  1. Thanks again, CA3LE; you guys are THE BEST!! Have a great day & fine week!! jerry in TX
  2. Thx CA3LE for your kind response. What you describe in your last statement is what I've been doing, and it works just fine. One suggestion, you MAY (your choice) wish to remove that non-functional "Copy to Clipboard" button from the site since it could be confusing to newbies. Thanks again, very best regards, jerry in TX
  3. Thanks for your help, MudmanC4. I'll work through the add-ons in FF. VR, jerry in TX
  4. Greetings Testmy.net folks. Just curious as to why the "Copy to Clipboard" does not work? At least it doesn't work for me (WinXP SP3; last patch level using Firefox 36.0.4 as browser). It's not a big deal, I can easily use the mouse to copy the results and then paste into the logs I maintain on my system for records to share if needed w/my ISP. But of course the "Copy to Clipboard" function when it used to work made this process even easier. Just wondering, no gripe from me. Thanks for all the fine work you put into this BEST in the world speed test website. jerry in TX
  5. Thx, TriRan; I totally agree. To me it just didn't make sense, but then "different strokes" and all that. He/she is welcome to do whatever they want; it's their system they're using and their bandwidth limits that they're up against. I do note from what little I've checked that they run small size tests both up & down. Which again, is fine. I found out (with a little help from my ISP tech spt) that running larger size tests once/day provides more accurate overall results...at least in my case. And looking @ the "member history" on your fine site, the results I see tend to bear that out. Those of us who have the new WB/Exede/Viasat package(s) running less tests with larger sizes (both up & down) tend to have far better results from what I see. One thing that I have no way of knowing is whether the user in question is on the newer & faster Exede/Viasat WB connection or the older & slower setup. If the latter is the case, they'll never match the speeds that we're now achieving. But oh well, that's just a wag on my part, as I said, I have no way of knowing. Anyhow, thanks very much for your response & for the great work that you fine folks do with this outstanding Internet Speed Test website; BEST on the net by far. I'll leave this issue at this point, no sense on me continuing to speculate on what some other tester is doing; not my business and I'm HAPPY with the results I obtain! Thanks again, very best to you & all the fine folks involved in making Testmy work so very well. Jerry, Llano County, Central TX Hill Country, USA
  6. Yes, TriRan they're clearly running auto tests repeatedly. Which does nothing for the Wildblue overall average per the graph since their uploads are consistently < 1mbps & downloads < or = to 10mbps. As I said in my earlier, running the same test every 5 minutes over a period of several hours will most likely NOT improve their speed? Very best, jerry in Central TX Thx tommie gorman. Yes, we Sat system users have a LOT of latency; it's the price one pays with a Sat system Internet service. But for us in the rural areas, unless we can get CONSISTENT wireless 3G or 4G (we can't YET in this hilly country, not enough towers)we either use Satellite and pay the latency price or we use dial-up. In my place, which would you choose? I'm very happy with the performance and price I'm paying! While that price is a bit higher than those in metro areas who have ready access to a variety of High Speed Broad Band Internet services (including DSL & Cable Modem)at least I'm not creeping along @ dial-up speeds. Thanks for your reply.
