I thought this was worthy of a new Topic. While surfing, especially on sites like ebay, I could fall asleep waiting for pages to set up and load. I've used Internet Explorer for years, but recently I tried a browser called Opera. They claim to be the fastest browser on Earth. So I did some investigating of my own. After downloading it and doing some tweaking, I was sold. My findings are that on speed tests it seemed to rate about 100 Kbs slower - but for surfing around - It completely annihilates Internet Explorer. So if you are having alot of time lags for pages to load with IE, try this and I think you will be pleasantly surprised. The ad free version costs $39.00 but to me, is worth it. It has cool skins and a very neat and organized set up that makes it east to use. I'm very impressed.

Hey BirdFan, I had a simular problem a few days ago. Acceleration was down or impaired. What happened to me was I was just browsing and lost the signal completely, went down to 5 or 6. So I went out for a look around and everything was fine - no clouds or nothing. Over the course of about 10 minutes it slowly climbed back up and finally became operational. But I was a bit bewildered.. Maybe a june bug crawled across my feed horn - not sure...lol

Since were talkin about speed here.. Does anyone know why I get speeds like this (below) and then on other speed test sites I get 752 Kbps? Try www.pcpitstop.com they have a test for sat connections. Please reply if you see a similar pattern. Any explanations? :::.. Another thing to consider.. How solid is the mount? Is it on the house or on a pole.. Could a strong wind have nudged it a hair out of line... With that being said. Has anyone tried to tweak their dish for a better signal strength. I know they are quite sensitive to even a minute adjustment. I'm considering adjusting mine for a better signal but a bit leery since I made a path in the yard adjustin my TV dish a couple years ago.

Wow.. I'm a bit dumbfounded.. I've had the DW6000 for a month and this is my first test over 950 Kbps.. AND - I just did about 6 tests getting between 1200 and 1300 Kbps.. Hmmmm. I dunno what to think lol. Anyone else seeing higher speeds? :::.. I don't know why it was so slow like that last night.. Finally it seemed to pick back up on its own. This was a test this morning. I tried that sat monitor program I found on another thread.. Hello again fellow direcway persuers... I thought I would be a nice guy and zip up a few useful files for ya all. In the zip is the Speed guide Optimizer and the Direcway reset program (instead of unplugging, this seems to do the trick). I had problems a couple nights ago - my speed wuz like 170 Kbps and images weren't makin it thru and my whole system wuz actin nuts.. Fumbled around for 2 hours with no progress - finally I unplugged the damm thing and plugged her back in and back in biz. Hi and thanks for the input on the DW4000. I suppose I can live with the DW6000's slower download speed - after all I'd have to pull teeth to get them to re-activate a DW4000 if I went on ebay and got one.. I've checked out Ebay - and yeah the DW4000's are up for sale - quite cheap I might add. People upgrading to the DW6000 are selling them - unaware the down speed is quite significantly slower. Had I known this before I ordered the DW6000 I probably would of got another used DW4000... Oh well - In my opinion Satellite internet is going to be a short lived avenue. Its just got to much workin against it - like ping times for example. NOTHIN is gonna make that better due to the cosmic speed limit of light (186,252 miles per second or so) and geosync orbit (22,300 miles or so).. A ping has to make nearly 100,000 mile round trip and there ya have 500 milliseconds plus whatever that ping travels on the ground. So its easy to understand why investors have their reservations on this technology - But stay optimistic - technology is advancing - other avenues of broadband will be accessable by all of us in the near future I'm sure. I'm personally lookin forward to Verizon's Fiber Optic Connection at 30,000 Kb's per sec...lol :::.. HI everyone! Its nice to see a community of DirecWay user's exchanging info for us puter junkies livin in the sticks with no options other than a big fat pipe from the sky.. Here's my story - I was with the DW4000 for about 14 months and the transmitter died, so I took the big plunge and got the DW6000. I've had it for about a week now getting about 950 Kb's a second download. Thing is - I was getting 1600 with my old DW4000 after tweakin it. I've done all the makin sure IE is set right and I ran the Optimizer. Still nothin better that 950.. Well I'm hopin since I just singed my name to 15 months that by some small miracle - somebody out there could give me advise on bringin me back to 1600 Kb's a sec like I had with the DW4000.
