  1. Well I thought I had 30 days to check it out. The person I bought it from and the install tech both told me I had 30 days to decide to keep it. Well a couple days ago I tried to cancel and they said I was under contract. Several phones call, chats and community post later, it is true, as soon as they install your new Gen4 system you are under a 2 year contract. No trial period for upgrading customers. I believe a new customer gets the 30 day trial. I pray the speed doesn't fall any more then it already has. I get some burst of speed on my test but not what they advertise it to be.
  2. Thanks for the replies. I went ahead and had the system installed. I am happy with it so far. I think I was expecting faster speeds then I am getting but it is faster then my HN7000S and the bill will be about 10 bucks cheaper per month. I have 30 days to get out of contract so I will use that time to make my final decision. Right now I see no reason to get rid of it, especially if it picks up any speed.
  3. I hope that is the correct way to describe it. Although I can not find where it was again I saw a map yesterday evening that showed the beams as they cover different part of the U.S.. I was outside that footprint that is the closest to me. HughesNet tells me I can get service in my area. I tell them that my physical address shows to be outside the footprint. This is for the new Gen4 system. I am scheduled to be installed this afternoon. So my question is can I get service at all? If I can what will be the disadvantages? Thanks to anyone who can help me decide if I should go ahead with this installation or delay it a bit.

  5. Man I feel so lucky. I have had very good luck with my HughesNet system. I am on Horizons1 1410. I have had to get changed before. However for the last few years I have been good to go. Wireless is slowly, very slowly, coming to my area. If it ever gets here I will be changing. I pay $79.99 now per month. Wireless will only be $59.99. The speeds will not be that much slower. 6. I know that everyone does not have a good setup or experience. I however am just fine with my HughesNet. I am getting above the average for DirecPc users. I have the Pro plan. I feel that the people having problems are not persistent enough with HughesNet. I was and got changed to a different transponder about a year ago. I went through the MD BBB. I feel they were a huge help to me. I got the corporate office on the case. I was changed and have been happy ever since. I would not hesitate to go through the same process again. Is if fast? Heck no. It takes months. However the payoff is well worth it. Just keep detailed notes of each call, persons name, call center, and what ever else you can make a note of. ::::::::::.. Webcam address

I recently got a webcam. I want to post the address of my webcam on a forum that I visit. I want the membership to be able to click on a link and be able to see my webcam when I have it on. My question is, how do I find the address of my webcam so I can post the link? If it is not that simple, please provide me with details on how to do this. Thank you.
  9. I wanted to come back and post my speed today. It was not long after my other post that my speed tweaks took effect. Below is my speed today. This test was taken at 4:11pm EST. So that is peak time. I am getting very good results in my opinion. :::.. 12. My Vista computer recognizes my Logitech headset mic. It shows it in my recording device page. However I can not record any audio using Hypercam2. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the program. This combination has worked in the past. I have not used it in about a month or so. Not sure what has happened in that time frame. If I blow into my mic. I can hear it in the earphones. If I set up my mic. through control panel it works. I just can not record using hypercam2. I can hear windows sound in my earphones as well. What could be the issue? Please suggest some things I can troubleshoot to eliminate this problem.
  13. Ok thanks. I will have to see what I can do about a re-point.
  14. I have another question. What do you guys think about tweaking Vista? I am talking about a program such as TCP Optimizer or Cablenut even. Do you use them? If now why? If you do, what program do you use? Do you see results?
  15. I did notice when my installer was here he had a instrument to guide him with the install. I don't remember him having a laptop, although he may have. I still have not found my installers info. That is something I must do. I bet I can get a cheaper price if I contact him instead of Hughesnet. Ah, I have just found it. I have a number written in my notes. I believe it to be the installer cell phone. I am trying to call it now........................Had to leave a message. No idea if it is still the same person with that number. I should know soon though. If not I will have to weasel my way into a re-point for free. heheheeh
  16. I have read where it is not supposed to be that hard. I am just scared to do it. I don't want to mess it up and have nothing. Then I have to tell them that. Who knows what kind of hoops they would make me jump through then. I appreciate the advise, actually it have been several years. Most likely 3 or 4 years since my dish has been touched. I have a signal of 58 hitting Horizons1. It was not much better than that when they pointed it.
  17. Thanks for the advise grandpa. I will have to see if I can find my installer paperwork and see if I can get in contact with him. I think I will let things settle in for a few more days before I do anything. Here goes another test. Lets see what I get now................................. Looks like I took a nose dive. This test was done at 5pm EST. ::::::::::.. testmy.net test results ..:::::::::: Download Connection is:: 678 Kbps about 0.68 Mbps (tested with 748 kB) Download Speed is:: 83 kB/s Upload Connection is:: 157 Kbps about 0.2 Mbps (tested with 386 kB) Upload Speed is:: 19 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net (Main) Test Time:: 2008/03/27 - 3:01pm D-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-S3L4MNVGX U-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-0HTDIBU1O Here is what the test at Hughesnet shows. 18. I have not touched my dish in years now. I suppose a re-alignment would be a good idea. I have no idea how to do it myself and will not even attempt it. So does anyone have a tip on how to get Hughes to do a re-point for me? I do have the insurance on my system, if that means anything.
  19. granpa, I did not change transponders. All I did was un-hook the DW6000 and plug in the HN7000s. It looks like my system my be stabilizing a bit. Here is the latest test. :::.. testmy.net test results ..::: Download Connection is:: 1003 Kbps about 1 Mbps (tested with 1013 kB) Download Speed is:: 122 kB/s Upload Connection is:: 161 Kbps about 0.2 Mbps (tested with 386 kB) Upload Speed is:: 20 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net (Main) Test Time:: 2008/03/27 - 11:17am D-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-TJXY1GPA2 U-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-8GQD10I34 User Agent:: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.8.1.13) Gecko/20080311 Firefox/2.0.0.13 [!] Those results I can surely live with. Especially since this test was done at 1:15 EST. Somewhat peak time, I believe.
  20. Both computers are now connected and working fine.
  21. Okay, I am totally open to suggestions. Hughesnet has told me to do 2-3 speed test in each of the following times, morning, afternoon, and evening. I have to do them for 2 or 3 days. Then I suppose I will be offered to switch to a different transponder. I want to avoid that. What can I do now to increase my speed? Come on my fellow members. I know we can do something to increase my speed without going through the hoops that hughesnet suggest.
  22. UPDATE....... Both computers are online. Now I have a major speed issue. Any help?
  23. granpa, indeed I am still having problems. I have tried the ip renew option. Or I should say I believe I have done it correctly. If you would give me step by step instructions on how to do that. The computer in question is running XP. The Vista computer does not have a problem. Let me try to explain how my system is hooked up. HN7000S goes to a hub or switch. It has a input from the 7000 and then 2 Ethernet cables come out to each computer. Now there is one strange thing. When I ask Vista to map my network it shows(see attachment). So maybe it is a configuration issue? I have tried to attach the screen shots. I have not been successful. I will try to post separately.
  24. Yes indeed I was Tommie. I have no idea what has happened. I have a fresh install of Vista right now without any tweaks at all except for Firefox tweaks.
