty expensive, for now id just stick to agp - when it comes to a video card, since you're building a somewhat expensisve system, u could go with nvidia's 6800 chipset - id go with either regular 6800 (which is in the 200 dollar range) or if you really wanna go all out get the 6800gt

  8. Mispelled my name :evil: its jakop 8)

    J/K. That amd 3000+ sounds like a deal and a regular 6800 would be fine.

    Sounds like a nice setup, and yeah i changed my mind about pci express.

    I think i will stick to the 6800 agp 8x. Im looking fordward to your previous and current setup.....and also...could you tell me some good places on getting the parts you recommend?

    ---

    Take in mind that im going to buy all the parts individually and put them together or i could find a gamer barebones and start on that. Im not shure, so let me know your advice :D

    Thanks

  9. This motherboard sounds good for $120:

    -A8V DELUXE K8T800 PRO ATHLON64 SOCKET 939 5PCI AGP8X 4DDR400 DUAL CHANNEL DIMM UDMA 133 RAID SER. VIA K8T800 Pro chipset AMD Athlon 64FX Socket 939 DDR400 support 1 AGP8X 5 PCI IDE/SATA RAID Firewire 802.11g

    I guess that pretty much is what i needed, Next time i grab a computer it will have this motherboard :D

  10. I would rather get a 6600 gt and a 2500+ so i can buy a monitor with the money.

    Anyways, i still need help getting a good motherboard that is good and supports all the parts im looking fordward in my first post.
