Are you using a OpenVZ powered VPS?

The httpd server is running plesk which has a remote sql server ability, but it only has very basic settings, such as administrator and password duh ? So this will be done with , and without plesk support , which bothers me not , and is one good reason the secondary server is running no GUI , including myphpadmin or anything else unnecessary like it.

If you go rid of plesk and used cPanel it would make this so much easier. cPanel has remote MySQL options built in that make it super easy.

Wether you like it or not. Everything "phones home" now. Its not just google and web browsers. Every OS (Computer or Phone) does it just about every application does it now. Phone apps can send crazy amounts of information back with out you ever knowing.

By the way... my 27" iMac can only do 2560x1440 - amazing to think of all my pixels plus 1.5 million pixels crammed into 15.4"... just crazy. (I did the math, 41% more pixels than a 27" iMac, seriously) -- I'll be getting a new iMac when they get a 27" or larger Retina iMac, now that will be INSANE resolution.

I can't wait for a 27" iMac with a retina display. If they keep the math the same as they have it will have a res of 5120x2880 thats 14.7 million pixels. Sadly tho I don't think it will happen anytime soon. I may end up with this new Macbook Pro.

It's not especially hard to drive two or even three displays of that size, but it's still a very welcome upgrade to the laptop screen market. If only this was done 5 years ago, imagine how much further monitor specs would be compared to current day screens.

On a desktop its been easy but on a notebook, typically you only get one video out (Sometimes two VGA + HDMI) but then a lot of the times the notebook display sucked as far as resolution goes.

I do completely agree this should have happened years ago now we gotta wait. Maybe once Intel finally figures out how to make a intergraded GPU that is somewhat close to a dedicated card of the day it will happen.

So what do you guys think about this new Macbook Pro with the Retina display? This thing is pretty insane, the display really makes it at a resolution of 2880x1800 that means over 5 million pixels on a 15in notebook display. So if your editing video your preview window can show the entire 1080p clip.

The laptop has so much power it can drive the laptop display at 2880x1800 and 2 external displays over thunderbolt at 2560x1600 at the same time. Hopefully it doesn't take 5 years for this display tech. to come down enough so everyone can get it since Windows 8 is retina ready it should help.

This is something that just consistently swaps around. Chrome is the "fastest" next month it will be Safari 6 and who knows the month after that.

I personally use Safari and Chrome can't stand IE or Firefox plus webkit based browsers tend to be more stable and quicker.

The thing with Apple is that they've got a lockdown on their entire supply chain from software to hardware and everything in between. They wield ultimate control over the entire user experience.

If you set the OpenDNS IP's on your local machine there is no way they can change them, so just set it there.

Its really not that strange. It happens.

Remember raid is not a backup. This is why you do daily backups of the database and all site data. At any moment this can happen.

I might be the only person that has had a bad experience with Lion, either way , a wasted 30 bucks. And will be removed from my machine as soon as I can take the time.

The longer I use it , the slower it gets. Seriously reminds me of ( what was the last windows rippoff ? ) Where you were expected to have a fresh from the shelve machine or you suffered physical resource issues. Each time the machine is restarted , it takes longer to boot, while streaming HD video from the net, the entire system is literally choppy. Where snow leopard was not.

I suppose when you make the move to the pretties instead of usability , you need more resources , in which is ridiculous.

Have had none of those issues and I have done clean installs and upgrades. What mac are you running it on?

I like IE6 the best because I can trust its not spying on me.. And it looks the nicest (Last good version)

For my LEAST FAVOURITE i picked CHROME

Theres no doubt with how intrusive google is that they are spying on everyone who uses that browser!!

You do know its not the browser that spys on you, its the website typically with tracking cookies. Since all browsers support cookies you can be tracked using any one.

I can't pull my full speeds on 1G lines either... It could be a limitation of the host computer. Realize that for connections as fast as yours... you can't realy max them out here. It's going through your browser so any browser limitations also come into play. I've even noticed that hard drive speed can be a factor in your results here (on really fast connections that becomes noticeable after a SSD upgrade for instance). Your computer has to be able to quickly process the amount of information that's being loaded into the browser. ...This is not just a simple test of your Internet, that's just how it started.

In the future I plan on releasing command line testing utilities that will make testing on those types of connections REALLY accurate.

The hard drive is a big one with really fast connections. But I've also noticed that the NIC can come into play with really fast connections. Even tho they are gigabyte I've noticed that some cheap ones can't manage any kind of sustained transfers at high speed.

Is this on like a VPS or a dedicated box? If you want to look into see if the drive is having any issues run FSCK on it. But I would look into chucking plesk out the window and replace it with cPanel if you need a control panel.

For me its a toss up between Safari and Chrome. On OS X I use both all the time but I prefer safari for its developer tools. It's much better then what chrome offers.

On windows its Chrome all the time. IE is a joke and Firefox is just a mess now.

Umm. Macs have always had "right click". There may not have always been a second button, but its been there. On notebooks you just tap with 2 fingers to right click.

If you can spring for the extra 60 bucks go for the Radeon 6770 over the 6670. There is a pretty good difference between the two otherwise the config is good.

i do have flash playing the video... i'm not using an iphone or a blackberry it doesn't launch the video in a video player or the youtube app... it loads up flash right in my browser and plays the video and then states this video is not optimized for mobile use

Right since you have flash it will use that in the browser for the download. If you didn't use flash to play the video it will use the standard video player built into Android which does not use the browser for the stream.

Actually I don't use the youtube app I go to the webpage. I think your assuming everyone does what you do however your points are still valid

Even if you go to Youtube.com on iOS or Android it doesn't use the browser to stream/download the video. The OS takes over when you click on the video and uses the standard player built into the OS which uses a simple HTTP request to get the video.

The only way it would ever use the browser would be if you had Flash playing the video.

how is that a real world circumstance though? the cpu and browser are factors for download speeds even on a phone aren't they? i'm pretty sure thats why this site exists. so you can know your actual speed not some fictional well if everything was perfect you'd get this. if you want to stroke your e-peen more be my guest there are plenty of flash based tests for that

Its a real world circumstance because 90% of the internet data thats used on a mobile device (iPad, iPhone, Android phone/tablet etc.) is not done in the browser and does not use the browser engine to do the download.

Example. If your on a iPad and you stream a movie from say Netflix your not actually steaming that file using the browser. If you go to Youtube on Android or iOS it doesn't use the browser to steam the video. Open any application on Android or iOS that pulls data from a server and it does not use the browser to download the data unless the developer was specifically to load a web view.

So if 90% of the time I'm not actually using the browser to grab data from a server why would I want to do a speedtest in a browser thats going to give me an in accurate result?

I want to do a speedtest that uses the same method every other app is using to download data. Thats how you get an accurate real world result because it uses the same method the real world is using.
