Time Warner Sucks

Hello guys im back, I moved to a new house and I wanted to show u what I have to go through, I moved about 5 blocks from Time Warner's headquarters and its gonna take them a week to reinstall my service can u believe it? What sucks is that I am an existing member and i live so close to them and its going to take them a week to come to my house and set everything up again x

whoa wait why are you making them come to ur house?

wen i got roadrunner, i just went and got the kit from them and installed myself, and then i just had to call them and they sent some sort of signal to bring my modem to life

took like 15 mins

I already had cable internet in my other house, Earthlink, and now that I moved they said they have to come to this house and give me cable again, what doesnt make sense is that I already have a digital box and their cable modem, so why cant they just send a signal to my house from their headquarters (which is 5 blocks away) instead and not this crap that I have to wait a week for them to come and give me my service.

Closeness doesn't weigh as heavily on Cable as it does DSL. He should see about the same speeds.

ahh but your wrong....yes.....dsl needs closer to source....BUT, the farther you are away from the main hop, the more hops you have to go through to get to your house...

DSL= Dedicated - Your Own Speed

Cable= Bus Topology - Shared w/neighbors on 1 router.

Being that as it may, unluss he was an insane amount of hops away, it shouldn't be that different.

Is Earthlink under TimeWarner, or is it a different ISP?

AOL broadband - comcast - RR- earthlink - internet junction - light speed - and a few others i cant think of all use the same backbones/ lines. Their policies are different, but their all the same 'highway' .

And no.. just because he lives closer doesnt mean hell get better speeds. Mabey a shorter hop.. but not noticable speed increase because of the cap. (most likely)

Yeah, in my area Earthlink is under Time Warner, but they also use Comcast and other companies, and I dont know if ill get faster speeds since im so much closer, that will be cool but not likely to happen since I have cable and not dsl. I'll just have to wait for Tuesday to see what happens. Only thing I can say right now is at least I can use Earthlink's dial up service for now, so I have some sort of internet, though dial up sucks, its better than nothing.