  7. I don't see any recent (later than Feb, 2011) posts on this topic so I'll chime in here. After we (Central TX Hill Country) began converting to Wildblue's "Viasat/Exede" service back in April, 2012 we've seen a substantial increase in speeds. And looking at the charts/graphs for the service, I'm consistently much faster than the overall Wildblue averages. I run seperate upload/download tests ONCE per day, usually early in the morning. Here are my results for today: :::.. What I do note per the graphs is that the Wildblue averages (per the graphs) are substantially lower than mine. I can't completely explain this. However looking at the detailed results from the Wildblue "Members" data, I see folks running at the speeds I get; a few even better. But, I also see folks running much slower. Further, I see some folks (and I'm not being critical, what they do/how they do it & how often is their business) running MULTIPLE tests every 5 minutes expecting (hoping for) a different result? For example, a user named "Scoreteam" does this often & their results are very poor. Which then per the graph brings DOWN the "average" for Wildblue as a whole. Doing this makes no sense to me? One of the defs of insanity is "doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result". If a Wildblue client doesn't have the newer Exede/Viasat service with its faster connection, they're NEVER going to reach the speeds/bandwidth capability of those of us who do have such service. Running repeated tests every 5 minutes won't change that, will it? Don't think so. Anyhow, that's my 2 cents on the issue. I'm very happy with the new Wildblue/Exede/Viasat package; beats hell out of what we had before and certainly is far BETTER than dial-up which is the only alternative for many of us who live in remote/rural areas. Thanks Ca3le and your team for this fine website; BEST on the net!! Jerry, Llano County, TX, USA
  8. Thanks, the problem is resolved, I just ran a set of up & down tests via the Dallas node and worked like a champ. I do note that the "copy to clipboard" function is again disabled, but I know how to "copy & paste". Appreciate your and ca3le's fine work & support; great website!!! Very best regards, jerry in TX (fmrusmcrntx) (WildBlue-Exede-Viasat)
  9. Today, I'm unable to complete any test using the "Select Test Size" option. When I attempt it, the page just cycles back and no test is run(either up or down). If I choose "Express" or "Smartest", a test is run with very poor results yet I'm logged off the site! My default testmy site is Dallas (Georgetown). This has been occurring since early (0630cst) this morning. I'm using Wildblue-Exede-Viasat. At 0815, I called my ISP and asked if they were experiencing the same problem. They ran a quick test from their Comcast (Cable Modem) office system and encountered the same thing I get here in my home office. Any ideas what's happening? The testmy site is excellent and I've had no problems until today. Any response(s) greatly appreciated. Jerry in Central TX; login is fmrusmcrntx.
  10. I recently used Apricorn's "Apricorn Direct 5 GB USB 3.0 Notebook External Hard Drive Upgrade Kit EZ-UP3" product which I purchased from Amazon to clone my old WD Mechanical HD to a new Intel SSD. The kit includes both a USB 3.0 (backward compat to 2.0 if that's all one has)device that provides an external connection to the new SSD. It also includes Apricorn's "EZ Gig Cloning" software that's so simple to use "a caveman could do it". This product worked flawlessly, quickly allowing me to get rid of the old WD Mechanical drive. Once I'd done my PC, I told my neighbor about how much faster the SSD was; we obtained another Intel SSD and did the same job on his PC. The Apricorn product I'm speaking of can be found on Amazon at: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005PU8T44/ref=pe_175190_21431760_M2T1_SC_dp_1. Plz understand I ain't selling anything here, just providing info. I'm sure other products such as those mentioned work well also. But for me, going into this process cold, I found the Apricorn HW/SW combination to be a winner!
  11. Again, Damon I sincerely thank you for the fine job that you & your great staff do with this very BEST ON THE NET speed testing website. And appreciate your kind & totally professional reply. Please know that I do my part as well as I can in widely circulating through my email/internet community "the word" about this site. Keep up the great work. Very best regards and cheers as well to YOU! (Emoticons not working properly, disabled/grayed out; problem likely on my end, sorry!) Jerry in TX
  12. *****************************My humble reply follows*********************************** Hello CA3LE, thank you for your response(s) to my post. I apologize if my post appears to be "cranky". But in fact I was cranky to be surprised by a totally new version this morning. Please bear with me as I explain as briefly & accurately as I can. I only do ONE speed test per day, when I first wake up in the morning. I do this because this is the time that Internet traffic is still fairly light. And over time, I keep my own log(s) by simply copying the results into an email that I then simply send to myself containing each days results. I do this on a weekly basis, and then file the weeks worth of information into a seperate folder in Outlook for reference/research purposes in case I need to deal with issues regarding my ISP or WildBlue/Exede/Viasat. Therefore, the "Results" button which provided me a convenient way to quickly copy to the clipboard and then paste into my email log was/is very handy for me. I was (and continue) a manual copy/paste into said email the "Broadband