  1. wont tell you WHAT satellite you're on.....If you're using the HN9000, there is only ONE satellite you COULD be on (spaceway3). However, it will tell you down download and upload cells you are on.   2. Good to know someone else in TENNESSEE that's got HughesNET is happy with it. All the people that had WILDBLUE up and down the road I live on, suddenly have HUGHESNET dishes. I guess they got so sick of wildblue they changed. I am not sure they are all on Spaceway3 using the HN9000 though. The dish looks the same but the LNB (transmitter) is a big bigger on the HN9000.
  3. Curious, you said your son was on Hughesnet. What area? How long has he been using the HN9000?
  4. You would have to get a NEW dish and NEW modem and NEW install BECAUSE the HN9000 systems point to a totally different satellite. the modem is different, and the dish is more elliptical. The satellite Spaceway 3 is at 95W.... The 9000 Dish requires a more detailed antenna pointing, and can only be registered when a DAPT tool is attached and antenna pointing is authenticated.

  6. Most of the people on HUGHESNET that are having the major complaints are using the 6000 or 7000 modems that are on the older satellites. I have read only a small number of complaints from people on the HN9000 and Spaceway3. It doesn't have the conjestion and overcrowdness that the other satellites have. So far, i've had good luck with the HN9000. I am getting about 90% of my plans speed. I am on the PRO PLUS Pkg. I've only had to call tech support once so far (and yes, its in India, so you might have to call more than once to get someone you can understand.....Billing support is in the Phillipines).
  7. I'm on a NEW install using the HN9000 modem on Spaceway 3. My signal strength usually stays around 170-180, and my downloads are pretty consistent within 1.5mbps. PEAK TIME doesn't seem to affect me (YET). So far, I'm pretty happy with no complaints. If you had the 6000 or 7000, you may or may not could upgrade to the 9000 as it points to a totally different satellite and perhaps line of sight was an issue previously???
  8. you're still on one of the OLD satellites that HUGHESNET uses. If you are using a 7000 modem. All new installs are done using the HN9000 modem (white), and pointed towards the Spaceway3 Satellite. If your line of sight probibited you from getting a good signal, then installers use the HN7000 modem using another satellite. If a tech told you other customers were getting ULTRA HIGH BANDWIDTH, perhaps he meant you were on Spaceway3 using an HN9000. I am on the PRO plus plan and getting 1.5mbps 24 hours 7 days a week (so far). I do not seem to be affected by 'peak" time as far as speeds. Someone suggested that after your 30 day trial period is up, the HNS NOCC downloads software in your modem to throttle downloads between 4pm and midnight. Haven't confirmed this yet, as it has not affected me yet. Is there any reason that you weren't allowed to upgrade to an HN9000 and get moved to the Spaceway 3 satellite? Another member suggested that you might be under the "FAP" restriction. In the HN 9000 modem you can type and if your indicator light is AMBER, you're in fap, otherwise its green . . .
  9. Oh, I thought you were trying to get OUT of your contract.........Heck, with the service you are receiving, I would have cancelled already. I had only ventured into ONE MONTH of Wildblue before I cancelled. And I would have never gotten ANY response from corporate had I not filed a complaint with the BBB.... Yes, I am on HUGHESNET, and I have not had any problems with them the 6 months I've had it (knock on wood). I hate paying $90 a month, but its better than paying for another phone line and dialup! I am on the PRO PLUS lease plan. 1.6Mbps 425MB daily download limit (FREE dowloads between 2am and 7am) I use a download manager and download the crap outta stuff while I'm asleep!
  10. GeneralLee76, I just noticed you are from Dickson, Tn....... You are on the SAME BEAM that I was on before I cancelled. This beam is tremendously OVERFILLED. THREE field technicians and a group of engineers at Wildblue continually lied to me about this, always stating there was nothing wrong with the performance of my system Your "peak time" speeds will never get any better I'm afraid. As a matter of fact, wildblue recently CLOSED this beam to new subscribers because its overfilled, overworked, and over capacity. I am not sure whether they've resolved any issues or whether they've opened it back up to new orders though. I'd complain til you have the option to cancel! If you need more contact names and phone numbers, I'd be glad to assist!

