  1. I haven't tested here in quite awhile. I am puzzled why the 50MB download test claims that my score is below host average. My score is reasonably close tp my cap and there is is no higher speed here. I don't appreciate Mainland speeds in huge cities where my ISP has to be competitive as having any relevance to Hawaii where there is no competition. It should give me almost 5 stars not 1! Plus, it would appear that you are rating these tests on how much money someone is willing to spend on their connection. I don't have $300 a month to spend so I can get 100mbps down (which is available here in a swanky community on the other side of this island..where Michael Dell has a home). Also, I did two tests. The first one was a combined download/upload automatic determination of best test and I was told that my speed was so high that "your line may literally be on fire! 368% of your host average. That test was at 3.83mbps/913kbps. Then I did a single download test of 50MB and was told "50% below your hosts average" at 4.4mbps. Those tests were both on Road Runner. Obviously, 4.4mbps is better than 3.83mbps so why the wacko comments that make no sense? My cap is 5mbps and that is the limit on this hawaiian island. Oahu is getting an increase currently to 10mbps but we on the neighbor islands will not get it until next year. So, for me I am not testing "below my ISP's average! I am testing (on the large - more accurate download test) reasonably close to my cap. I don't care what the cap is on Mainland RR. That is not relevant to Hawaii and my island. You should report that my speed is just fine ...not horrible! As for the first test, what the heck happened there?
  2. I have a new computer (host) and also have VMWare Workstation virtual (guest) computer. I have Road Runner. The host computer has nVidia controller for networking and the guest uses VMWare's Intel controller. Host computer has gotten horrible download speeds since I got it a few weeks ago. It is tweaked using DrTCP from DSL reports just like the guest computer. The guest computer gets excellent download speeds. On my previous computer, which was returned to Dell because it could not be repaired and was still under warranty, I got excellent download test speeds on the host computer and the same speeds (with minor variation) on the guest computer. (I had VMWare Workstation on that machine also). All speed tests from various sources that I have done for years are showing low speeds on this new host computer from Dell but the guest virtual computer shows excellent speeds from all the speed tests. What could cause the host machine to test so poorly and the virtual machine to test great? I am flummoxed by this. I have to download now from the guest machine because the downloads are fast and then move the file to the host and install it. That is crazy. I want to figure out why the host machine (XPS 600) can't achieve the speed I got on the Dell Dimension 8300 and that I still get on my virtual machine. The 8300 (like the virtual machine) had an Intel controller for networking and the XPS has nVidia controller so is there something possibly wrong with the nVidia controller? 3. I've been a member here for four months. How come only the two tests done yesterday and today are being used to calculate my average speed? I have saved all test results here to a Word document. I can put one of the links from a test, say three months ago, in the address bar and come here and find that test. So, all the tests, since I joined, are here in the data base. Thus, why are they not used in calculating my average speed? Why can't I find those tests when I do a search here? Why do I have to refer to my Word document and paste in the test number before it is found in searching here?
  4. Thank you for the explanation.s1. I'll keep my eye on it and hope it is somewhere on the West Coast when you get it up again.
  5. What happened to the California mirror? I live in Hawaii and prefer to test on the West Coast. I don't want to test the congestion of the internet or the crappy routing Road Runner is using from Hawaii now any further than the West Coast. I know Level3 is yucky (ATDN routing was much better when we used that).. The main test is in Texas and the mirrors are even further away. I'd really like to see a mirror working on the West Coast again. Thanks.
  6. I just tried to test at the California mirror and got this: Warning: main(./outside/multi/California/conf.conf_php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/testmyn/public_html/main.php on line 213 Fatal error: main(): Failed opening required './outside/multi/California/conf.conf_php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/testmyn/public_html/main.php on line 213 Ugh. The main test is too far away for me as I am in Hawaii. The California mirror is the only one I can use. How come there are so many mirrors on the East Coast and only one on the West Coast?
  7. That was sort of dumb of me about the cookies. When I first came here, and Fx alerted me, I chose session only cookies and never remembered to clear that instruction so, of course, Fx was not setting a permanent cookie. All fixed now. Thank you s1. That would be great if mirror sites could record the results. One of the things I like about testing here is the summary information but if that is not including the mirror tests it is not that accurate. I am used to testing at Speakeasy sites and they all record to dslreports even though they are not located there.
  8. How come mirror tests aren't saved in your member stats? I can't use the main test here. I am in Hawaii and need to use the Calif. mirror for better accuracy of my speed and not the congestion of the internet. Also, how come I can't stay logged in here? I checked the box to always be logged in.