Speed Index" stats shown at the very top of the page in version 12.9. Perhaps this information isn't relevant, but it's what I did & continue to do. In my experiences this AM with version 13, I was unable to find anything from my UPLOAD test to copy & paste. This wasn't the case with the download test. The results there showed me the complete text results which I then copied/pasted into my email. I then came to the forum and found the link to take me back to version 12.9. So I logged out, cleared cookies, and restarted my test process on version 12.9 which worked as it always had. I'm thankful that version 12.9 is still there! I will continue using it rather than version 13 until later when I'm convinced that 13 will do what I need. If you wish to email me privately on this, you have my email address & I'll be more than happy to share with you exactly how I use this fine website and provide you a copy of my daily (rolled up weekly) log. I certainly invite you to do so if you're so inclined. Further, I apologize if my comment(s) regarding the roll-out of version 13 were offensive, that wasn't my intent at all. I certainly respect you and the fine work that you & your staff do on this VERY BEST Internet speed testing website. I was simply suggesting that rather than just surprising all of us daily users that you include a line in the currently running version (in this case it WAS 12.9) stating that a Beta version is available to the public and then allowing all to take a look, use, and comment prior to the actual rollout. This is what we always did when I was gainfully employed in the IT field all those years. Further, it's what Microsoft and other large software engineering outfits routinely do. In saying this, I'm NOT arguing with the way you manage your website. Rather, I'm humbly and respectfully stating my difference of opinion on this matter. Finally, I appreciate the fact that your website is FREE to all to use. And the fine work that you & your staff do with this OUTSTANDING website. That said, speaking only for myself, I'd be happy to PAY a reasonable monthly fee to support & use the website if I could be assured that the website would remain stable and that I'd not be unpleasantly surprised as I was this morning. Food for thought? And perhaps the community would (or would NOT) agree with me on this. Again, I apologize for any offense that I've caused, such was certainly not my intent. And I THANK YOU & your fine staff for the EXCELLENT WORK that you do for we, your client base. Sincerely & respectfully, jerry in tx
  13. Unfortunately, I cannot say that I'm thrilled with this new version (13.0). Here's why: 1. I no longer see the "Daily Index" that was available at the top of the page with the earlier (12.9) version. 2. We no longer have the "Results" button available to allow quick copy & paste text from the clipboard into our running daily log files (in my case I use my email). I do see the note that "Results" button will be available soon. Why was it dropped? 3. Detailed results are available by clicking on "Share this result" but ONLY on download tests so rather than the prior one click to copy/paste I now have to make 2 clicks. In addition, detailed results are NOT available for the upload test function....at least not that I can find. General comment....I'm happy that the mobile users and in particular the "i-phone" folks love it. However, I'm not a mobile user. And it would seem reasonable to have left the features that were working fine for others of us alone. This said, I'm going to do everything I can to return to the 12.9 version per the instructions stated. Finally, as a retired long time (30+ years) IT professional, it would seem to me that rather than just springing this new version on us all as the DEFAULT, the new version be made available as a "Beta" to allow folks who wanted to test/evaluate to do so without impinging on the stable baseline version immediately? I appreciate very much your efforts to make this fine (best on the net) better, but respectfully disagree with the way that these updates are being done. Thank you, jerry in tx.
  14. Hi CA3LE, thanks very much for your prompt response that clears up what was a mystery to me (should've figured it out for myself, duh!)...and for all you & your fine website does for us! I'll try to keep this brief. The reason that our (ViaSat/WildBlue/Exede) speeds have increased is that the kids are heading back to school; thus resulting in less traffic on our domain(s) and across the Internet in general. This is the explanation that's been provided us by our ISP during previous summers...that when the kids are out of school playing online games, streaming videos/music, our performance is degraded. Even though our performance was increased dramatically in May when we were cut over to Exede from the old WildBlue, we knew that once school was out we'd see a drop in performance..though not as significant as in past years. But now they're heading back to school, performance is back up. OK, I'm just rattling on here, enough of that! Thanks again for your courtesy, patience, technical knowledge and professionalism. Proud to be a member of this forum and yours is the ONLY "Performance Testing" website that I'll use or recommend to others! Have a great day, very best regards to you & all the fine folks there at TestMY! jerry in TX.
  15. Greetings CA3LE. Any thoughts on why the "Custom" download function is defaulting to "Smartest" even when I select Custom and then a number of mb (12)? It's NBD, just curious....I've noticed this for the last week or so on each daily test I run. Thanks for the BEST speed testing website on the net & for all your fine work.