  12. Actually ordering satellite internet thru DISH NETWORK (or at&t) is really a bad move. Because its Wildblue's service anyway..... While your email address might be [email protected], its STILL WILDBLUE that is providing the service. DISH and AT&T are just re-sellers of Wildblue.. They are just getting a cut from Wildblue to market their service. Its just like DSL from Earthlink a few years ago. It was DSL from BELLSOUTH, Earthlink just got $$$ for marketing it. I **almost** ordered Wildblue from DISHNETWORK, Glad I didn't. I didn't want internet issues to have to be associated with my TV account (since I've NEVER had any issues with DISH). So, you have WILDBLUE to thank for any issues, not DISH.

Of the total of 1242 complaints closed in 36 months, 387 were closed in the last year.
  14. The big word there is "IF POSSIBLE"........If DSL, CABLE, FIOS, EVDO were available, I can assure the ones who are using satellite at the moment WOULD'T BE! Satellite internet usually is a last resort other than using dial-up for remote areas.
  15. TWO beams cover TN for Wildblue. One covers the Nashville surrounding area and one covers the Knoxville area I believe. The one in Nashville was so overcrowed with so many angry people getting less than 200kbps, that they FINALLY closed that beam to new installs (something they should have done a while back). they will NEVER admit their service is overloaded, NEVER. and when you DO complain, you get the script "SPEEDS are NOT guaranteed". Even when you call tech support, its always the same "scripted" solutions. Run a few speed tests, reset the modem, reboot the pc.......If you manage to get transferred BEYOND first level tech support, then it becomes a REAL troubleshooting process, but RARELY with any results. Wildblue consistently blamed my pc for my slow performance. HOGWASH! I have a new HP pc. Ironically, I am on HUGHESNET now, and I have **NO** performance issues, period. I maintain about 1.5 mbps 24/7. and download the heck out of data during 2am to 7am. Something else I noticed.... Five houses (including me at the time) had Wildblue.....AMAZINGLY, weeks later We've all got HUGHESNET dishes... Write the Better Business Bureau of DENVER if you are dis-satisfied with Wildblue (wildbluz)
  16. I had DSL under Bellsouth while I lived in Nashville. I got 6.0mbps all the time, consistently. I think I was paying $32. Never had 1 issue with it. (Its 6 miles down the road here, but they wont run it any further) WHY are you wanting to switch to COMCAST??? I had issue after issue with them relating to speed and billing... Of course, I'm out in the boonies now and have HughesNet (1.5mbps) but anything's better than Dial-up.

  18. HughesNet is far superior to Wildblue (after having a first nightmare experience with Wildblue). UPTIME for Hughes is alot better than Wildblue. SPEEDS are consistent with the plan you are signed up for (PRO PLUS here) My signal strength is around 170, and get 1.5 Mbps 90% of the time (yes, a little slow down during "peak" hours, but never less than 1.2 Mbps). This is using the HN9000 Modem and a newer style satellite on Spaceway 3 Satellite. Hughes just had a $100 rebate for three days, so that made the activation FREE. Tech Support is in India and Billing support is in the Phillipines. I've only had to call once to solve a minor issue. As with any SATELLITE provider, there is FAP. wildblue's goes on a rolling 30 day period, while HUGHES goes on a daily limit. I am allowed 425MB a day on the PRO PLUS. HOWEVER, downloads between 2am and 7am DO NOT COUNT against your usage. I just use a download manager and schedule all my updates and huge files (I have downloaded up to 3GB during this period). SO, while each service has its PROS and CONS, HUGHESNET in the long run has worked out better for me.

  20. Wildblue was the worst internet service I ever ventured into . . . On top of the fact that their "BEAMS" are so overfilled, they keep signing up people... I am in TN, and numerous people on the WILDBLUE FORUMS comment on the same issues (yet after you complain so much, your posts(s) get deleted by the forum moderators). Calling customer service is useless. They just state "speeds aren't guaranteed", and there is nothing that they can so about the slowness during 'PEAK" time, which is from around 4pm to 11pm. Ranging a little more than dialup, this is certainly unacceptable for $70 a month! Eventually, I was released from my committment after I wrote the Better Business Bureau of Denver, and finally reached their "EXECUTIVE ESCALATIONS" department. Ken Carroll is the president of the company. Do your self a favor and save yourself a HUGE headache. DO NOT SIGN UP FOR WILDBLUE. I have had HUGHES ever sense with no issues. (See my other review)
