  1. Unfortunately I do live with it, but I shouldn't have to. If this is a problem with HughesNets equipment, such as old satellites that can't handle the bandwidth anymore, why should I live with it. If HughesNet was a reputable company they would fix the problem at their cost instead of telling customers there is something wrong with your equipment and we must send a technician to your house at a base cost of $125.00. I've been reading a lot of stuff about new satellites and HN9000 modems that improve the service. I don't know if this information is correct but, if HughesNet were reputable they would inform their current customers and offer to send out a tech to replace/fix the problem at no charge. After all I have paid them $959.88 per year for the past 3.5 years and will continue to pay them if they fix the problem. It's the customers acceptance of substandard service that allows corporations to get away with this crap. Well I'm not one of those customers.

I feel your pain and agree with you 100%. I thought the same thing for the few years I was on it. Customers are paying an arm and a leg and should get what they're paying for with the Hughesnet service.

  2. Funny how I thought pretty much the opposite

In unrelated thoughts, Bird Fan, I listened to your quoted song this morning, and the intro is indeed the best part. Still, 10 000 days remains the best album imho

edit: I just read that the "RrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrEAL fucking high on drugs" quote is also from Bill Hicks

Third Eye is a great song and Bill Hicks was a great comedian.

The live version on the Salival cd is almost better.

However, 10,000 Days is the best? It's different. I like Lateralus a lot more, but each album is different so it's all about taste.

Sorry for the off topic discussion... lol

  3. On the windows computer have you try cablenut or TCP Optimizer? Also how far down the line are you from the DSL hub? Have you try the speed tests early in the morning or late at night [off peak hours] they may have overloaded the line.

edit- I can not set it on my wireless laptop either.

I'm sure we're pretty far out. We're about 10 miles from town.

I have tried Cablenut in the past and have it set on my wireless laptop which gets around the same speeds.

When school starts back up I'll do some 6 AM speed tests.

  4. I'm on a 3/512 package with SBC Global Yahoo DSL

Upload is decent but download is still a little slower than what I should be getting...

  5. The stuff about gaming was just side stuff. If u notice i said that since u could buy a pc laptop with out a video card it would be even cheaper. I like macs and all and owned one for a long period of time but like itunes for u, macs just "aren't my cup of tea," but i just saw ur budget was $1,000 and the toshiba's u showed us were around $800 and i knew u couldnt get a mac for that so what else do u expect me to recommend. If you got money like that, the mac isn't a bad choice at all, i'm sure u will be happy with it. Profanity was uncalled for.

    Safari... I like iTunes.

That's beside the point, I'm not buying a Mac because of the Apple software bundled with it. The easiest way to explain it would be: I'm jumping on the bandwagon. Sue me.

It wasn't really a budget per say. Much more like a goal.

I'll choose a different word next time.

And I italicized word because that's just what it was. but that's a different argument.

  6. yeah like all the games right....

and unless u are in graphic editing, theres no reason to run mac apps cus everyone knows safari and itunes suck. ichat is pretty good tho.

To help your argument, why not list the games that don't work? Good idea hmm?

Safari isn't my cup of tea, but I like iTunes.

I'll be using Adium instead of iChat, most likely.

  7. a 15 inch mac starts at about $2,000, over twice your budget. Look at the stats in my sig, i got that for $1,100.

    That was my original budget.

But since it's the last computer my parents will ever buy for me, I went ahead and made sure I could squeeze out as much as I could.

Again, I don't play games so what advantage does Windows being able to play more games?

Why do I give a fuck about that?

And I do plenty of editing in Photoshop.

    I have a Dell. It was $1000.

Hard drive died after half a year.

    Screen broke.

Now the hinges have fallen apart and the backlight has shut off.

I'm not buying another Dell, period.

My brother's $1700 Dell has done the same thing (hinges).

    And Vista..... sucks.

so why would I stick with XP when I want to upgrade?

  8. It depends where I am. at home, i prefer glossy, And for most things glossy is better because colors look better At work i prefer matte because i don't want all of the overhead lights reflecting on my screen.

I see. I'll be using it mostly at home.

I've read that while glare is a problem, glossy is better when outdoors.

Also, apparently glossy causes more strain on the eyes? But whenever my eyes get strained, I realize I've wasted too much time on the computer.
