  1. ecliptic, I run Windows ME, and I'm not about to argue with these fine folks on here, but I love ME. Out of curiosity, have you checked your system resources to see what they are running after a fresh reboot? ME is a hog for system resources, and will slow your system to a crawl unless you keep start-up menu to a minimum. Right click on my computer, left click on properties, then performance tab. If system resources are below 50% after a fresh reboot, you might consider removing un-needed items from your start-up menu. See Here: http://www2.whidbey.net/djdenham/Uncheck.htm Good luck,

I have a copy of XP Pro laying on my desk, and use it on office computer on cable. Quite honestly, I've had zero problems with ME, and am afraid to change. If it ain't broke, why fix it?
  3. Thanks for the help on the IMG file. I knew better, but age took over. Normal downloads for me from speakeasy usually run 2000 t0 2300 in early a.m., and around 1400 to 1600 in p.m. That's why I thought the downloads here this morning of 2900 and 3200 were bogus. I've tested here before, and usually run from 1900 to 2600, depending on time of day. My tests this morning, just moments from the high download test done here are posted here: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,10021166~mode=flat I enjoy your site, and visit at least weekly........just not enough satellite posters to keep me coming back every day. Thanks, Larry
  4. It's after 7 p.m. here CA3LE, and typical sat speeds are usually about 1/2 what they are at 7 a.m. Here is a screen capture of the results, with the top one being the first one you asked me to save. Edit: Don't know why the image didn't show, as the link is correct if you put it in browser. Edit again: By the way, it's still doing it: ::: Download Stats ::: Connection is: 2537 Kbps about 2.5 Mbps (tested with 579 KB) Download Speed is: 310 KB/sec Auth Code: 2038056 (validate at http://www.testmy.net) Bottom Line: 45 times faster than 56K you can download 1MB in 3.3 second(s) Validation Link :: https://testmy.net/cgi-bin/auth_check.cgi?ta=&top=&align=&num=2038056&kbps=2537&gen=gen&a=11.4285714285714&b=1.71428571428571&c=1145.14285714286

  6. Sorry guys, but as I said before, I'm not a tech person. I use the 1460 mtu because it "seems" just a hair faster than 1500. With satellite, my download speeds can vary by 200 to 300 kbps from one test to the next, so it's hard to get an accurate read. I only posted here trying to help the author of this thread, but he/she seems to have moved on. Thanks for the great test site.......... I'll go back in my corner and lurk now. 8. Thanks for the welcome. I am not a tech person, but learned 2 1/2 years ago that tweaktester does not work for satellite. FAQ # 1733: Q: Satellite Connections: Adjustments won't take! (#1733) A: At this time, the tweak tester does not work for satellite connections. Since these systems use Network Address Translation (NAT), the IP address used by the tweak tester to find your computer's TCP settings is actually not reading your computer at all. It is reading the computer at the Network Operations Center that is providing the NAT services. This doesn't mean that the changes you made with DrTcp didn't take. It just means the tweak tester cannot detect the changes.
  9. I've been on Direcway thru Pegasus and now Earthlink for over 2 1/2 years now, and my speeds down are among the top 10% of posters on DSLR satellite forum. See here: http://www.dslreports.com/archive/direcpc.com?r=336 If I may take the liberty of some suggestions, here's a few: 1.) Keep your computer clean of unnecessary programs. 2.) Clean up your start up menu to keep unnecessary programs from loading. 3.) Go here: http://www.tweakmaster.com/ and download a free 30 day trial of Tweakmaster Pro. This is a program made by Hagel Technologies, the same people that make DU Meter. 4.) Download and use DRTCP. Here are my drtcp settings: Good luck, Larry Edit: Oh, by the way, here is test done a few minutes ago on TestMynet: ::: Download Stats ::: Connection is: 2515 Kbps about 2.5 Mbps (tested with 1013 KB) Download Speed is: 307 KB/sec Auth Code: 2037726 (validate a http://www.testmy.net) Bottom Line: 45 times faster than 56K you can download 1MB in 3.34 second(s) Validation Link :: https://testmy.net/cgi-bin/auth_check.cgi?ta=&top=&num=2037726&kbps=2515&gen=gen&a=7.42857142857143&b=0&c=1145.14285714286
