Well... another night and another complaint into support.

I e-mailed one in after work, when at 4:45, down was already below 500.

Here is the results of my labor for this evening...

January 5th, 08:48PM - 196/131 kbps

January 5th, 08:35PM - 104/15 kbps

January 5th, 08:30PM - 110/171 kbps

January 5th, 08:05PM - 81/105 kbps

January 5th, 08:03PM - 145/114 kbps

January 5th, 05:38PM - 192/143 kbps

January 5th, 05:07PM - 323/178 kbps

January 5th, 04:42PM - 425/191 kbps

So I got pissed and called again. Really don't want to be on the phone with them forever.

Here is a new one I haven't heard...

DWay Tech:  How's the weather there?

Me:  Misting and light snow

DWay Tech: Well there is your problem. The weather is affecting your speeds.

Me: Even when my signal strength is 91?

DWay Tech: Yes. Transmit is the issue. You need that for good speed.

Me: Oh. So my nice 190 Kbps uploads are fast because the weather effects uploads, and my crappy downloads speeds are because of that too?

Dway Tech: Uh. Hang on a second..... According to the weather, it is 22 degrees and snowing there. We can't reliably test in poor weather.

Me: Really? They did last night, and it was only a little warmer.

Dway Tech: Well it really needs to be tested when the weather is clear.

Me: OK. I live in Western New York, near Buffalo. I'll call back in July! (I didn't really say that)  :D

Anyway, they wouldn't go into troubleshooting with me tonight, and I didn't feel like fighting. I will call when the weather clears.

:::.. Download Stats ..:::

Connection is:: 122 Kbps about 0.1 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB)

The email I received from direcway when I complained last night

Dear Curtis,

Thank you for contacting DIRECWAY Technical Support. We appreciate the opportunity to assist you.

I apologize for the inconvenience this issue may have caused.

As I understand from your email, you are facing problem of slow browsing. I see that you are on a professional edition of  DW7000.

Curtis, First of all the concern here is whether you are getting the signal strength more than the minimum in your area.

I would like you to pull up the Internet explorer and put in a web address as 192.168.0.1 and click on system status.

Please look for signal strength, according to area i.e zip code 24520 the minimum should be 52. If the signal strength is  below this please call at our voice support as it seems to be a signal issue.

If the signal strength is higher,Then the speed which can be expect from direcway is any number more than 500 kbps for  download & more than 30 kbps for upload.

Kindly follow the steps below, so that you are able to browse at a good speed:

A. Clear Cache ( IE 4.x & >)

1. Launch Internet Explorer.

2. Select Tools from the menu bar.

For Internet Explorer version 4.x, select View from the menu bar.

3. Select Internet Options.

4. Click the General tab.

5. In the Temporary Internet files section, click Delete Files.

2. From the Menu click Tools and select Internet Options.

3. On the Connections tab, click LAN Settings to open the Local Area Network (LAN) Settings  dialog.

4. Verify that the Automatically detect settings and Use automatic configuration script boxes are NOT checked. If they are  checked, uncheck them now.

5. Mark the check box next to Use a proxy server for your LAN.

6. Click Advanced.

7. Beside the HTTP protocol, enter 192.168.0.1 in the proxy address to use and enter 87 in  the Port.

8. Under exceptions enter systemcontrolcenter.com;192.168.0.1.

9. All other fields should be empty.

10. Make sure that Use same proxy server for all protocols is unchecked and that all other  entries are blank.

11. Click OK.

12. Mark the check box next to Bypass proxy server for local addresses.

13. Click OK to close the Proxy Settings dialog.

14. Click OK to close the Local Area Network (LAN) Settings dialog.

15. Click OK to close the Internet Options.

C. Check HTTP 1.1 settings.

1. Launch Internet Explorer.

2. From the Menu click Tools and select Internet Options.

3. On the advanced tab, scroll down to HTTP 1.1 settings, make sure that the box which says use HTTP 1.1 is checked and the box  which says use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connection is not checked.

4. Click apply & ok.

D.I would recommend you to follow the steps to do powercycle:

1. Unplug the power cord from the DIRECWAY 7000 modem (for at least 30 seconds).

2. Plug the power cord back into the modem (wait for the lights to be steady on the mode).

5.Please download the LCCU_4.0.3.12.exe software, from the site www.mydirecway.com.Incase if you find any difficulty for  downloading the software from this site, you can try the ftp site: ftp://sw.direcpc.com

Please relaunch Internet Explorer and try to browse and run the speed test.

I understand that it has been a consistent issue and if the problem persists, please contact us on the voice technical  support number at 1-866-347-3292 because it can be concern with either the modem or with some advanced settings.

We are providing the information below for your records. Should you need to contact us in the future about this request,  please reference the Request ID : 9015215.

I assure you that by 8p.m. tonight, as the case everynight, they will be under 200kbps and at some point probably under a 100kbps. Your service is great but your inability to handle users during peak hours is getting on a lot of your customers nerves. I have heard talk of people inquiring about wildblue because of this. I would like to know what you are doing to remedy this situation. I hope that this email doesn't get pushed aside by the same level 1 tech support person that i always get when i call that just wants me to restart my modem.

Just so you know, that is the exact same e-mail I have gotten EVERY time I have complained about performance via e-mail. They also close the ticket as soon as they send it.

This morning, I have snow on my dish (a little) which dropped my sig two points (91 to 89).

I will clean it off later, or let it melt. It is supposed to warm up today.

Anyway, a few posts ago I got the nonsense from them about the weather making it unreliable to test...

Here is the proof that a little snow on the dish does nothing to affect performance...

Typical morning speeds... too bad they don't hold. No complaints about thie speed.

Hi,

I know exactly what you Folks are talking about...  I have a 6000 with the same problem.  (The sad thing is that their service was very good up 'til about three weeks ago.)  Then "The Change!"  Speeds were good in the a.m. until about mid morning.  Then the dramatic drop until speeds were about 1/5 what they were.  I, too, emailed, called so-called customer support.  They gave me the basic "canned reply" letter that they send to you guys.  I explained to them that my PCs are clean and config'd. properly.  Prob. isn't with me; prob. is with them, that they've oversubscribed available bandwidth.  Besides, if it's my PC, then why is my speed so dependent on the time of day that I use the Internet?

I really liked D'way, up until recently, but I'm seriously considering changing to a service that gives me what I pay for....  But first I'm definitely going to ask for Level 3 support (Engineering) when I call next time.  Level 1, in India, and Level 2, in Florida, weren't much help; polite--just not much help!

Very wide spread issue....hopefully they will  soon fix, but don't hold your breath. When you call get a case # and then be persitant that you talk to next level support.  Also you can file a claim with BBB on-line. The more of us who do something just maybe they will spend some money to accommodate the load. They boat about the number of subscribers, but problem is the systems can handle the load of people simultaneously.

Bad thing is nw customers are being pointed every day usinf even more....so as time passes the speeds will continue to drop even slower.

First check your cros pol  - It SHOULD NEVER FAIL - if it is then that is your speed problem. It should be up in th mid 60's to 70's at least - My signal strength is never above 60 and I run pretty good all the time. HOWEVER , I know this sounds crazy but it is true, Direcway seems to throttle down certain sats at certain times of the year.  Anyway check that cros pol that is usually the flux speed problem.  And  did you have a 6000 before the 7000? And if so where your speeds better then or is the 7000 your first modem.
