  2. Thanks everyone. I have gone through the thread and most of what's up there I had already done.

    Spybot, Avast, ccleaner, windows updates, SP2, defrag each month etc etc,

    I am wondering if it's my router set up?? I had the standard Verizon DSL 1.5mbps package originally, and then was upgraded to the 3.0mbps package using a Westell 327W router/modem combo like everyone else. The 327W did not have enough wireless range, so I put it in bridge mode and use it as a modem only now, and have hooked up a Linksys WRT54GX4 with SRX400 as the wireless router.

    I know this setup works okay, but am concerned that my speed may be limited to my old 327W Westell acting as the modem.

    I have cablenut installed and am using the settings for 'fast adsl 2K' is this correct?

    Thanks,

  3. Here are my download stats.....verizon.net

  5. I'm sorry but I'm not an expert in this area, although Verizon have been advertising this upgrade on the TV recently also. I would call the customer service line and see if there's anything you can do, but if you are capped in your area to 1.5mbps I suspect there is nothing you (or they) can do due to geography i.e your distance from the nearest Verizon box.

    It's certainly worth a phone call though.......maybe you can get a discount instead?

  6. Just got the 3.0 upgrade from Verizon from 1.5 to 3.0. Although still not stunning, it's not bad..

    :::.. Download Stats ..:::

    Connection is:: 2678 Kbps about 2.7 Mbps (tested with 12160 kB)

    Download Speed is:: 327 kB/s

    Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (main)

    Test Time:: Wed May 4 20:06:00 EDT 2005

    Bottom Line:: 48X faster than 56K 1MB download in 3.13 sec

    Diagnosis: 90% + Okay : running at 100 % of your hosts average (145.78)

    Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-TBQUNS58X

    Anyone who is still on the 1.5mbps package and is paying $29.99 for a 1 year commitment should call and get upgraded for no extra charge..

    Pete

  7. Having no problems up until now, but went to log onto 192.168.1.1 and entered my password, but I can't get on? I know it's right......!!!

    I have a Westell 327W and unplugged everything and hit the 're-set' button for 30 secs - nothing changed.

    Re-booted etc, still nothing - Can't get on...

    The only thing I did was to upgrade my memory to 1GB. Is it possible that something is still stored in the old memory that I need? Everything else seems to work okay. Is there a default login password? I tried 'admin' but still no good.

    Can anyone help?

  8. Hello VanBuren and thanks for trying to help me.

    You'll have to excuse my ignorance but I'm not sure what you mean by 'package'? I'll supply the following for now in case I guessed right  ;)

    DSL Router - Westell Versalink 327W

    OS Win XP home all relevant MS updates loaded

    SP2 Same as above

    Proc. 3.2GHZ P4 mobile (This is a Sony Vaio PCG-K45 machine)

    512M Ram

    Ccleaner installed and ran

    MS antispyware installed and ran

    NAV updated and ran

    What else do you need?

  9. I have tried most of the tips on this site but still have a horrible speed;

    :::.. Download Stats ..:::

    Connection is:: 1436 Kbps about 1.4 Mbps (tested with 1496 kB)

    Download Speed is:: 175 kB/s

    Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (main)

    Test Time:: Mon Apr 25 21:19:12 EDT 2005

    Bottom Line:: 26X faster than 56K 1MB download in 5.85 sec

    Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 53.07 % of your hosts average (verizon.net)

    Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-10FJCZSX7

    I must be doing something wrong. I was getting much faster speed than this at one time, but it changed after  I re-booted to this and now it seems consistent. Can anyone help?

    I am running XP with SP2 updated. All spyware run and turned off for the test, and no viruses that I can detect with Norton AV.

    Thanks

  10. Thanks helloimtim, yes I am running XP with SP2 and all are updated. I tried the tweaks initially because my connection speed seemed to be as slow as dial up although the download test did not show that specifically.

    The tweaks did seem to help as not only did my recorded speed indicate a faster connection, pages just loaded faster - nothing but smiles in my house for a few hours, but then it was back to it's old self again next time I booted up.

    Can registry settings change ad-hoc? Is it possible that a program is blocking registry changes and re-setting them back to default - Norton, Spybot, etc?

  11. I have Verizon DSL service with a Westell 327W box. After tweaking with vanburens_cablenut_settings_version_2_679, I have been as fast as 100% of their average, but after shutting the computer down and re-starting it some time later, I have been as low as 30%.

    All the times I tested have been with the same conditions, and no-one else on the network. Just myself plugged into the Westell with my ethernet cable.

    I can post the results later, but is this something that others have seen? It seems like a drastic jump in download speed that I suspect it's not related to the PC at all, but I can't think what? Can anyone help?

    Thanks,  Pete
