  1. Hello everyone! Having a problem with my download speeds... We've been getting around 130kB/s download speed on files from the internet and bittorrent (may sometimes go above, has been at 180 before but not for long...) We've had this speed for about the last 10 years (may be a little exaggeration) and I've been getting so sick of lag on the PS3 when another person is just looking at ebay on another computer so i phoned pipex, and apparently (after 15 minutes of "your call is important to us..." were on an 8Mb line, and he spent a couple minutes with me on hold, did something then came back and said we should be getting 3.5 - 5.8Mbps (when were paying for 8?...) On speedtest.net I get no more than 0.98Mbps Down and 0.25Mbps Up, On this site I get just 863kbps which transfers to 110kB/s (A little less than the normal 130 i mentioned above but nothing out of the ordinary) Now one would imagine (correct my arrogance if you please) that if we "should" have 3.5 - 5.8Mbps, that should translate to 400 - 700kB/s download speed right? (even though friends and family around me get well over 1Mbps download speed. Upon learning of this, i looked at my router/modem and its a really old 3Com, last software update according to 192.168.0.1 was 2005, they were bought out in 2004 or 2005 by HP. So I looked online, bought a D-link - DIR655 however its just the router and not modem so wouldnt connect, went out today to pc world and bought a belkin Play N600 DB. I left the store amusingly with a big grin on my face knowing that within the hour I'd set it up, do another run and watch a test file off download.com come in at a cool 3Mbp/s or more.....nope...still the sodding 130kB/s .... So by this time im racking my brains, clawing my eyes out and trying to chill out to some of bob marleys finest (in more ways than one...) and my only other option is to have an engineer called out at a cost of £100. I've looked at the Help section about the micro filter (had another one come with the belkin) but not sure on how it should be set up, so to avoid my long winded explanations that lead to the road of no-where, I took a couple snaps to help explain. 2 Spare sockets, phone line connections (live with my parents, so dont have a clue about any of these) If the flash means you cant work it out, the right one has a BT logo on it and a single input, the left is a double phone line, not sure if these mean anything or if they're just redundant, but thought i'd include them. This is the third socket that is the one in use, its a double socket with 1 x phone connection and 1 x small WAN/internet connection (not ethernet size cable but an ethernet lead will fit in there) The Internet socket goes from that box to the new belkin modem router (and obviously went to the old 3Com router) and the right side (phone) has some horrible square box with red blinker thing, to what looks like a splitter, to then what looks like yet another splitter :S and my old man says thats the sky and telephone i think. Basically im asking for any advice on how to rectify the problems im getting with this poor connection before having to call in an engineer, maybe someone can spot a problem in those pictures with the setup, or maybe its something more sinister.... any help is hugely appreciated. If anyone needs print screens or a copy of text of certain router settings then ill be happy to upload.
