cruxdagger,

that's because you have a serious problem with your connection. In No way shape or form should hop 1 during a tracert time out as it's the hop from your computer to your modem. If it does to have a very serious hardware issue. I'm amazed you were even able to get to this website with a tracert that bad. Are you sure you have the VIA chipset drivers installed for your onboard NIC? if you aren't sure you can get them at http://www.viaarena.com/Driver/VT6107_VT8231_VT8233_VT8235_VT8237v41FVIA.zip

Try that first then do another tracert please and tests please.

well you should disable the wireless capability of the router and hook all computers wired to the router, also in the NIC settings set it to Auto. As for turning off the wireless, in a browser type the address 192.168.1.1 and login to your router (default password is "admin" BTW), choose wireless and then in th dropdown box for "wireless mode" choose "disabled" then save settings and close the browser, wireless is now disabled.

thats just it its a wired router no wireless capability, i set up the router as soon as i installed it, kinda sad im a+ net+ mcsa and havin these kinda probs is embarrasing, ive ran everything through my roomies puters the both of em and there getting the same speeds could it be my ip is fragged and should be shot or what. im starting to think its the modem its self.i think its a mini "ambit" not too sure first ive seen one like this it just says on the sticker beneth the mac id's trade name=ambit but its about 4"l 4"w .75"h but all of us are timing out first hop to the router just strange. but anyway tnx for the help guys

Cruxdagger, Also make sure you have the most recent VIA hyperion Motherboard drivers. They work hand in hand with your NIC drivers. If all else fails buy a cheap $10 0r $15 PCI NIC card and disable your onboard NIC in the BIOS. I think that's what's causing your problem, as your roomates are connectiing a full speed. and your severe problems with the tracert.