  16. Mark wrote: try DiskBench its free there are several places you can download it from it doesn't require an installer or anything its pretty basic but gives the features your looking for ~ Mark Thanks very much, Mark. Looks just like what I was looking for! Appreciate your help, very best regards, jerry
  17. Good discussion. On a related note, I'm looking for software that will do a good job of measuring hard drive speeds both in terms of read/write access times, but also transfer times. That is malware/spyware free of course & is either free to use or minimal cost. Any suggestions most appreciated. Thanks.
  18. Very good discussion here, thanks to all. Further, thanks CA3LE for fixing the "Details" button so that the copy to clipboard works correctly once again; kudos to you for all your hard work! I've been missing for a while, had a HD drive crash on Saturday during Memorial Day weekend. Finally back up & running as of this past Friday afternoon. Glad I'd done a recent full drive backup just 2 days prior to the crash! Replaced the dead drive w/a solid state, what a difference in boot & application load times. OK, my 2 cents for a while, thanks again for providing us this great (and most accurate on the net to my knowledge) speed test website. Very best regards, jerry aka "The Old Marine in Texas".
  19. Good morning, same results @ 0648-0651cdt as reported last night. Thanks.
  20. OK, folks...here I am back again. Please understand I'm not trying to be "nit-picky"....but can we PLEASE STABILIZE this website? I just ran another set of tests (beginning @ 2045cdt) and once again, clicking on the "Details" button now does NOT provide the next most recent "Copied to clipboard" result. Rather, clicking on Details simply takes me back to the top of the webpage. Yet the tests I ran @ 1638-1539cdt DID provide such "Copied to clipboard" results. I'm not understanding at all; if I had a problem with my browser (IE8 running under WinXP Pro SP3, current patch level) or security software/firewall (GFI/Sunbelt Vipre Internet Security 2012), I'd think that the problem would be consistent? But it's not. FYI, I'm copying/pasting in following the results of my last two sets of upload/download information from my logs. Plz note the difference in the most recent is due to my manual "copy/paste" of what I see in the small results box in the lower left corner of the page. Following is the content of my logs as stated: Immediately following, Result “Details” button again NO LONGER WORKING as of 2035cdt; was working at 1639cdt!  :::.. 21. Thanks so very much CA3LE, it's back and working fine!!! Great job, I love this website & the fine job that you & the other folks do; indeed I will tell my friends...though most of them already know thanks to our ctesc.net support folks & installers (We're hosted by WildBlue's new "Exede" package). Further, the test I just ran showed a remarkable improvement (2.1mbps up; 17.1mbps down) over tests I'd run earlier today!!! Yippee!! Again, my sincere thanks & very best regards, keep up the great work! The old Marine in Llano County, TX, USA
  22. Thanks both tdawnaz & mudmanc4 for your quick replies. I watched this same anomaly happen day before yesterday (unable to put "Results" on clipboard to copy/paste) in the morning hours (0700-1200). Then it reappeared. Yesterday it was fine, I have the logs that I created. Today it's disappeared again. And unfortunately, "share & export" doesn't do the same thing, it simply provides a set of URL's back to the results....which is not really usable for creating a locally stored log such as I keep. Digressing a bit, I note that my results today in particular are PITIFUL compared to last Monday-Friday. Yesterday wasn't as good results-wise as the weekdays, but still better than I've seen today. Why? I expect that our WildBlue hosting is currently having tons of bandwidth used by kids (out of school for the wknd) playing video games or doing other high bandwidth usage activities. Oh well, it's what it is! I expect that tomorrow will pick back up....and hopefully the "Results" will be back in place to support text copy/paste features. Thanks again, best to you both & to all the fine TestMy.net forum participants!
  23. Great test site; our installers & techs supporting my ISP use it exclusively!! But I have a question...for the past 2 days, I'm no longer able to copy results of my tests to my clipboard!! I've been using this feature to log daily results into a local text file on my system. Please, what's happened to that fine feature? And please, put it back for us, OK? Thanks much, best to all of y'all.
