I have a few questions:

Who is your ISP

What is your advertised up/dw speeds

Are you using any tweaks now like Vanburen's cablenut files

What about firmware are you using a Hyperwrt or linksys firmware:

When is the last time you updated your NIC drivers

Thanks,

compuworm

sorry for the delay.

ISP DWAY

up/dw 1100/190- host; 500/90 wireless

I am using cablenut

I am using linksys firmware (haven't heard of the other)

NIC drivers - never - brand new unit.

Thanks for the reply

You do know that by going wireless you loss about 50% of your bandwidth.  How new is your unit, just because you purchase it yesterday doesn't mean your NIC drivers are out of date.  Whenever I purchase anything new like graphics card the first thing I do is look for new drivers.

Anyway, before you can download hyperwrt firmware to increase your transmit power you really need to know what version of router you have.  Try looking on the bottom of the unit.  What Vanburen ccs file are you currently using to improve your TCP/IP connection?

Further, once I know your version number I will send a link to the firmware that is best for your unit.  Also, do you know the Linksys version of Firmware you are currently using?

Thanks,

compuworm

I just went to linksys and downloaded their latest firmware v. 1.00.4

the bottom of the router states WRT54G v5

Vanburen's "version 7 all win OS and sat". I used MTU 1500? wasn't sure about that one.

Not exactly sure what a NIC driver is.

Thanks

Keep testing. And do it from different parts of your house where you would have a different signal.

Are you sure that it's any slower? It could just be the peak hour slowdowns. BTW, I get a very high speed burst on my wired computer and almost no speed burst on my wireless. The different speeds that you could be seeing might be due to a speed burst.

Keep running that test, it's more accurate on my wired computer that has the huge speed bursts.
